The cottage is ideally located as a base to explore, there is so much to do locally as well as further afield. The cottage itself is perfect for a couple, it has everything needed for a relaxing holiday for two. The hosts are non invasive but available if you need them; they really want you to have a good holiday and add a bespoke touch which we found made our holiday extra special. The local village is a 5 minute walk and the pubs are welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our weeks holiday and would highly recommend Bryn Hyfryd Bach as the perfect romantic holiday home in a great location.

We had a fabulous week here enhanced by the glorious weather - but the cottage would be lovely whatever the prevailing weather. The owners greeted us like old friends and were helpful yet discreet. They gave us a few pointers to local sights and walks etc and some hints about shopping which did save time and effort. The cottage is small but very charming and we didn't feel we needed anything bigger so it was perfect for us. The furnishing was exquisite and the the kitchen and bathroom just right. A lovely little garden with the option of the hot tub too made the stay very special for us. We wouldn't hesitate to return and probably will!

Beautiful little cottage, very romantic, in a lovely setting.
April 2011
We had a truely fantastic holiday, the cottage was gorgeous - small but cute and had everything we could possibly have needed; exactly what we were looking for. It did get a bit chilly later at night, but blankets are provided in the living room and an electric heater in the bedroom so it was fine - just remember to pack your slippers! The owners are lovely, they couldnt be more friendly and helpful and were very hospitable. The location is picturesque - beautiful countryside and clean sandy beaches perfect for walks and exploration. The village is very close and an easy walk, there are a few small convenience shops that will sell you what you need and also a couple of nice pubs that serve lovely food. We would love to go back one day.

August 2011
We had a lovely peaceful week in an area we know well. Chris and Paddy were extremely welcoming without being intrusive. One evening they cooked and served an excellent meal in their own conservatory next door for us and our friends who live nearby. The cottage is small, and the lounge can seem a bit dark because of the location on the side of a wooded hill, but it is more than adequate for a couple. It is very well-equipped (even down to tooth-picks on the table!) and there were many homely touches such as scones and wine to welcome us on arrival and tea, coffee, cooking oil and even some herbs and spices in the kitchen. The bed was the most comfortable we have found in a rental cottage.
Mr Parkin
May 2006
We had a warm welcome from the owners, they made us feel at home. The cottage could not have been better and it is ideally situated to explore North Wales and is handy for the coast.
December 2011
The cottage was clean & well equipped, The owners lived next door and gave us a warm welcome. They were very helpful. There is so much to do nearby that we struggled to fit it all in - castles, beaches, holiday towns, walks, quaint villages ... The only thing we didn't like was driving up the very narrow, winding lane to the cottage as we worried about meeting someone coming the other way - although we never did.

