Burrs Cottage Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
Burrs Cottage is a stone built cottage in an elevated position within walking distance of the village of Great Hucklow in the Peak District. This cottage sleeps two people and has one double bedroom with an ensuite shower room. The cottage also has a kitchen area and a sitting area with a woodburning stove, plus a conservatory with a dining area. To the outside, there is ample off road parking and a garden with a pond, furniture and a BBQ. Located in the stunning Peak District National Park, Burrs Cottage is ideal for a romantic break.

Area
Set between the Peak District's two distinctive landscapes – the limestone dales and gritstone moorland – the idyllic village of Great Hucklow is well-positioned for those looking to explore both the white peak and the dark peak. The little town itself offers a pub serving food and interesting beers whilst the traditional well-dressing and gala day still takes place in the second week of August. There are also wonderful lights throughout the picturesque village at Christmas, making this a cosy, atmospheric winter destination. The neighbouring villages of Eyam - the plague village - Tideswell - home to the Cathedral of The Peak - and Bradwell – the historic lead mining village – are all close by, as is the impressive scenery of the Pennines.

Region
The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Amenities
Central heating from woodburning stove in sitting room and electric room heaters. Electric double oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, TV, video, DVD player, WiFi, radio. All fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Ample off road parking. Use of garden with wild flower meadow, pond, garden furniture and BBQ. Sunny sitting area with bistro table. Well-behaved pets welcome. The owners were very hospitable and friendly. The Cottage was absolutely charming and the location was peaceful, stunning and beautiful! Plenty of places to visit, there was something for everyone and the owners left plenty of leaflets, a map and a folder with lots of information providing even more information of places of interest, of public houses, and all essential amenities in the village and beyond. They thought of everything. This is the best cottage we have ever stayed in with wonderful views overlooking the valley. A great cottage and a great price! Would recommend to family and friends and would certainly book again for a holiday.

March 2014
Stayed for a week in this quirky cottage. on arrival the owners greeted us along with their dog, very friendly. Inside it is very compact with a very steep staircase, thankfully as advised we only had holdalls. Upstairs again is compact with significant room for everything, with a small bathroom. A nice touch was the welcoming chocolates, along with tea etc. to get you going. It was nice that we had use of the garden our two dogs got on well with the owners dog, plus you had access to a field if you wished for your dog's. We had a lovely time here and on a dull day it is comfy enough to relax. The views from the cottage was lovely being in an elevated position. Burrs cottage is an ideal location for walking even from base. We will be use burrs cottage again, would definitely recommend it.

The cottage is small but lovely. Very steep, narrow steps to the second floor...but worth the climb to reach the spacious bedroom and bathroom. The location is idealic and beautiful. The local pub is friendly and serves delicious food. We had an incredible stay...as did our dogs! We hope to return again in the near future!!

October 2013
We and our dogs were made very welcome, it was nice to feel that the dogs were welcome visitors, not just tolerated. The owners were on site to meet us and gave us a short but comprehensive guide around the cottage and the gardens and grounds, which we were given free access to. Burrs Cottage proved to be the perfect holiday stay for us, handy for all the walking areas of the Peak District, the views from the cottage are exceptional, especially so from the bedroom window, waking to that was an absolute joy. The cottage was very well equipped and lacked for nothing except perhaps a few cushions on the chairs. There are some very good pubs and restaurants nearby, Fish and Chips and a late opening store in Tideswell(5 mins in car). One note of caution, if you can't manage steep stairs this is not for you, we thought it contributed to the charm of the place, and we will definitely be visiting again

September 2012
We had a lovely week at Burrs Cottage. In an ideal location, close to all the Peaks has to offer but also secluded enough for perfect peace. The down stairs is very small (but contains everything you need) but was quite surprised how bright and roomy the bedroom seemed. Very comfortable bed.The only slight concern to people maybe the steepnes of the steps, they were quite difficult to get up and down. The owners who live next door were extremely friendly and most helpful but did not intrude at all during our week. Not much in the village of Gt Hucklow itself but neighbouring villages of Foolow and Eyam are just perfect. Had a wonderful week, especially the dogs. Will definitely visit again.

My husband and i wanted to get away to celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary and we couldn't have found anywhere more perfect! we knew from the description the cottege was going to be small but we were both taken back by how cute it is and how the owners had managed to fit it out so perfectly. The views are amazing, the local walks breathtaking and the local village very friendly.

Very good little (and I mean little!) cottage with helpful owners based next door. Seating not overly comfortable for people who suffer with bad backs but satisfactory. Bed was lovely though! Beautiful views from front of cottage across some lovely countryside. Have to be very careful of steep staircase but once you get the knack of coming down backwards all is ok. Would certainly recommend for a fit couple of people. Our dog certainly enjoyed the locale.

If you want a very quiet break..this is for you...Stairs a bit narrow and steep...But other than that the cottage is a great little hideaway....You do need a car.....to get about....Nice little pub in village....Good base if you want to visit around derbyshire......All mod cons in the cottage.......Really nice views it sits on a little plateau....it is attached to main house.......but it is not a problem at all....Dog welcome......

December 2009
Lovely owners but sadly they went on holls that week !! Very kindly left lovely welcome pack and could not have been nicer. As I went for a week on my own i did not realise that I would be that isolated so more info about the remoteness would have been nice.I felt rather scared alone at night there even though we actually live in the ocuntry ourselves but in a village. Lovely for holiday with dog, nice outlook but only appreciated in summer as sunroom in winter not much use ! Unfortunately I found that it felt a bit spartan and could have been a bit more cosy/omfortable, perhaps some more generosity of bedlinen ie bigger pillows rather than thin flat ones and something like a nice warm blanket and some thicker wondow dressing or something to feel a bit more cosy as it was winter and chilly. Prob nice in the wamr summer months but not great in winter, also had damp probs and smelt of cat wee so I spent ages washing through the mats in the itchen to get rid of the smell and then realised that it most likely was damp. Steps to bedroom were lethal but this was mentioned. It was not very luxurious and could easily achieve this without spending much mney - winter curtains and extra soft furnishings and something to keep the damp away.

We booked this cottage pretty much at the last minute for a three-night break. We received a warm welcome, which included a dish of chocolates and milk in the fridge, along with some home-made jam and marmalade. Although very tiny and with a perilously steep wooden staircase, the cottage was very well-eqipped and thoughtfully laid out. Despite the cold nights and a fall of snow, the wood-burning stove kept us beautifully warm. There was a positive library of guides and maps, which told us all we needed to know about the area, and a real bonus was being able to walk directly from the front door without having to use the car. The view from the conservatory and from the bedroom is extensive and lovely. We felt that this cottage was one of the most charming and delightful places we have stayed in, and great care had been taken to provide for our comfort and relaxation.

A delightful cottage in an idyllic location. The accommodation was bijou, but there was everything we needed to make our stay really comfortable. The views from the cottage across the valley were fantastic. An ideal location for taking the dogs. Central for touring places of local interest - Castleton, Bakewell, Buxton, all within a short drive. Hope to return again soon. Highly recommended.
