Amblers' Rest Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
This cosy terraced cottage is only a moment from the sea in the bustling fishing port of Amble. The property has bright, airy and spacious accommodation. There are three comfortable bedrooms and a well equipped and designed kitchen. The sitting room and dining room both have gas fires, which give instant warmth and a cosy glow to relax by in the evening after a busy day exploring the glorious scenery. Outside there is an enclosed courtyard with garden furniture and a barbecue area. The cottage sleeps five people comfortably and is tastefully decorated throughout. The property is well placed to take advantage of the varied attractions and activities this beautiful county has to offer and makes a great base for year round holidays or short breaks.

Amble-by-the-Sea is a thriving little seaport at the mouth of the River Coquet and was known as a centre for boat building. It has a new marina, coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley and miles of sandy beaches, perfect for a beach holiday. The busy harbour lands a large variety of fish and shellfish, all of which can be bought at the harbour fish shop. Terns, puffins and eider ducks can be viewed at the RSPB sanctuary on Coquet Island about a mile south of Amble. Alnmouth and Craster are both delightful coastal villages and are only a short drive away as are the many sandy beaches in the area. The National Trust has the properties of Wallington Hall and Cragside near to hand and Warkworth Castle and Alnwick castle, with its award winning gardens, are well worth a visit.

Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian's Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.

Gas central heating with gas fires in sitting and dining rooms. Gas cooker, gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, TV, DVD player, radio, stereo/CD player. All fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Cot and highchair on request. Enclosed courtyard with furniture and BBQ. Roadside parking. Two well-behaved dogs welcome. The house is very well located both within the village for access to beaches, harbour and shops but also in the county for access to other towns, villages and attractions. The house was everything we wished for and with the years best weather so far, made it truly memorable.

Good location in order to be able explore Northumberland. Location to Amble was excellent. 2 mins walk to shops, tourist info' and Town Square. Would definitely recommend the Puffin cruises which are run by a local chap from Amble. His enthusiasm is great and the kids loved it.

The location in Amble was perfect. The whole area was very dog friendly with everyone spending time to chat about their dogs with us. Some of the most beautiful beaches we've had the pleasure of seeing. Some terrific eating places particularly in Warkworth. The whole county is a hidden gem with something for everyone. The cottage was immaculately clean and tidy and very welcoming.

April 2011
A lovely and spacious house with all the modern amenities. Located in the heart of Amble, shops, restaurants, and the harbour were literally a stone's throw away. Good dog-walking areas (1 minute away) behind marina as well as along Amble's small beaches. Access to much larger dog friendly beaches along the coast in Warkworth and Alnmouth also quite easy. We had a wonderful time!
Miss Congreve

We were delighted with Amblers Rest as it was perfect. We were so close to Alnwick and its beautiful gardens. The Tudor Trail at Warkworth Castle was loved by the whole family. We were close enough to the beach for some rock pooling for our young son. An excellent weeks holiday.

March 2009
The house is just amazing - the owner has obviously taken a lot of care when preparing the house for visitors. There was even a pint of milk in the fridge on arrival as well as the goodies (tea coffee packets of mini biscuits!!!) The welcome could not have been warmer.
September 2015
We enjoyed a week at Amblers Rest (6 days in fact, due to a confusion over start day). Amble is a great base for a holiday offering decent amenities and the ability to strike out in many directions. Unfortunately, my wife broke her ankle on day 2, which somewhat limited our options - that said, the ground floor apartment couldn't have been handier. Also, we were able to experience the warmth and professionalism of staff at the relatively nearby Ashington and Cramlington hospitals. Overall, I'd describe the apartment as clean, adequate and well located. We have stayed in smarter places but these generally don't welcome dogs! The backyard offered a pleasant sun trap for the invalid and servant. Perhaps the one negative was the lack of a washing machine.
October 2013
The service was very good and it was nice to be welcomed tere. The property was well appointed and very spacious, there were 5 of us of 3 generations and it was good for all of us. The location was great for going to visit other places of interest and the town we liked very much especially a little cafe we found. We liked the people the house and walking by the marina. The thing we did not like was the concrete yard, we would not have wanted to sit outside as the dustbins were in in the space.
January 2013
A perfect base to explore this beautiful area of Britain. The cottage was a true delight...and so spacious! It was clean, warm and there was plenty of hot water. The dog loved it too...we didn't want to leave.
November 2012
Ambler's Rest is a beautiful comfortable well equipped house, perfect for a holiday. Very close to all amble has to offer (Sunday market fantastic), coast, shops etc and near enough to ther local attractions and Newcastle!
September 2011
A clean and well furnished holiday let, with a very helpful owner. The house needed some minor improvements, but is more than adequate for a family. You may need to take additional cooking equipment if you plan to eat in.
December 2011
Excellent location, right next to the bustling harbour and beach. Perfect for dogs and children.
September 2012
What a lovely place, just needs a newer bigger fridge. basic cleaning products and a vacuum cleaner.a tardis like property which with minor improvement could go from 3* to 4/5*
September 2012
On arrival, we were a little disconcerted to find absolutely no toilet rolls! But that is the only criticism I can make. The house is large and comfortable and was spotlessly clean; we'd very happily have spent longer than a week there. There is a good chippie a short walk away (Harbour Fish Bar in Broomhill St.) the high street shops are handy and the town is attractive and interesting. Warkworth Castle, which easily merits more than one visit, is only a few minutes drive away. The location is about as good as you'll find for getting up and down Northumberland. All in all, highly recommended.
April 2010
This was an immaculate cottage, we were delighted with our stay in Amble, we received an excellent welcome from the owner, the cottage was like a tardis and had a small enclosed back garden. We found the people of Amble very friendly. This cottage is approx 8 miles from Alnwick with its castle (made famous by Harry Potter) and fabulous gardens, also Barter Books - a must to visit, we found the coast had rockpools fabulous for our younger child. Warkworth castle in the next village they had a historical hunt which the children loved - and for us, close to our son and family based with the RAF. A lovely base for any holiday, we will be going back.
December 2009
an ideal for dogs straight onto the beach, Everything was in the house, the owner very helpful. People very friendly, we would go back next year.Fish and chips , great!!
