Ideal base for touring, accomodation was first class. Our second time in 2 years visiting Thorton-le-Dale and on both occasions we rented a different bungalow and both owned by the same family and each one was first class. By the way if you are thinking about visiting Thorton you must try the bakers 1 min from bungalow ice cream shop, simply excellent.

This is the second time we have been to Brookwood Cottage and I'm sure we will be returning next year. The cottage is light and airy with plenty of space and is beautifully clean. The owners are very friendly and I would highly recommend a visit to their bakery.

A tastefully furnished and well kept property in a pretty little village well sited for the moors. Owners friendly and helpful at all times, particularly when our car failed and we needed proof of where we were staying to rent a spare. This is the second time we have visited and we will undoubtedly return again.

Great location, both where the cottage is situated in the village and the village itself. Large, roomy property, very clean and lots of extras. All linen provided plus kitchen essentials - washing up liquid, foil, cling film, etc. Very comfortable beds and owners were very friendly and helpful.

This house was a fantastic place to stay with our two boys (5 and 2 years). Lots of space and all the amenities we needed. Very friendly owners too! Great to have the car port - it provided cover for all our bikes. Nice quiet road yet still very close to the village. The surrounding area is brilliant for a family holiday - loads of things to do, near the lovely Dalby Forest and several castles, the coast and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. We could have filled another two weeks quite happily.

September 2008
The cottage was extremely well equipped and comfortable, with good parking and easy access to all local attractions from York in the South West to Whitby and the moors in the North east. A particularly nice touch is the way every room was complimented by matching and tasteful ornaments and pictures. We are already planning to come back next year.

The village was picturesque and the house was excellent in all aspects. The area was very quiet and almost backed onto the countryside. We found the location to be an excellent one for touring around especially in the Moors and across to the coast. We hope to come again some time in the future.

Everything was fantastic except that we found it impossible to use the third bedroom because of the noise of the water tank. This was a very serious drawback as we had booked 3 bedrooms because we needs all 3. Also, a pint of milk etc as a welcome would have been nice after a long journey to arrive.

A spacious well appointed proprty maintained to a high standard. The cottage was well appointed with all the appliances that could be needed, together with lots of matched ornaments that gave the place a homely feel. It is well sited in the centre of an attractive village close to shops, restaurant and pub. It is also near Pickering, the start of the excellent North York Moors railway (well worth a visit)and excellently located to visit the moors as well as the coast. York too is within reasonable travelling distance. The owners were helpful and welcoming. We will definately be going back!

Superb holiday. Lovely cottage. Not ideal for young children as garden not enclosed - perfect, though, for our group.

This is my second year staying in Thorton-Le-Dale and this time was every bit as good as last year. Both cottages were owned by the same family and i decided to try Brookwood cottage only because the other one was fully booked.Everything was just as i expected, great accomodation, very friendly people and the owners, well i can't praise them enough. Thorton-Le-Dale has to be the best village i have ever stayed in and as i am 60yrs old and travelled, that says something. A short walk (50yards) you have one of the best bakeries in the country, another 5 yards and a lovely cafe, gift shop and not forgetting the ice-cream parlour, you have got to try it. The location (and thats if you can find the time to leave the village)is 1st class,Scarborough, filey,Whitby, York and Gothland (heartbeat)are all within a 30 minute drive. My wife and i are already planning our holiday for 2014 and it is definately in Thorton-Le-Dale.

Excellent place to relax with a 5 month old baby. Lovely, clean and interesting village. The Buck Inn was cosy and served wonderful a la carte meals. Walks in the area were beautiful, especially with the snow on the ground.
