Broomfield Cottage description

Holiday home
Broomfield is a cottage that has been lovingly converted from an old barn near to the North Yorks Moors village of Great Ayton, near to the market town of Guisborough. The cottage contains three bedrooms consisting of two doubles and one twin which with the addition of a wet room bathroom, making it suitable for six people. The rest of the accommodation is made up of a fitted kitchen and a sitting room with a dining area. To the outside is a communal courtyard with outdoor furniture and a barbecue, as well as off road parking for three cars. With its two neighbouring cottages, Broomfield can accommodate up to twelve people, making this a fabulous cottage for a large family to use as a base for exploring this wonderful region.

Area
The village of Great Ayton lies on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, at the foot of the Cleveland Hills. Great Ayton is famous for being the boyhood home of Captain Cook, and is also mentioned in the Domesday Book. The village consists of a mixture of stone cottages and some new development housing. Great Ayton has two village greens, with a river running alongside, making it a popular picnic spot in the summer months. To the north of the village, the view is dominated by Roseberry Topping, a 330 metre hill. In the village are a good range of shops and inns, which, together with restaurants and cafes, cater well for holidaymakers. There is also the old school, now converted into the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum. Around the village are several interesting walks and Great Ayton makes a great base for walkers wishing to explore the stunning countryside around, especially in the summer months when the moors turn purple with blooming heather.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

Excellent holiday accommodation. It was very well situated for local facilities which were in within walking distance and was well situated for further exploring. The owner was a super hostess and nothing was too much trouble.

The cottage is beautifully furnished and the structure itself is also very good looking. Its location is great, the village gorgeous and it has offstreet parking, although there isn't a garden despite what the description says it's got a sort of shared unenclosed courtyard with a table and chairs. There are some things that need sorting out though...The underfloor heating is difficult to work with, the kitchen has very little storage space and 3 useable pans, the fridge is the size of a cupboard, the wifi only works if you're on the terrace of the landlady (who is by the way very friendly and pleasant), you can't block the sunlight in the bedrooms - so no sleeping in-, despite paying several hundreds of pounds for a week you still have to put in several pounds for a load of washing, it's got no dishwasher, and you can only rinse the bathtub with a bucket of water or something similar so it gets filthy after using it only once. Since I was walking the Coast to Coast I soaked in it daily and I must say it is a cracking tub, just a pain that you have to fill something several times and can't simply take the shower to rinse it out afer. So basically this cottage is great if you don't cook or need internet and you prefer taking showers - The shower is heavenly, the water comes out like the Niagra Falls -
