Bracken Edge was really lovely. The views were incredible. The bungalow was in a truly fabulous position and we loved sitting in the rear porch having tea just taking it all in. The owner called to see if we had settled in and that all was OK. She could not have been nicer and left us tea ,sugar, milk and even chocolate biscuits! Wonderful holiday and we are really glad that we were just lucky enough to pick such a winner. Thanks.

Our second visit to this property and it was every bit as good as we remembered, the weather was very kind and we had such a relaxing break we'd have loved to have stayed longer. Owners go that extra mile to ensure all is perfect for every new guest that arrives and will be on hand if needed.
Mrs Kilpin

This cottage has stunning views across the valley from both the Lounge and Kitchen windows. The cottage was very clean, and the owners obviously take great pride in it. The Kitchen was extremely well furnished with all the utensils and crockery that you could possibly want. The location is perfect for a quiet getaway. It was close to some incredibly scenic walks, and the village of Sleights has everything you need. Would highly recommend the Plough Inn, Eskdale Fisheries Fish Chip Shop and the Bakery.

We all loved the rural location, and the fantastic views. The house was warm, and the beds were clean and very comfortable with all fixtures and furnishings in good condition, and in keeping with the cottage. It was also very easy to access the main roads to travel around the county. To anyone who has not visited Yorkshire before, the scenery is stunning. The local people could not be friendlier!

The cottage was by far the best we have ever stayed in and we have been visiting North Yorkshire for many years now. There was everything we could have wished for in the cottage and what really made our holiday was the fact that from both the cottage itself and the garden you were surrounded by stunning scenery - the moors, Whitby Abbey and the sea. The cottage was situated in an excellent and extremely good location, enabling us to visit all of the beautiful areas of North Yorkshire with ease. A far cry from the South East! We shall certainly return as soon as we are able to.

This cottage must be the best we have stayed in. The views from the cottage were wonderful, and to have breakfast on the patio with Whitby in the distance was a treat. You were ideally situated for the Moors or the Sea, with both only a few minutes drive away. The owners were great with tea and biscuits awaiting us on our arrival. Unfortunately one week wasn't long enough, we must visit Bracken Edge again. Everything was perfect.

April 2005
The accommodation was very clean and comfortable, we felt very much at home, it was well situated for lots of days out. We met the owner who was very friendly and we felt that if anything was needed we would have no problems asking her. All little extras were there in the cottage, washing up liquid, dish cloth, bin bags, toilet rolls etc which was a nice touch as i have been to other cottages that cost a lot more and not had any of these things. I would have no hesitation in recommending it to friends and family.
Mrs Fairlamb
January 2005
I have visited this property twice now and on both occasions found the homeliness and comfort of the property excellent. I am sure that the owners go above and beyond the call of duty though as they provide everything you need but usually forget to take. Toilet roll, kitchen roll, kindling and fuel for the fire, washing up liquid, tea, milk, biscuits...the list goes on on and on. The view is fantastic and you are close enough to everything whilst being away from the crowds.
Mrs Boler

Bracken Edge is a beautiful property with magnificent views across the valley to Whitby Abbey and the surrounding countryside. The cottage is warm cosy and comfortable, it felt like we were coming home. We had a warm welcome from the owner. our second visit to this cottage and we were every bit as delighted as we were the first time. First impressions must be the incredible view from the sitting room window, wish we could bottle it and take it home !!. The cottage is very well equipped and extremely comfortable and clean, owner's on hand if needed and an excellent base for exploring north Yorkshire

We only chose Bracken Edge as our second choice and how glad we were that we did. It was just like home from home and the owners went the extra mile with toiletries etc. It was spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable with comfy chairs and nice beds. The view from the property was to die for and the little conservatory at the rear was the perfect place for morning coffee and afternoon tea (can recommend the sticky buns from the bakery in the village. We met the owner Hazel who was very friendly and said if we had any problems she lived just down the lane. I would highly recommend the property on all counts and we had a fabulous week there. May 2013
We stayed at Bracken Edge for a week at Easter with my children, parents and 2 guide dogs. Booked last minute through Sykes cottages. The house was comfortable and had everything that we needed. Cooker was broken when we arrived (first guests of the season) but replaced quickly by the helpful owner and caused us no problems. Lots of great places to visit locally. The house is on a very quiet lane and really peaceful but the main road to Slights is really busy and you need to drive to the village. Views are lovely, Food in Slights very variable, better experiences in Whitby. The house was exceptionally clean. My Mum who is visually impaired stayed in the large front bedroom which was perfect for her,Dad and the dogs, families with very young kids may struggle with the spiral staircase to the upstairs bedroom, my older kids loved it and bedtime was an adventure! With 6 people and 2 dogs in the house we really used it to the max but were perfectly comfortable and had a lovely time.
