Nestled in the heart of Bonsall, this village is full of surprises - not only does it have connections with UFOs, but every August in the pub car park of the Barley Mow, it holds the World Hen Racing Championships. This event has won international acclaim and has been featured in many TV documentaries. It is also home to two pubs, one of which is a minute’s stroll away.
This part of Derbyshire has a rich heritage, with nearby Cromford being home to the Arkwright Mills, and Crich, playing host to a Tramway Village.
Matlock Bath is just a short drive away and is the base for the cable car leading to the Heights of Abraham, a sixty-acre hilltop country park. Also worth a visit are the famous Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and the delightful market towns of Bakewell and Buxton.
Bonsall is an ideal base for walkers and mountain bikers who will enjoy the magnificent trails that abound in this part of the Peak District, whilst water sport enthusiasts are well-served by Carsington Water, which is just seven miles away.
