2 The Close Countryside Cottage description

Holiday home
This ground floor apartment is situated in a wing of a former Victorian Rectory, located in the small hamlet of Radbourne. Nine miles from the picturesque market town of Ashbourne and positioned within easy reach of the limestone 'White Peak' area, the cottage stands in beautiful lawned grounds, surrounded by fields and neighbouring Radbourne's Parish Church. This elegant and spacious accommodation has been well equipped throughout to offer a relaxing holiday home for up to three people.

Set amidst glorious Derbyshire countryside, the quiet hamlet of Radbourne is composed of working farms, woodland and grassy fields. Boasting an extremely well preserved Norman Parish Church the village also offers many walking and cycling opportunities as well as numerous sites popular amongst birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts. The nearby County town of Derby - the starting point of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site - is only six miles away and offers a wide selection of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as wonderful museums and an excellent art gallery. Slightly further afield is the bustling market town of Ashbourne - sometimes referred to as the southern gateway to the Peak District National Park – which is famous for its annual Shrovetide football match.

The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

We had a wonderful welcome from our friendly hosts and their little dog Finn. They even left a vase of daffodils and a box of home made chocolate brownies. There was a church at the end of the garden and we were lucky enough to be there for a service.

We found the property quiet, spacious clean and warm. The owner was welcoming and keen to make our stay enjoyable. Although in a rural setting which we wanted, there was a handy large Tesco store for all shopping. We found the property ideally situated for visiting various historic National Trust and other sites. The booking process was quick and easy even though we booked at the last minute.

This is the third or fourth time that we have stayed at this property. It is cosy ,comfortable and clean. If you like peaceful, idyllic surroundings and a feeling of getting away from it all, this is the place. It is a great base for exploring the fabulous Derbyshire Dales and yet is only about ten minutes away from Derby City centre.

May 2011
I went to this flat with a friend and we were so impressed with the kindness and courtesy of the owner of the flat. The flat exceeded our expectations and we very much enjoyed the relaxing ambiance of the property and it's rural situation. There were some nice touches that made staying there very relaxing. Although the flat itself is part of an old building which means it might be more basic than some are, it was still a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

It is set in a picturesque country location and you have the feeling of being away from it all even though it's situated only five minutes away from Derby city centre.

This is our fourth year in succession at 2 The Close as we attend a family history gathering in Derbyshire each year. We think that the setting of the apartment is idyllic and it is very comfortable, quiet and secluded. We get on extremely well with the owner, and hope to be back again next year.

We loved the location, it was idyllic and ideally placed to see the whole of the Peak District. We thought the rectory was beautiful and the owner a lovely hostess. There was so much to do in the area that we could have easily done a fortnight.

This was a very relaxing holiday in a beautiful part of the country.
April 2012
We have just had a very relaxing week at The Close. The accommodation is really comfortable and clean and the hosts - Tessa and Bill - are really welcoming and friendly. The Close is ideally situated for trips and I would thoroughly recommend the walk through Dovedale. We also went to Bolsover Castle - worth the time, Bakewell and Eyam. Lovely time despite the mixed weather
February 2016
We stayed visiting family in the East Midlands, from Australia, plus points-position it's around three miles from Derby city centre but you do need a car Tess and Bill are friendly, helpful and very approachable, Tess bales on a weekly basis so expect a cake to welcome you. The accomodation is described appropriately both here and on Sykes Cottages Webpage. Good size, excellent parking. Good position, beautiful views and nice walks if the weathers good. The only negative and the reason for four not five stars is the cottage needs comfy sofas as we stayed over three weeks and the current ones are not comfy to sit on watching TV, also the whole place is needing redecorating it's pretty shabby chic. Having said that it's warm and the beds are comfy, we will definitely stay again next time we're in the area
July 2010
This was a weekend away without the children after a very demanding few months and was a time to reflect and talk. The setting was relaxing, the property met all we could have asked of it and we came away refreshed, invigorated and with clearer minds. It is a beautiful, tranquil spot and the hosts are warm and welcoming. Super
November 2010
flat very nice, and quiete, in the nice country side.very clean and comfortable
August 2011
Upon our arrival we were met by the owner Tessa Moore who showed us our accommodation then made tea for us together with home-made lemon cake. The owner was always on hand in the event of a problem but did not imping on our space. The accommodation was clean and comfortable and ideally situated for the National Trust properties we were planning to visit. The week was extremely pleasant and we have plans to revisit the area next year and will definately try and book with Mrs Moore.
December 2009
The flat is spacious with a lovely kitchen and a good master bedroom. The second bedroom is small, but our teenager was comfortable there. One criticism would be the comfort of the sofas in the lounge area- they weren't at all comfortable for long periods and we resorted to getting the chair out of the bedroom for watching TV. We had some powercuts during our stay as the energy company were working on the cables. The owners were brilliant, they kept us informed and provided us with alternatives when possilbe. All in all a lovely visit with great hospitality from the owners and in an idyllic setting next to the Church. Radbourne is close to so many visitor attractions you would need a fortnight to even scratch the surface. We will definitely return, just looking for an excuse!
