Byways Romantic Cottage description

Holiday home
Just a stone's throw from the picturesque village of Cartmel, this charming terraced cottage situated on a quiet country lane has been lovingly restored. Set in the heart of the South Lakes district, this wonderful little cottage comes with all mod-cons - such as an iPod dock and DVD player - and is within easy driving distance of the Lake District National Park, Lakeland Motor Museum and pleasant seaside resort of Grange-over-Sands making it a great destination, no matter what the time of year.

Renowned for being the prettiest village in the Lake District, the small town of Cartmel in South Lakeland is a wonderful, picturesque holiday destination. At the heart of this thriving community is the Priory Church, one of the finest ecclesiastical buildings in the north of England with its gatehouse still in use as the entrance to the settlement itself. Amidst cobbled streets and pretty streamside walks, are a range of quaint gift shops, antique shops, traditional pubs that serve real ale and the nationally renowned Michelin-starred restaurant L'Enclume. A well-loved destination for hill-walkers, the region is full of excellent trails through stunning, unspoilt countryside. In addition, there is the Campbell Legend Bluebird Exhibition, Lakeland Motor Museum and Hunt Racecourse all in the near vicinity. With Windermere and Grange-over-Sands only a few minutes away, there's plenty for everyone to do.

Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

After being treated abysmally by 'Country Cottages' who we had regularly used previously, we discovered Sykes who had this cottage available. The cottage itself was the best of maybe 6 we have previously used in Cartmel.

The cosy cottage offered excellent accommodation in a very peaceful and relaxed setting but not to far to walk into the village . We were impressed by the traditional style of the cottage.

The cottage was in an ideal situation for the races and the village. It was the first time my husband and I have actually been anywhere without getting lost! The cottage was clean and everything in place. Would definitely recommend it to others.

We had a fantastic time at Byways, in fact I would say it's one of the best holidays we have ever had. The cottage is beautiful, cosy, well-equipped and comfortable. We enjoyed several walks from our doorstep but also had lots of days out around the Lakes. All in all a wonderful holiday. I had been a bit worried about the weather and we had taken books and DVDs in case we couldn't go out- it turned out to be nice and we were out every day, I was secretly a bit disappointed as I would have quite liked to have been rained in at Byways!
Mr McTigue

December 2010
My Mum and I stayed in Byways for a three night break. The cottage was very cosy and clean. I spoke to the owner prior to our stay who was very helpful and specifically mentioned that due to the cold weather we were to put the heating on as often as we liked. The cottage was great value for money and Cartmel is a gorgeous villlage with lots of very high quality pubs. I would recommend Byways cottage as a fantastic base to visit this beautiful part of the country.
December 2011
The cottage was exactly as described . Cartmel is a lovel village with plenty of places to eat and drink on your door step. Could not fault the cottage had everthing that we needed
August 2015
This was a very pleasant cosy cottage in a quiet area, off a minor road and yet reachable to the centre of the village on foot. It was clean and warm. There is a bus stop nearby to get into town such as Kendal (one and a half hours) for about 3.80p. The tV and video are good. There is a shower, but no bath but it was fine. You park outside the cottage.
Mrs Mitchell
February 2016
Very clean and comfortable cottage. The owner was easy to contact and very helpful.
July 2010
A great stay, it is a quaint little cottage that is just lovely if you are after a quintessential stay in the Lake District. The bathroom is newly renovated and stunning. The Kitchen is fully equipped and has everything you need. The bedrooms are big enough that you don't feel crammed. There is 5 pubs within a stones throw and a Spar if you need some essentials. There is also a BT Openzone available if you need some WiFi. It is south of the lakes and for the area priced very reasonably. Sykes cottages were quick and helpful with the reservation and the owner bent over backwards to ensure our stay was perfect. There is even a Michelin Star restaurant down within walking distance. Thank you for an excellent stay!
June 2010
A small but quaint cottage with all the trappings of home, ideal for a short holiday in the heart of the nicest village in England.
