Butterwick description

Holiday home
Butterwick is set on a working farm close to the village of Staindrop in Teesdale, just five miles from Barnard Castle. The cottage has one family room with an ensuite and one twin, as well as a family bathroom which makes it suitable for five people. Also in the cottage are a fitted kitchen with a dining area and a sitting room with an electric fire. Outside the cottage is off road parking for two cars, a sheltered shared front courtyard with furniture and a designated play area for children (adult supervision required). Ideal for exploring the northern Dales, Butterwick is sure to appeal to the whole family.

Area
Located in the York Dales, the pretty Teesdale village of Staindrop has long been associated with the fortunes of nearby Raby Castle. Open to the public, this monument is one of the grandest in England. Modified and extended over the centuries, the heart of the castle is medieval, boasting a walled garden in addition to a 200-acre deer park. The pretty village of Staindrop itself has many diverse shops, pubs and cafes, all set around its long village green. The popular market town of Barnard Castle is only five miles away and is home to the Bowes Museum in addition to its renowned castle and a wide range of shops and tea-rooms. The countryside surrounding Staindrop is excellent for walkers and cyclists, meaning that there is something for everybody in this fabulous region.

Region
From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

Was a 4-star property - felt like it should have been 5-star! An excellent property - we stayed there before 4 years ago when it was brand new, and were impressed by the way it still felt like new 4 years later. It oozed quality. Owners living next door, very friendly and helpful.

Lovely cottage, warm welcome from the owners. Peaceful relaxing venue. Well placed for access to tourist attractions / places of interest in the North East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria.

We particularly liked the fact that we were able to open up the 2 adjacent properties, Butterwick and Millstone, into each other and have a huge house for 8 adults and 2 young children. Our grand-daughter loved the farm and was able to feed chickens and lambs and ride a pony. The small childrens play area outside was a great success, as were the numerous toys for all ages inside the house. Adults appreciated the jacuzzi bath and sauna and found the cooking and dining facilities brilliant for large family meals. Overall a brilliant holiday.

Easy access to lovely open countryside, and lots of historic sites too. Very friendly hosts and dog-friendly environment. Very much enjoyed staying in the barn and seeing the activities of a small farming community.

Wonderful properties which enabled us as a family to be all together for the first time for some years. Loved the area. The more active members made good use of the variety of waterfall walks and other activities. Friendly hosts. Introducing our grandchildren to the pony was much appreciated. Sauna and spa bath well used throughout (especially by the walkers)! Lovely facilities, lovely people, good pubs in the area, what more could anyone ask?

This was a lovely converted barn; it was comfortable, cosy and in a beautiful part of the country, with lots of sightseeing opportunities within easy reach. It was thoroughly enjoyable and we received a warm welcome on arrival.

It was much nicer than the pictures suggested! Owners appear to have furnished with 'quality' rather than flimsy furniture. Lovely quiet village and owners very helpful and friendly.

This is a lovely spacious barn, light and relaxed- great for a family group. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and with friendly owners next door. Could have done with a good clean and some maintainance but overall very good. The dog living on the other side of the road is a bit fierce and doesn't like other dogs.

Very welcoming family and village neighbours. Relaxed atmosphere. Bottle of wine, teabags etc great on arrival - little touches make all the difference. It makes a pleasant change to go to a holiday home where you are not paying to have fewer facilities then you do in your own home. This cottage was equipped to live in, rather than just exist in.
