1 The Old Methodist Chapel Family Cottage description

Holiday home
1 The Old Methodist Chapel is a fantastic conversion of a Victorian chapel in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. Over four floor, this property sleeps eight in four bedrooms, a second floor double, a second floor king-size double, a second floor twin and a third floor double. There is also a second floor bathroom, a ground floor shower room, a first floor kitchen with dining area and a first floor sitting room with open fire. Outside there is a patio area, and off road parking for two cars. 1 The Old Methodist Chapel is a unique base for a cottage holiday.

Area
Perfectly positioned for touring both the Moors and the Coast, the picturesque village of Rosedale Abbey is situated in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. Located in Rosedale, a beautiful valley of sweeping hillsides and breathtaking views, this lovely little settlement is surrounded by wonderful moorland countryside and offers walks in every direction. The village is home to the remains of a 12th Century Cistercian Priory - a stone pillar, staircase and sundial are all that remain, which gave the town its unusual name. The village is now largely made up of stone-built cottages clustered around the village green. Packed with local amenities such as shops, tearooms, an art gallery, a glass studio and three old country pubs, there is plenty to do without venturing to nearby Hutton-le-Hole, Ryedale and Kirkbymoorside.

Region
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

Night storage heaters with open fire. Electric range cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, washer/dryer, dishwasher, TV with Freeview, video, DVD, WiFi, payphone. 1 The Old Methodist Chapel is a lovely cottage in a pretty location. Very good value for money and presented beautifully. There were good facilities for all the family including the young children. Renovated to a high standard and was a great place for a fun family get together.

A splendid house, in a splendid location in a super village. Everyone we met were so friendly. To say the house was cosy, clean and comfortable does not begin to do the property justice.

The location was excellent and the accommodation could not have been much better. It was as the owner said when speaking to him - a really five star accommodation.

Great location and views, really warm and comfy beds, a perfect place. We have used Sykes since 2003 and this was the best yet.

The Old Methodist Chapel is a beautiful building, restored to the highest standard. Plenty of room for 4 couples or a large family. Fantastic service given by the owner and some really nice touches, which made our stay even better. Great base to explore the surrounding area, too many great place to name. The North Yorkshire Moors is an area as beautiful as you will find in Britain.

The Chapel was comfortable and homely, with plenty of space for 7 adults. It was nice to have big comfy sofas in the living room, and the beds were great.

It's a place where you can really enjoy the British countryside and particularly Yorkshire. That's what we wanted, so we had a perfect stay and we will recommend it.

The property was fabulous and highly recommended. The scenery and walks were fantastic and very central to much of North Yorkshire. Pickering area is excellent for food/snacks /packed lunches.

The exterior design of the Chapel - a pleasure to come 'home' to each day. High standard of the very stylish furnishing. The welcoming champagne from the owners was a wonderful surprise after a long drive. Maintained absolutely immaculately, full points to the chap who 'does' locally.

The accommodation was superb. It accommodated 8 adults very comfortably. The lounge was exceptionally good. An ideal party space. We would definitely stay at the chapel again and recommend to others.

A lovely cottage situated in a fantastic location - relaxing and peaceful. The cottage was clean and spacious, especially the lounge. We enjoyed the open fire and also loved the oven. Great walks around and a friendly village pub.

We stayed there in August 2012 as a family, six of us, plus a family friend. At the outset, if no one reads any more, not for anyone who is not fully mobile (lots of steps) (or young children, windows open at floor level) and anyone who is not used to reading lots of signs everywhere in the house. We were met with a welcome pack, a bottle of champagne, and a pack of biscuits (elsewhere with Sykes Cottages we have been met with eggs/bread/milk/tea bags etc.,)., and with wood, coal and fire lighters for the open fire. The cooker is nearly an Aga, and electric, which needs to be on 24/7 to be of any use it really does take some getting used to (it does warm the place) although we managed a full Sunday roast meal (meat was brought to the place frozen) and meals most days on a wing and a prayer, once something is boiling on top it is rather hard to simmer it (takes ages to heat up or cool down). The owner is very friendly and chatty when ringing about the key, and to be honest, does try to explain the cooker's good and bad points. The property has been furbished to quite high standards with off peak radiators around the place (and a little worrying torches everywhere for power cuts) and is ideally situated for a never ending number of walks commencing in and around the village of Rosedale Abbey (and not that far from Whitby). The village is a good place to stay and we, as a family, were united in our praise of the village and would return to the place again. The local Abbey Stores (2/3 mins walk) is stocked with everyday essentials but not for foodstocks for a full cooked meal. It was a shame that this modern converted property did not have all its lights working (not the bulbs, clearly a fuse or wiring problem) and that the cooker hood had no fan control (switch long since departed), for the price paid one expects all to be fully functional. On the whole enjoyed our break and laughs about how long the cooked breakfast was taking (or how quick it was). Lots of videos there ..... and before I forget, no mobile signal but 'free' wifi'.

Stayed for 5 days in this beautiful chapel. Plenty of space for 4 generations plus a day visit from the in-laws. Beautiful scenery through every window and walks straight out of the front door. Good food in local pubs and only a 40 minute drive to Whitby for fish and chips! The welcome pack was a lovely surprise and my children especially enjoyed the treasure hunt - especially when we found there was REAL treasure. The owner was most helpful and gave loads of information about both the house and surrounding area. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone and will stay again

Cozy, clean and comfortable do not do this property justice. We had a family holiday with bits of the family coming and going over the week. Plenty of room for up to eight people. Everything and I mean everything you require is in the property. It is set in a splendid situation in a splendid village, everyone was so friendly. This property is well nigh perfect for a family holiday

We had a lovely break at the Old Methodist Chapel. It's been recently refurbished to a very high standard so was a real pleasure to stay in. We visited in November, but the range cooker in the kitchen and the open fire in the large living room ensurered a cosy stay. Comfort and cleanliness really are top notch, although it would get a little crowded if you had someone sleeping in every bed! The property is very well managed, with everything you need there for you on arrival - just make sure you bring plenty of food - it's a long way to the nearest supermarket! Only downside for summer stays is the lack of garden, but Rosedale abbey is so quiet and beautiful it doesn't really matter. Highly recommended.
