The cottage is an ideal base to explore the area being so close to the A1 not that you could hear the traffic. We had a long weekend at the cottage and visited Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island and Berwick upon Tweed. Having barely scratched the the surface we will be back for week next time. We instantly felt at home in the the cottage and particularly enjoyed the garden.
Mrs Tyrrell

The cottage was cosy, clean, with clear instructions given as to the whereabouts things were. We loved our stay, great for bird watching, close to amenities, we would recommend the boat trip around the Farne islands. Will definitely come back!

The cottage is very quiet and in a small village but with easy access to the A1. Consequently moving around and going up and down the coast was easy. We found the cottage comfortable and had an enjoyable week there. Plenty of information on things to do and a good supply of maps.

The cottage was homely and comfortable to return to at the end of the day. We appreciated the kind touch of leaving milk etc for our arrival. We enjoyed the area very much and found the leaflets very helpful it was just a pity about the very cold weather but because of this we were happy to spend more time in the comfort of the cottage.

Northumberland is my favourite place in England. The property was lovely, and we especially liked the stove, although we would have preferred the weather to have made it not necessary! Lovely garden, one day, warm enough to have breakfast outdoors.

It was very restful but everything we wanted was very close so we didn't have to drive miles and miles to see what we wanted to see. The weather was brilliant which was a bonus. The cottage was amazing and very comfortable with all mod cons, including a digital TV and DVD and video player. The garden was ideal for sitting in on an evening as it was quite a sun trap.

Perfectly placed between wilderness of Northumberland coast and more popular tourist spots of Holy Island, Bamborough and Seahouses-welcome extra touches for our son which really made it extra special.
Mr Packman
April 2005
Our second time at the cottage. The area is an absolute gem and the cottage is perfect, quiet and peacefull. The wide open and empty beaches are beautiful and the cottage makes a fantasic, clean and well equiped base. Once again it was a real wrench to leave.
Mr Packman
December 2004
The cottage was spotless and very well equipped. The welcome pack (including an Easter egg for our son!) was very thoughtful. The location is ideal, peaceful and quiet yet handy for the A1 and all the local features including :- Holy Island, Bamburgh, Seahouses, Etal and Berwick. The best meal we had out was at the Victoria Hotel at Bamburgh. The huge sand dunes and even bigger beaches on the north of the Holy Island were a great discovery and a very well kept secret. It was a real wrench to leave the log fire and go home.
Mr Pell
December 2004
The area itself is just stunning. The cottage has to be seen to be believed .....the log burning stove was brilliant all in all it was a brillant holiday. Cannot wait till next year to return.

Only a few hundred yards from the a1 but quiet. The cottage was comfortable and well kept and ideal for us to spend a quiet time after days out. Everything was in good order and much information on local area. It was nice to relax on the comfortable sofa or chair aqnd you could sit out in the garden in the "sunshine" (yes we did).

The property was found on an efficient and easy to use website. On arrival we found the cottage tucked away in a quiet villge yet just off the A1. This gave a quiet stay but within reach of lots of local places to visit. The cottage is old but well updated and modernised with lots of equipment and also helpful literature about local amenities. Nearby Berwick-on-Tweed is an interesting town where you can easily spend a whole day in museums in shops and in walking and seeing the riverside scenery. Holy Island is atmospheric but you need to time your visit carefully beause of the tides. The coast is easy to drive along and the scenery with its castles every now and again is often spectacular. The only difficult aspect of the cottage was car parking - not much space and if it rains a quick run to the car is needed. Otherwise the peace and quiet was welcome.

We had stayed in this cottage a few years before. We noticed that the cottage had different owners (as the guest book did not go back beyond 18 months, so our previous review was not in the book). The cottage was comfortable, but not so welcoming as previously (I believe on arrival we had a welcome bowl of fruit, milk and bread previously). The garden was overgrown, whereas before it had been well looked after, and when we contacted the owners about a small issue (recycling food) they seemed annoyed that we had called. Despite this, we had a lovely stay and I would recommend this cottage as a good base for exploring the Northumberland coast.
