The Cottage was comfortable and convenient for the sort of activities we were doing; touring about and walking. It gives a feeling of unfussy relaxation but with a number of design features that raise it to a very high standard. The village of Burton-in-Kendal is attractive and well placed between the South Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Morecambe Bay. We were able to take in all the trips we had in mind.

Green Cross Cottage was a lovely place to spend our holiday, we thought that the quality of the furnishings and equipment was excellent, the kitchen and the bathroom were particularly good and the courtyard was lovely for sitting and enjoying the sunshine .

Cosy cottage to return to after a days exploring the region, a simple to use stove fire after a drizzly day makes a snug homely feel. The best shower ever, sympathetically restored by the current owner to maintain some character from its varied and rustic past with a contemporary input. The beds were very comfortable, money spent on quality mattresses. The Kings Arms pub in the village serving good food with a friendly atmosphere, meant no more driving needed at the end of the day so we could both relax with a beer/wine. A visit to the village of Kirby Lonsdale worthwhile for scenery and shops, also to The Ingleton Caves (Third of a mile walk into the cave, Guided Tour) and a lovely nature trail walk to the cave too, this was recommended to us by the friendly locals in the The Kings Arms pub as it is not well advertised. A good open farm with a good play barn and some independent shops (Greenfields) a very short drive down the road for the children to visit, handy to burn some energy off before a long drive home. Cannot praise this holiday enough......and we were unlucky in that it rained a little/a lot most days......so that's a got to be a compliment as the weather did not spoil the holiday at all.

We were the first people to stay at this cottage. Everything was brand new and very tasteful. A particularly nice touch were the white fluffy bathrobes and slippers. The location is good for traveling around and the fantastic weather was a great bonus!

Second booking with Sykes and again we were delighted with the standard of accommodation. Excellent base for visiting the area with good motorway link nearby. The cottage looks uninviting from outside but was fabulous once you crossed the threshold. Towels were changed midweek which was excellent service and unusual. Owners came round to check everything was okay which was thoughtful and in no way intrusive. We shall rebook this cottage again.

We chose to stay at 4 Green Cross Cottage because it was listed as pet friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay (as did the dogs). The village has some nice areas for walks with the dogs and the owner was friendly, welcoming and polite. We will definitely be back again as we will be making this our regular holiday destination.

this was a truly stunning holiday cottage and we've stayed in lots over the years with our dogs (old and new) and this is by far the best. Situated in a lovely village with very friendly people and lots of new places for us to visit, we particularly liked the narrow streets and atmosphere of Kirkby lonsdale with its lovely river walk. The cottage was stylish, comfortable with everything you would need and the owners were friendly and helpful, I would definitely go again. This was my first experience of booking through sykes cottages, it was quick and easy.

We had a very comfortable and relaxing week at 4 Green Cross Cottage which has been renovated in very recent years. The furnishings / equipment were all of good quality, the kitchen had everything you might need, the large bathroom was excellent having a huge bath and a wonderful double size shower cubicle. We enjoyed sitting in the sunshine in the lovely enclosed courtyard which was also good for the dogs. Burton in Kendal is a gorgeous area, there is a good walk along the nearby canal (walkable distance away) and lots of villages or towns to visit (short driving distances)............ Kirkby Lonsdale 7 miles, Kendal 12 miles, Windermere and Bowness approx 17 miles and Grange is well worth a visit. WiFi was available and worked perfectly for us. The Kings Head in the village is welcoming, serves good food, a good pint (I'm told!) child and dog friendly, and there is a village shop/post office and butchers. Unfortunately there is no parking for Green Cross, you have to leave your car in the lane.

My wife and I stayed at Green Cross Cottage the end of Sepember 2011, I have to say we enjoyed it very much, having travelled all over the UK and stayed in many very nice places this was home from home, very clean and impressively tidy, the little touches went down well, bathrobes and slippers. The village was lovely, the local butchers supplied us with the freshest produce. We had the best of weather the whole week, travelling around was no problem at all. On closing I would recommend this cottage very highly, we hope to return again and again.

My Wife and I took our first every holiday with our two children, aged 8 months and 2 years. The cottage is wonderfully child friendly and very comfortable. The washing machine and tumble dryer were certainly life savers when our little ones got a little messy! Very well decorated and with all of the technology we could need, the cottage is a brilliant location to explore the lakes. The owner lives close by and was very friendly and helpful (my 2 year old even demanded a cuddle!). For days that aren't blessed with good weather, there's a farm centre a few miles down the road with a Kids play centre that my 2 year old loved, and when the weather is nice the scenery is spectacular. There's a Tesco supermarket in Carnforth. There's a Booths Supermarket in Carnforth and another in Milnthorpe (living in the South, Booths Supermarkets were new to us, and they're great). All in all, we had a great time. This is a lovely place to stay, and we cannot recommend it highly enough.

the owner lived next door and met us as we got the key he told us the basics and set the heating to our requirments, the cottage was well appointed and in very good order, being very central for the lakes and lancaster, the village pub did great meals, and there where walks on the doorstep, when of the best cottages we have ever stayed in. Our only little gripe was the heating of the bathroom was poor, and the duvet was a little thin for a cold October, lighting in the living room poor for reading, no Wi-Fi.

This was an excellent find. The cottage was a perfect example of a sympathetic modernisation. The location was handy as a base to explore and if I have the opportunity I wouldnt hesitate to revisit.

Very well fitted out and comfortable with just about everything you might want provided. The cottage is pet friendly, but only has a small courtyard type area to the front. There are nice walks nearby though. Dogs not in bedrooms and furniture is understandable, just glad I brought a stairgate with me though.

This one one of the best cottages we have stayed in in England. We often struggle to find a decent cottage that accepts our two medium sized dogs and those that do, we normally find in a slightly tired decorative condition. This cottage was the exact opposite! The owners were more than willing to accept our dogs and the cottage was very pet-friendly with an enclosed garden. The decor was immaculate and everything felt new and fresh. We thoroughly enjoyed our short break here and would return without hesitation, were we to find ourselves back in the south Lakes area.

the cottage was excellent, clean, cosy, everything you would want,i liked how they came round to explain about the heating and the fact that they came to change the towels half way through the week, there was`nt a lot in the local area but a good location for getting out and about, would definetley recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet relaxing holiday, thinking of going back next year.