December 2014
A brilliant getaway on the North Wales coast. Bryn Hyfryd Bach is on a picturesque, secluded hillside giving you privacy and quiet but there is a shop and garage a short drive away so you don't feel cut off. The butcher at the local SPAR shop is fantastic and you can get most things from there. Visitors should note that there is parking for one car at the cottage and elder/disabled visitors may struggle with the walk back up the hill from the easiest place to leave a second car. The cottage is well appointed and the living room surprisingly roomy (bigger than it looks in the pictures). Wifi is included in the price. The kitchen has a cooker, microwave, toaster and a lot of pots, utensils and crockery for two people. I can be a little tight with two people in there but we managed one cooking while one washed up fairly easily and without arguments! The bedroom has a gorgeous stone feature wall, a very comfortable bed and plenty storage space. Hot water bottles were provided and used on one night, as it can get a little cold up there. The living room has a wood burner to keep warm and with a little 'door management', you can easily warm the whole cottage from it. We didn't need to use the electric heater provided once and it was very cold and windy while we were there. The toilet/shower room has a very modern shower fitted which was always hot and the room has plenty of space to move around in. The owners live in an attached property and were very helpful. I think every review on here mentions Chris and Paddy and they did not disappoint. A truly lovely couple. Use of the hot tub is by appointment as it is at the bottom of their garden and they really go out of the way to make it comfortable for you. They have a little 'games barn' with a wood burner to keep warm while you change and in winter months there is a gazebo over the tub to keep the Welsh weather out. All in all, this was a great break from the rat race and I would happily book again.
Mrs Fielden
February 2009
The owners go that extra mile to make you welcome. Excellent, the best hosts we have had in a rented cottage. Fantastic to sit in window in the bedroom watching birds and sea.
December 2009
A tidey little cottage with great veiws. the owners live next door and could not be more friendly. The food at the local pub is of a high quality, and its not far to walk.It is however a steep return trip. I enjoyed my stay and would recomend this venue to any couple.
December 2009
The owners were great - not intrusive, but there if necessary - the cottage and garden are gorgeous with everything necessary to make it a wonderful stay - perhaps a little settee would be more comfortable than two chairs, but that is all I can think of - the only thing that could be a problem for some people is the lane to the cottage which is very steep
September 2010
I know this area from holidaying when I was a child and it is unchanged over the last 30 years. The cottage is really quaint but very well equipped and it forms a fantastic base for an activity holiday. Cycle route 8 runs past the front door, but be warned, the roads are steep and challenging. There is easy access to other great days out such as the cycle trail along the Mawddach Estuary from Barmouth, walks around Llandanwg Beach or the Rhinog Hills, or a trip to climb Snowdon. There are good amenities in the village with pubs, a restaurant and small convenience stores. The hosts are very friendly and helpful but unobtrusive. An excellent break!
September 2011
the owners were helpful and friendly, making us feel very welcome.the cottage was really comfortable and clean.the garden was lovely and was situated in a very quiet area.the village was a short walk away with a couple of shops and pubs. with a decent bus service.we had a lovely relaxing holiday which was very good value for money.
December 2011
Small, but all you need for a couple! Lovely little garden. Owners couldn't do enough. Everything supplied - tea, coffee, hot chocolate, scones, butter, jam and cream. Was lovely to come back and make up the fire and settle down after a long day!
September 2010
The cottage was delightful, wildlife in abundance and quaint and homely. Paddy and Chris the owners enhanced our stay with their company. Birthday cake on my birthday. Perfect location close to Shell Island and Barmouth. Wonderful scenic drives in the location. Highly recommend and can't wait to go back.
November 2010
Unfortunately i had a back injury and we had to cut the holiday short. Paddy and Chris were brilliant.I couldn't drive because of my back and they drove us home,240 miles.Wonderful people.
November 2010
My wife and I recently booked and payed for a seven night stay at this cottage but disliked the place so much that we left after only five nights. The accommodation consists of a tiny one room wide, two story high cottage which is attached to the owners property and has a connecting door between the cottage and the owners property though which one can clearly hear the owners talking !! The single ground floor room is small and fairly cluttered and is connected to a small bedroom by a set of narrow stairs. At the rear of the cottage are a small kitchen and small shower room with a shower which has no shelf of any sort for placing ones soap or shampoo on. During our stay at this cottage the oven did not work meaning that my wife had to go backwards and forwards to the owners house to use their oven, the cook top was so old that all the markings for the cooking plates had disappeared and we spent ages trying to work out which heating plates were working and at what temperature; the television kept turning its self off; we kept running out of hot water and frequently had to boil a jug to wash up; we experienced quite a lot of noise from the owners property through the connecting door and had to turn the TV up, when it worked, to drowned out the owners conversations. Secondary heating in the cottage is provided by a tiny enclosed wood fire and a bag of tiny pieces of wood can be obtained from the owners. However we tried this tiny fire on one occasion and found that it burnt the tiny pieces of wood very quickly and gave out almost no heat so gave that idea away. Just a pity that the owners do not supply an electric fan heater as that would heat such a small cottage really quickly. We found the cottage bad enough but the access to the place was even worse. In this instance the cottage is accessed by a steep and very narrow, stone wall lined two way but one lane country lane with few passing places. This lane is bad enough but when one arrives at the cottage one is advised by he owners that there is not enough room to turn the car around to drive back down the lane !! To turn around you have to drive much further up this narrow lane, hoping that no one is coming the other way, to look for a farm gate in which one can turn and then drive back to the cottage !! We were also advise by the owners that other guests had damaged their cars when trying to turn their cars around at the cottage. Guess they were trying to avoid the long drive into the hills to look for that farm gate !! We found this part of Wales scenically magnificent but our stay at this cottage was awful. Thank goodness our next S/C cottage was light years ahead of this one and cheaper.
