Ainthorpe Farm Cottage description

Holiday home
Ainthorpe Farm Cottage is a stone built cottage, attached to the owners' farmhouse, in the village of Danby, within the North York Moors National Park. This cottage sleeps six people and comprises of three bedrooms one double bedroom and two twin bedrooms as well as a family bathroom. The cottage also contains a well equipped kitchen with a dining area and a sitting room with an open fire and French doors that lead out to a cobbled courtyard. This cottage also has off road parking for two cars. Located close to many places of interest and stunning countryside, Ainthorpe Farm Cottage is an ideal family holiday cottage.

Nestled in the beautiful and peaceful Esk Valley in the heart of The North York Moors, the little village of Danby has a lot to offer. With two pubs – both of which serve food - a bakery and a tea-room, this quaint little settlement is well served by local amenities. Nearby is the excellent National Park Visitor Centre at Danby Lodge, a historic building set within 13 acres of riverside pasture. The lodge also provides facilities for local exhibitions, nature trails and tea rooms. In addition there are also the ruins of a 14th Century castle and one of the only working water-mills on the River Esk. Running through the village on its way to Whitby is the Esk Valley Railway, whilst nearby the villages of Hutton-le-Hole and Lastingham, as well as the market town of Pickering, offer a variety of amenities not available in Danby itself.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

Ainthorpe Farm Cottage is a lovely, spacious, well-appointed character cottage. We found it to be spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. There were lovely views from the windows, and a great village location. The owner was very informative and helpful. I would highly recommend this cottage.

An excellent cottage and well equipped. In a lovely village with wonderful walks directly from the door and surrounded by beautiful countryside. Lovely outside seating areas, one in courtyard at rear of property was a sun trap where I spent many a happy hour chilling out with a glass of red and a good book. A very friendly and welcoming owner who went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. We will be definitely be recommending this cottage to friends and family. We all loved it.

The location was perfect for the type of holiday we wanted. There were walks for the dog on the moors themselves but the beach at Runswick Bay proved popular. Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Flamingoland were a short drive away. The cottage owner was very nice.

It was lovely and spacious and the range of kitchen implements was very good for a self catering property. The owners were very thoughtful, like tea and biscuits, milk and sugar which had been provided - a very nice touch. Wonderful views from the property.

December 2004
Lovely cosy cottage in a very peaceful location. Owner has ponies, which the children can feed. Very centrally located for all tourist attractions, Whitby, Pickering and the North Yorkshire moors, Including N Y Moors Railway and Goathland (Where Heartbeat is filmed). Runswick Bay has a great beach, all in all a lovely area, both for countryside and beaches. Local pub family friendly (Fox and Hounds)with good food and log fires. Also recommend the Crown in Hutton - le Hole. Mobile phones don't work in the cottage or village so total peace is possible! We went with a 3 month old baby and the cottage had everything we needed. We would return.
Mr Baker
January 2005

December 2004
Really comfortable cottage, the welcome pack that was left for us was superb. Very friendly two pubs easy to walk to and both sell good food. Beautiful village, fantastic bakery, hope to see it when its green as it snowed the week we were there but still a lovely holiday walking the moors.
Mr Ball
December 2004
The cottage was generally excellent and VERY well kitted out (tea/coffee/bread/milk etc on arrival, hand soap in bathrooms, wood/coal for fires, videos and games). I particularly liked the open fire in the large, comfortable sitting room. The children liked seeing the horse in the courtyard.
Mr Maher

December 2004
If you want to 'get away' from it all then this is the place for you. An excellent base for walking and cycling - the moors to coast route is excellent, the children loved it. The cottage owners were very helpful and welcoming and were more than happy for the children to spend time with their ponies. There is a good pub locally with a great family room and excellent beer. I must also recommend the Downe Arms at Castleton for superb food and hospitality. The children loved Helmsly Castle and the beach at Whitby.
Mr Mrs Barnes
December 2004
This was a holiday where two couples (each with an under 2 toddler) were able to relax knowing that the environment could not have been safer for the children. Every effort had been made by the owners to make our stay comfortable - even the loan of a double buggy! The cottage is ideally situated - a short climb up to the hill to an excellent pub with good food. The garden was enormous, and again, very safe for little ones.
Mrs Thornber
December 2004
A good welcome pack was provided. Good facilities in the village - even in November.
Mr Aspinall
December 2004
Owner very helpful, arrival touches (eg. milk, eggs etc), showed owners cared.
March 2011
A warm, cosy cottage with friendly owners. Lovely break would definatly stay again!
August 2011
Cottage was lovely, owner friendly and approachable but not overbearing. Great to have some outside space and the ponies on the Sunday morning were a bonus! Very calming area and well placed for the moors. Lovely garden, would be great for children and/or dogs. Well equipped kitchen but it would have been nice to have some salt and pepper and some foil, its the sort of thing you forget to buy/take, and we would have used some foil in the oven/grill to keep it clean. We cleaned up after ourselves, but I know some people dont... Otherwise, overall, absolutely excellent
December 2012
Welcoming and friendly. Superbly presented, well equipped cosy cottage. Open fire in lounge was very welcome due to severe weather at time of our visit. Big safe garden for dogs or children. Idylic village location with lots to see and do nearby. We particularly liked sitting in the window seat in the morning sunshine looking on to the beautiful courtyard and stable area. Would certainly recommend this cottage.
Mrs Pat Miles
September 2010

From the 'word go' we found that the anticipation of our needs was excelent. The cottage was perfectly clean and well maintained. The food parcel provided was of the highest quality. The dining area looked out on to the main interior cobbled yard and what a treat to watch a Blacksmith at work before setting out for the day in ideal countryside. The cottage was well furnished, everything worked and all the comforts were there. The beds were comforable and there was more than enough room for our clothes etc. All in all, I would say that this was the best cottage we have stayed in when everything was taken into account. Please pass on our heartfelt thanks for a wonderful week to the owners from the three of us. Glyn Durrance
