Bray Cottage Family Cottage description

Holiday home
This charming 250-year old stone cottage lies adjacent to the owner's house on a working farm, close to the centre of Hepworth and just two miles from Holmfirth. Boasting traditional features, such as oak beams, this cosy cottage is just a short walk from the village pubs and restaurants. Guests can enjoy free use of the owner's superb, indoor heated pool, sauna and steam room. The property is able to sleep up to six people, making it ideal for a larger family. With plenty of activities on the doorstep, children are welcome to help on the farm with the hens, pigs, sheep, cows and other animals or to enjoy the nearby playground.

Area
The traditional Pennine village of Hepworth is located in the heart of the beautiful Holme Valley, on the edge of the West Yorkshire Pennines. First noted in the Domesday Book, the village is composed of stone cottages, a beautiful church and an excellent pub with restaurant. The village itself still practices many traditions including the centuries old Hepworth Feast commemorating the end of the Great Plague in Hepworth on the last Saturday of every June. The neighbouring towns of Hepworth and Holmfirth are most renowned as the home of the long running comedy series 'Last of the Summer Wine'. The nearby Colne Valley is home to the fictional 'Skelthwaite' from the equally successful television series 'Where the Heart Is'. This is an incredibly scenic area, steeped in history and tradition.

The use of a fantastic indoor swimming pool was brilliant and the owners were very welcoming. It was great that the children had the opportunity to get involved with animal feeding and egg collecting. The property had spacious bedrooms and plenty of drawers and wardrobes. A great week away, will definitely go back.

I had booked two cottages so that we could have a family get-together with my daughter who was over from New Zealand. We were able to all eat together in this cottage, often in the garden. The owners were very welcoming and helpful and we all had a wonderful time.

We have been using self catering cottages for 8 years, this is the best of them all. The owners were helpful and friendly. The cottage wanted for nothing and the involvement in the farm was a bonus for us with two children. We would definitely recommend this property, they have thought of everything!

A fantastic holiday, the accommodation was great, the children were well catered for both in the cottage and around the farm. They really enjoyed feeding the animals and egg collecting. It was a bonus that we could select our pool times for when it suited us. The play barn was ideal for children and adults, with table tennis, table football and miniature snooker table and the outdoor play area was great too. The owners and staff were really friendly and helpful at all times.

A lovely peaceful location. The children staying in the other cottages were able to make friends and play out. The children were also encouraged to help with animals on the farm.

Everything was in character with the building and surrounding areas, which was lovely. The pool was a big bonus and the staff were very friendly and patient when it came to the children 'helping' out with the animals. We would visit again and would recommend it to friends and family.

A beautiful property in a wonderfully peaceful location. Bray Cottage has a safe and secluded garden which is perfect for small children. The on site indoor pool/sauna/steam room means that you can stay close all day. The cottage is well appointed and the owners are very helpful and friendly.

Bray Cottage was lovely, it had everything we needed. There was something for everyone to do. Feeding the animals in the morning, then a private swim session in the pool (steam room & sauna if you wish) , then we went to help let the hens out and collect the eggs. My 12yr old daughter absolutely loved helping. My 13yr old daughter not an animal person but she loved the swimming and cottage, also we all went on some walks around the area which were recommended. My husband loved the animals, cottage and walking, there are lots of photo opportunities if interested in photography, I Ioved everything but preferred the easier walks as not as fit as i should be. Everyone was welcoming and lovely. Fresh Eggs for breakfast if you wish, also available is different meats if you have nice weather, here is a barbeque in the shed. Fantastic all round holiday. Charlotte just reminded me to say that there is a play area where you will find LEO a really cute rabbit, who is trying to dig a tunnel under his play pen (hope he doesn't escape) There is also a big shed (games room) Pool table, football table and table tennis. Would definately Recommend this holiday. A++++++++++++++++++++

This cottage was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed with plenty of space for us and our 3 young children. We all enjoyed joining in with the activities on the farm and the playground also, was great for the children. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We had good weather for april and had plenty of opportunities to explore the local area with its wealth of lovely walks etc.The highlight was being able to swim in the pool every day, particularly as it was lovely and warm and the booking system meant that you could reserve a session for private use before each day and plan your other activities accordingly.

This cottage is part of the larger farm with access to the pool, and small 'playground'. We were disappointed with the location as the children were unable to play on the climbing frame on their own, which meant that someone had to walk up from the cottage to watch them. The cottage is actually nestled in amongst houses in the village, which makes it difficult to sit outside in the evening, without (understandably) upsetting the neighbours. There do seem to be a lot of rules for things that don't necessarily need saying.

We felt welcome in this cottage, which is based on a farm. Our children enjoyed collecting eggs in the morning and helping to feed the animals. The most relaxing part of the holiday was the hour and a half each day of exclusive use of the indoor pool and sauna, where you can recline and watch the geese potter about through the windows. Plenty of pretty walks from the village and lots for children to do in the area. Ours enjoyed visiting Eureka in Halifax and the National Mining Museum near Wakefield. The cottage was clean and cosy.
