The start of the Haematite and Cumbrian Way footpaths are close by, as are the twin pubs at Great Urswick Tarn - locally renowned for their fine ales and good food. Nearby Ulverston is an ancient market town, which still holds a streetmarket every Thursday and Saturday. Facilities there include a wide range of shops, pubs, and restaurants whilst all of the attractions of the National Park are within easy reach. Also close by is the Furness Coast, boasting sandy beaches and good birdwatching. Other attractions include the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, the South Lakes Wild Animal Park and Muncaster Castle.
