I don't usually review things but our experience at 1, Forest Cottages totally deserves it.
My wife and I stayed here after spontaneously wanting to go away and to see the New Year in somewhere else. This was a very last minute booking, which we made less than 6 hours prior to arriving. We arrived on 31/12/2015 and stayed for 4 nights.
Upon arrival, we were met by Pam who was very accommodating with our arrival, due to chaotic traffic which delayed our predicted arrival time. She showed us around and pointed out where to park, nearby shops and told us that the welcome binder would give us inspiration as to where to visit.
When we had unpacked and settled in, it became apparent that we'd found a gem of a place. It was like a home from home. Every little minor detail had been catered for, eggs, bread, milk and some lovely shortbread. Everything, and I mean everything was there for us to use. Just picture your own home but in a completely different place. A nice welcome bottle of something to see the new year in was awaiting us too.
We brought our two dogs along with us and found that blankets, towels, water/food bowls and some treats were already there for them. We'll know for next time so we don't have to bring our own supplies with us.
So, after getting suitably toasty with the roaring fire going, food cooked and a few too many glasses of the fizzy stuff, we saw the new year in with a big smile on our faces.
The large super king bed (I think that was the size) was more than big enough for us to starfish in without hitting each other. The bed is incredibly comfortable giving us both a very good nights sleep (and made us change our own bed when we got home!).
When we woke up the next morning, it was then we realised just what surrounded us. Not only was there absolute peace and quiet but there was rolling hillsides to view, sheep in the field behind the cottage gardens and just an amazing place to just sit outside and relax. The garden situated to the rear of the cottage is big enough to enjoy time in the peaceful countryside.
As the booking was last minute, we hadn't had chance to plan what we would do or what we would go and see. Luckily, there is a lot of information inside the cottage that gave us plenty of ideas of where to go. We would highly recommend visiting Lake Vyrnwy and the amazing waterfall at Pistyll Rhaeadr. Both are fantastic places to go and we've captured some great moments during our visit.
We only stayed at the cottage for 4 nights, but in that short space of time we discovered that this idyllic cottage was literally a home from home and everything that you could want, was in it. A very clean and deceptively spacious cottage.
You could spend your day just relaxing inside or you could venture out to the many places within a very short distance of the property.
All in all, probably one of the best places we've stayed in and we will definitely be back.
(My wife has typed this on my behalf, due to a disability I have with my hands and arms, but the views are collectively ours)
