31 Plantation Avenue Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
Set on a high promontory above the Lakeland town of Arnside, this semi detached cottage is a ten minute walk from the pier and amenities of the village. The character of the cottage is enhanced by beautiful African mahogany floors and the hand crafted fixtures and fittings throughout, including 'secret' cupboards and jewellery boxes, offering a unique holiday base. With a woodburner, cast iron bath, a double room and a family room offering a king-size double and single bed, the cottage will suit families, couples or friends looking to explore the region. A spacious garden is the ideal spot for a BBQ, and both the Lakes and the Dales are an easy drive.

Set wonderfully on the southernmost tip of the Lake District, Arnside village lies in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Low limestone hills, marshy plains and deciduous woodland make up the attractive surrounding landscape, forming an ideal and interesting backdrop for a walking or cycling break. Reminders of Arnside's past as a fishing port can be found in the beautiful pier and port area of the village, with wonderful views across the Kent Estuary. To the south of the village, 15th Century Peel Towers, constructed to defend the settlement against marauding Scots, still stand. One mile away, the Leighton Moss RSPB Nature Reserve is a great destination for bird-watchers, nature lovers or simply those looking to relax. The Lake District, Lune Valley, Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland are all within easy driving distance.

Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

Gas central heating with woodburner. Gas range cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, TV, DVD, stereo/CD, radio. Fuel, power & starter pack for woodburner inc. in rent. The cottage was in a quiet location with fabulous views from the upstairs bedroom. We really enjoyed seeing the wildlife close at hand in the garden - birds, squirrels and even deer. Overall the cottage was spacious enough for 3 people. We also liked having the recycling facilities close by (wheelie bins, etc). Overall though we had a really enjoyable stay in this property.

We enjoyed the characterful house with its fine woodwork created by the owner's father. We enjoyed exploring the local countryside and visiting local attractions. One high point was a roe deer coming in the garden in full view of us mid morning one day.

The area was excellent for touring and we enjoyed the peace and quiet even though we were in a village setting. We even had deer in the back garden a couple of nights! Plenty of walks for the dog and the weather was kind to us. We will certainly book with Sykes again!

The house was warm, comfortable and had everything we needed. With the dog, it was a real bonus to have direct access to the woods behind the house. Also having a porch at the front and a rear conservatory was good for drying off the dog and ourselves.

We found the chalet delightful - a real home from home with lovely furnishings and really warm. The garden was lovely to sit out in and ideal for dogs. Arnside was a pretty town with shops and 2 pubs, and ideally placed for exploring the Lakes. We shall certainly rebook this property again.

The location with plenty of walks, starting at the back gate, and near railway station and town. We only used the car once on the whole holiday. Wood burning stove that provided plenty of heat, and enough wood provided at start of holiday to keep us going several days.

We liked the fact that it allowed us to explore a part of the country we had never visited before. Everyone knows about the Lakes but the area around Arnside is lovely. The amount of public footpaths and the related signage were excellent. It was a great place to take a dog on holiday, because we could avoid the dangerous channels and quick sands of the estuary by spending time in the wonderful wooded areas. The location of the house was good - although the hills were a little daunting! It was a very quiet neighbourhood and felt extremely safe.

This cottage was warm and very clean. We could control the heating and the beds were amazingly comfortable. The kitchen was incredibly well equipped and a joy to used. Good shower over the bath. The woodwork on the house is intriguing and certainly unusual. I took my dog and the woods were a great bonus, but the garden is not secure. As we unpacked the car a neighbour found my dog on the road! The real down side is the step up into the house - it is very high and narrow - you have to take it sideways on and carefully every time. This is not a house for anyone disabled, or even a bit wobbly. It is one for grown ups with long legs and good balance!
November 2010
Lovely property, very cosy and clean with big comfy beds. Great enclosed garden for our dog. Furnished beautifully and in a great location for the Lakes and Trough of Bowland. Would definitely return.
November 2010
Located on a quiety but hilly housing estate, the house was ideal because the back garden led onto a public footpath and spinney - ideal for the pet Labrador. The house itself is quirky in that a craftsperson has carved cupboards, built wooden hidey-holes, made skirting boards, flooring and even curtain-rails. It was obviously someone's lifelong work. South Cumbria held many surprises for us - we didn't have to travel far to find wonderful landscapes and walks, much enjoyed by alfie the Lab. We delighted in the pretty village of Cartmel where surely the best sticky toffee pudding in the world is on sale, and Grange on Sands is worth a visit for childhood memories of a typical seaside resort from bygone days. .

August 2010
Lovely cottage situated in a friendly neighbourhood, with fantastic scenic surroundings. Vast amount of leaflets for places to visit. Very clean, comfortable and well set out.
August 2014
We have had holidays in the area of Silverdale and Arnside for many years and love it dearly. Found the cottage to have a great back garden with gate leading to forest walks which was ideal for our dog. A quiet area. You have to be careful with the inside stairs due to them being steep and slippy( no carpet, polished wood). Front doorstep is also high. Felt cottage could have been presented better. Had four broken windows which we informed them of.
October 2011
A simply wonderful and relaxing location. It was a the top of a steep hill but that didn't worry us. The cottage was lovely, comfortable and well equipped. Only negative would be the lack of a proper shower (shower tap on bath). Lots of info on the surrounding area and found lots of places to visit. Arnside is quite but well placed for touring. The local pub grub was very good. All in all we had a great holiday.

The property was very clean, tidy and well presented on arrival. Everything you needed was there, including a small intro pack and a small selection of leaflets. The property was up a step hill, which meant you had a wonderful view out over the fields and the area was extremely quiet and peaceful. The house was compact, but adequate and had all the amenities you required. The stairs up to the bedroom were very steep and slippy at times and the lack of a proper shower facility was at times difficult. There were shops, pubs and cafes within a 2minute drive or a 20 minute walk of the property looking out over a lake/ estuary. It was a great place to tour the lakes from and Windermere was beautiful and places along the lake were great, especially the visitor centre. Overall it was a great place to stay and visit and we would definetly go back.
September 2011

Good peacefull area. Direct access into wood at rear - usefull for dog owners. Good size rooms and well layed out property. Everything provided that you might need. Saw two deer in rear garden during stay. Pity no shower above bath. Driveway might be tight on width if you have a large car. Good access to Arnside and surrounding area.
November 2010
Excellent service, polite and helpful. Prompt in sorting holiday stay. Loved the holiday home. Excellent condition, comfortable and very clean. Lovely gardens. Beds comfortable. Lovely friendly neighbours. Fantastic scenery and views. Not far from local amenities, handy for plenty of destinations. Leaflets and information in cottage. Gave a good picture for the lake district. Liked everything, the only problem was that there were no sockets in the downstairs bedroom! Were pet friendly!
