Although it is no longer an island the village of Isle of Whithorn still retains the name as a link to its historic past. The village lies by the harbour on the southern tip of the Machars Peninsula, and the area has been designated as an outstanding conservation area. The village has a rich history, and trading from the port dates back to Viking times and there are the remains of a 13th century chapel at the end of the harbour. This region is steeped in ancient and modern history and there are countless sites of historical interest to visit, from Iron Age and Mesolithic Forts to standing stones. This area is a fascinating region and makes a great base for a family holiday.

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

8 Ninian's Landing is an absolute delight and I felt at home from the moment I arrived. This property is a haven of peace and tranquillity with beautiful views over the harbour from the kitchen and lounge windows. For me, 8 Ninian's Landing is the perfect place to get away from it all and totally unwind. Highly recommended!

A superb location overlooking the harbour with a good pub right next door - what more could you ask for? We came with our dog and there were interesting walks all within a short distance. The village was quiet and friendly. The accommodation was of a high standard and we thoroughly enjoyed staying there for a week. We miss the sound of the Oystercatchers in the evening!

The accommodation was absolutely perfect, we couldn't have asked for better. So many things were there for our use, it's impossible to list them all. It was beautifully situated with views of the sea/harbour very close by. We loved it all!

It's always a relief to find the accommodation one has booked is O.k, however, the cottage exceeded our expectations in spades. Everything had been thought of and we appreciated there being no keep off signs anywhere, just a folder explaining all one needed to know.

This is the first time we have been to the Isle of Whithorn and it wont be our last what a lovely little fishing village.8 Ninian's Landing was lovely, comfortable and very clean with views that were picturesque. The owner was very helpful. The village pub was only 2 minutes away which was very handy for both meals or just a drink. It was an ideal base to see neighbouring villages.

It was simply furnished with everything you could possibly want. The views from the windows are spectacular and always catches the eye and stops you in your tracks. The arrangements were very slick with plenty of communication with the owners. The one pub on the Island was very friendly and served great food. All in all we were extremely happy.

Loved the view from the window straight onto harbour. Coastal walk beautiful in both directions. The headland behind the flat is fantastic, I saw a Seal, a Porpoise, a Gannet and other sea birds. Lovely cosy flat. Good pub too.

The flat was the best equipped we have ever booked, the owners provided many extras. The Isle of Whithorn was a great getaway, a really relaxing break the locals made you very welcome. A beautiful unspoilt part of Scotland where we hadn't visited before but will surely return to in the future.

We love the Isle of Whithorn and the surrounding area. The people are friendly and it has it's own micro-climate. The apartment is ideal for us with our small dog. This was our third visit to the apartment and our fifth to the Isle.
August 2014
If u want hustle and bustle, go somewhere else, this place is so laid back it is heaven, we took our dog, and everywere she was welcome, only drawback is the travel to places and back.
September 2016
Thank you very much Mr & Mrs Edgar your apartment is absolutely lovely. From walking through the door my partner and i felt at home, even my dog took to it, and that's not easy. The welcome pack was fantastic for all three of us. Very modern and very comfortable. A perfect place in a lovely part in Scotland. We have stayed in many holiday rentals with Sykes before but I have to say this is the nicest. Everything you need and more. Pull up the blinds in the morning you get a lovely view of the harbour, and before you pull them down at night you get a fantastic view of the sun setting. A perfect spot for venturing further. We hope to return soon.

Close to the sea and a great, little field for the dog. Apartment is lovely, modern and comfortable.
January 2014
We have stayed at 8 Ninian's Landing on four occasions over the last year and are due to go again in March 2014. The apartment is absolutely ideal for a couple with a dog. It is very well furnished, very well equipped and the welcome pack is gratefully received. The area is idyllic, with a lovely walk around the Cairn, and walks through woodlands and beaches very close by. A visit to Garlieston is a must, along with a visit to auchenmalg. Although the apartment is situated next to the pub, there is no noise from late night revellers. Dogs are very welcome in the Steam Packet, where the food is excellent and a warm welcome awaits. Roll on March.
December 2012
This is a lovely apartment. Fantastic views of harbour from the kitchen/diner windows and can see lots of birds at low and high tides. Very well presented inside. Steps up from courtyard lead to great area for a dog. Hosts have thought of everything!
August 2013
Super week in a very comfortable, clean apartment with a fantastic view of the harbour. The owners were very friendly and helpful and provided a lovely welcome pack to get the holiday off to a great start. The area is beautiful and perfect for walking, bird watching, painting and generally relaxing and watching the world go by. The flat is well equipped and has everything you might need, including parking. The pub is very popular so I recommend booking if you want to eat there.
October 2013
A Real welcome... and welcome pack! awaited us at 8 ninians landing isle of whithorn.Spotlessly clean and even treats for the dog. Looking out over the harbour, we were fascinated to watch fishing boats and children learning to sail. It was perfect in every way. the Pub next door was an added bonus... excellent food. We will stay again.
September 2012
This flat is beautifully placed on the harbour at Whithorn and we loved bird watching from the window, spotting all sorts of waders whilst enjoying our breakfast. The owners of the flat have pulled out all of the stops with a beautifully decorated and extremely well equipped rental. It instantly felt like home, with a soft comfy sofa, lovely cushions and rugs. The welcome pack was also very thoughtful and enabled us to start our holiday asap. The flat has private parking, which we think is really important. The foyer part of the building had a wonderful nautical theme, which we loved, especially the diving boots and equipment and the barometers etc on the walls. Back to the flat, as a young-ish couple, we felt it provided everything we needed, with everything being easy to use. At night, despite being next door but one to the pub, it was quiet and peaceful, enabling us to have a good nights sleep in the wonderfully comfortable bed. A great place to rent in a beautiful spot
