Birch Cottage Family Cottage description

Holiday home
Birch Cottage is a fabulous holiday cottage close to Balmoral Castle in the Royal Deeside area of the Cairngorms, with a stunning glass wall which takes full advantage of the spectacular views from the garden onto Creag Namh Bahn. The cottage has four bedrooms, two twins and two ground floor doubles (one of which has an ensuite) which with the addition of a sofabed on the mezzanine makes it able to sleep ten people. There is a further family bathroom and ground floor toilet as well as a superb open plan living area which includes the fitted kitchen, a dining area and a sitting area with an open fire and doors to the patio. There is also a utility room with a drying room available. To the exterior of the cottage is an enclosed garden with patio areas and garden furniture with the addition of off road parking for five cars. Birch Cottage is a gorgeous holiday home fit for anyone wanting to visit this historical part of Northern Scotland.

Area
Crathie is located in the Cairngorms National Park at the heart of Royal Deeside. It is a favourite Scottish retreat of the Royal Family with Balmoral Castle less than a mile away whilst Queen Victoria's personal servant, John Brown, is buried in the graveyard in Crathie Church. The village of Crathie is one of the destinations on the Castle Trail, not only because of Balmoral but because of its close proximity to Abergeldie Castle. The Cairngorms National Park contains spectacular scenery, offering many opportunities for leisure activities and walks. The abundance of wildlife makes it a paradise for naturalists and birdwatchers. Nearby Braemar Golf Club is the highest 18-hole course in Scotland, and is split in two by the River Clunie.

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

A nice place for a group of 7 people. It was clean and had a big kitchen, with a very nice fire place! A very quiet stay in the middle of nature.

A big house with multiple spaces to relax. The kitchen was large and well stocked with ample room for large cooking parties. The garden was huge with lots of space to play with the kids. Big rooms with lots of nice little details.

Everything we needed to be perfectly comfortable was available in the cottage. The kitchen was equipped to a high standard, the bedrooms comfortable, the under floor heating was wonderful, the picture windows beautiful, and we enjoyed a fire every evening. The kids loved the games cabinet and the swing outside, too! We had room to spread out in the spacious floor plan and enjoyed the quiet and privacy of the location. We saw deer and scores of birds in the garden. Easy to find necessities and dining at nearby Breamar and Ballater, and it was lovely to be so close to Balmoral, Deeside, and Royal Lochnagar Distillery.

We all really enjoyed our holiday. The Cottage was lovely with everything we could have wanted - the dishwasher being the jewel in the crown. Cannot fault the property and would highly recommend it to others. Nearby Ballater was very pleasant and has plenty of options for food to eat in or take away if you want to avoid cooking on your holiday.

The location was wonderful. We loved the open fire with plentiful supply of logs. The house was very warm, thanks to underfloor heating. Great views from the huge window. Layout of house spacious and well designed modern extension blended with traditional original building. Good provision of hanging space and storage of boots in entrance hall.

The cottage had a lovely homely feel to it. The surroundings were beautiful. We only had a short break but I feel as though I've been away for a month! A wonderful place to recharge the batteries. Thank you!
