This was our third stay at Biffins Berth. It was cold on our visit to Whitby this year, with a north wind and it was lovely to get back to a cosy, warm, comfortable cottage which is fully equipped for just about every need. The outside area is beautiful, you are able to watch the assortment of birds and rabbits feeding outside. The River Esk runs alongside and a heron or two were often there feeding. You also get the stream train chuffing along and get waves from the passengers, many in fancy dress, as it was Whitby Goth Weekend. Our little dog loved the walks. We used the swimming pool this year, which we found excellent.

The location was excellent for accessing Whitby and surrounding areas, by foot and by car. It was quiet and peaceful, and we slept very well. The ducks and the train going past, and the outdoor play equipment delighted our toddler.

This was our second stay at Biffins Berth. It is a cosy pleasant cottage with just about everything you need, and in beautiful surroundings. We hope to return next year. Whitby is a great place, very friendly and mostly dog friendly. There are some very nice pubs and wonderful views from the Abbey. Cannot wait to come back.

Beautiful location, lovely walks by the river and excellent views of wildlife, and the steam train. Whitby is a very friendly town and very dog friendly which was very welcomed by us. We were there for the Goth weekend, which was fun. The cottage was handy for the town and we were able to buy a car park ticket which enabled us to park all week without any worries, from the tourist board. Whitby is one of our favourite places.
Mr Darmon

The cottage was beautifully clean right next to a children's playground. Very peacefully. Swimming pool fantastic. Central for visiting most places five minutes from Whitby. Had a fabulous holiday.

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at Biffins Berth as it is a great base for a holiday in Whitby. Our children love the garden with all its play equipment, and use of the indoor pool is such a bonus. You can walk into Whitby town centre in 20 minutes, Flamingo Land theme park is a 40 minute drive away and a new grocery store has opened 5 minutes drive from the apartment which we found very handy. We will definitely be back.

We enjoyed the tranquillity of the area, the passing of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway trains each day, and the walks for us and our dog around the area.
Mrs Gill
July 2012
The location of the cottage was fantastic, the use of the private pool was wonderful and we took our 2 year old every morning. The view and garden area was excellent - it was a real bonus that the door opened out on to the children's play ground. Unfortunately we didn't get to use the BBQ or outside space to its full advantage, but it was still a big positive to the stay. One of the highlights for our little girl was that every day the ducks came to our door step and she enjoyed feeding them. The fact there was a river next to the cottage was not a problem, as I had worried, as there was a gate and quite a large area between the cottage and river. I imagine on a nice day we could have walked into Whitby from the cottage with the pushchair. We visited many places to entertain a child and it was an excellent base. The best day out was at Flamingo Land, Malton. We visited Whitby, Scarborough (including the Sealife Centre and Peasholm Park), Filey (a play farm nearby), Satburn-by-the-Sea, Sandsend and Robin Hoods Bay. Would definitely recommend and stay again. The cottage was open plan, homely and great for our 2 year old. The communication with the owner was excellent and very helpful.

July 2009
Found the property without even looking at the map once from Newcastle all the way through Whitby. The surroundings of the cottage were great, pretty wooded valley with impressive old viaduct over which you could walk into town. The cottage itself backed onto a lovely play area which was perfect for the children and fenced off from the river so we could sit at the table on the back patio and watch them play. Enjoyed the swimming pool.
Mr Mrs Bylinsky

Excellent position for young children as it opens onto the play park. Lovely pool walk along the viaduct, which is about 15 minutes to Whitby, much easier than paying for parking. A lovely place and we will visit again.

September 2006
A first class cottage, as a base to do what we required ie: visit the coast, the nearby steam railway, and able to come back at night to the peace and quiet we like, being able to bring the dog was also first class.
May 2012
Cracking little place to stay, just outside the middle of Whitby; about ten - twenty mins walk I think. Biffins Berth is part of an estate of maisonettes on the river bank, with a childrens play park and an indoor swimming pool for the use of visitors.

Stayed at the end of June with my wife and our retired guide dog . The cottage met all our requirements and was well presented and ideal for a small family group. The whole area was a pleasure to explore and the steam hauled train passing through each day added to the enjoyment..
November 2012
A beautiful location , and a very nice House with all you may need. However , we shall not stay again unless they improve the bed !It was creaky , and the thinest most uncomfortable mattress ever! That ruined our stay.We woke up tired as it took so long to get comfy. Then woke with bad backs . Im not being overly fussy, I was in the Forces and have slept in allsorts of places. Shame because other wise this is a loverly place.
December 2009
The location was excellent for my 2 boys - they spent many an hour feeding the ducks and watching the trains go by. We have been twice now and would definitely go again
August 2011
Living/dining area did not appear to have been dusted properly; magazines left by other renters had not been cleared for what seems like months. Main wardrobe very untidy, spare blanket and other thing I do not remember just thrown in. Mattress and pillows in main bedroom should have been replaced months ago; mattress so warn could feel the wood slats through it! Toilet seat broken and the tap fitting shower head and hose was a joke. All in all an ideal location badly let down by cleanliness, bedroom furniture and fittings

August 2013
The location of Biffins Berth is really superb, in a group of cottages on the lower level set in a well managed green space close to the river Esk, railway line, & viaduct. Although within a mile of Whitby, it's very peaceful with a rural feel. You can walk up onto the viaduct and into Whitby along a track, or to Ruswarp along a field path.On the site there is a children's playground, small indoor swimming pool, laundry room with washers, tumble dryers and ironing facilities. The cottage itself is very small but quite well laid out with a comfortable sitting and dining area. The kitchen is really too small so lacking in storage space and worktops, so we had to store some of our food packets eg. cereals in the corner of the living room. There were a few things missing which we had expected to be there, a teapot, fruit/veg knife, fruit/salad bowl, and not enough small plates for 4 people. The large number of glasses could have been reduced to give more space in the cupboards. The main bedroom also lacks storage space for clothes so we found ourselves living out of our case. The children's bedroom did have a chest of drawers and cupboard. The bathroom could do with a revamp as it did not have a shower apart from a plastic one which had to be attached to the bathtaps, and the sealant at the edge of the bath was a strip of wood which was starting to rot. We had to provide our own towels & bathmat. In spite of these minor problems we had a great holiday with our grandchildren - there was plenty of space for them to play out and meet other children, they enjoyed the swimming pool and watching the wildlife on the river and the steam trains passing. It was a convenient location for the short drive or walk into Whitby, a drive to Danby Lodge near Lealholm where there are activities for children and a museum and play area. One highlight was canoeing which is close by at Ruswarp. The people who run that are very friendly & helpful. I would definitely recommend this location and site for a holiday for young families. We would probably go back but would prefer a slightly larger cottage, still on the lower level by the river.
