Outstanding!!! The owner met us at the door with a tour of the property and info on the local area. The location is secluded and off of the road. Plenty of places to be alone or share a great time with friends or family. Centrally located for all the golf our group wanted to play! Could not have worked better for us. We have already recommended this to others!

It was our second visit to Castleton. It was lovely to get the family all together for the weekend, it was thoroughly enjoyed by all. There was plenty to do and plenty of space to do it in.

A fantastic property for a group that can fill it. We got excellent weather, and spent lots of time outside, but even if the weather had been poor, the house and all its facilities would have ensured we had a great time. It's like having a small hotel all to yourself, which isn't too surprising as that's what the property used to be. The fact it's dog friendly was an added bonus.

There was ample space indoor and outdoor for the children and dogs. Every bedroom was large and ensuite. Plenty of activities provided, table tennis, table fooball, snooker, board games and jigsaws. The good sized flat lawn enabled us to play badminton, football, cricket and rounders. Full range of domestic utilities. The owner very friendly and helpful.

It was very spacious with plenty of public rooms and all bedrooms were en-suite. Excellent central heating system. Lots of things to keep everyone amused - snooker, table tennis and plenty of board games. It was a family weekend to celebrate my husbands birthday and a great time was had by all.

Castleton House is a fantastic house especially for a large party (we were 10 in total plus 3 dogs). All the bedrooms were enormous with lovely furnishings in keeping with the house and spacious en suite bathrooms. The roomy living accommodation meant that we were never on top of each other and with plenty of entertainment from the billiard room, table tennis and board games, we were never short of things to keep us amused. The house was everything we had hoped for and more, a really enormous place with delightful furnishings and within easy reach of some interesting and beautiful places to visit from lovely beaches to historic houses; Angus has it all!

Wonderful size property with lots of room to spread out. Lovely features such as original fire places, sash windows and a wonderful staircase. Billiard room kept many occupied in the evenings whilst others enjoyed the peace of the drawing room. All bedrooms have their own en-suite (baths with showers over), these are spacious and all in our party of 10 slept well. As there is no pub within walking distance, the Bar had plenty of use, it's generously equipped with plenty of fridge space. The grounds are beautiful with plenty of areas for kids to play and explore. We used the external caterers recommended the owner for a 50th Birthday celebration. We would highly recommend these to anyone looking to have a special meal during their stay.

Impressive building with loads of room for 5 adults, 3 kids and a dog. It was so big we had to ring a gong for dinner so everyone could hear around the house. Perfect place for exploring. Amazing house, none of us wanted to leave.

The house was amazing. The house is huge and well decorated and furnished, we felt at home instantly. The bedrooms are very spacious with a shower and bath in each, and the beds are very comfortable. The living areas are ideal. The main living room has enough very comfortable sofas and chairs to seat 12 with just a coal fire, perfect peace. The kitchen was well equipped, and had more than enough space for helpers when it come to the cooking!

We loved the house, the red squirrels, the chickens, the snooker table, the location, the log fire and the bar! Lots of fun had by all.

With the en suite bathrooms we had plenty of room so we weren't on top of each other all the time. We all had a great time, house was brilliant for a family get together, snooker room a great hit, but with all the snow the conservatory was a bit too cold to use, would be great in the summer though! the bar was brilliant and the log fires made for cosy evenings.

Castleton house was a fantastic venue for my 50th birthday. Everyone who came commented on what a special and memorable weekend it was, from the comfort of the house and surrounding grounds, to the wonderful dinner provided. The owners were very warm and hospitable. I would highly recommend Castleton House as a venue for either a celebration or a get together with family or friends.

The landlords are very nice people, they welcomed us in the property and they were very helpful with any request we could have. They even managed to give us a bagpipe player's phone number so we could organise a concert in the lounge!

Sometimes you stumble upon a place that you just want to keep to yourself. You don't want other people finding out about it in case you want to come back. Castleton House is such a place, but in fairness to the owner, I'm writing a review to say it is quite simply a perfect holiday property for a large party. Whatever the weather, whatever the occasion, this fabulous country house will provide you with a memorable experience. I spent a week in the house with a party of 11 and two dogs - three generations of my extended family. The house is enormous - it was previously a country house hotel - with six en suite bedrooms and a variety of public rooms. It's grandeur is slightly faded, but this added to its charm, and made us feel extremely comfortable, as did David the owner who was on hand to deal with any issues or advice, but left us in complete privacy. We had fabulous weather and spent plenty of time enjoying the extensive gardens, but having a full size snooker table, TV room, table tennis, table football, a huge number of books scattered around the rooms and a multitude of games meant we'd never have been stuck for ways to amuse ourselves. All of us absolutely loved our stay. It was like having our own hotel, all to ourselves. I hope we'll be back.

12 of us took this old country house for a Golfing week in Scotland and could not have found anything much better. The facilities were good, snooker table made a wet morning very enjoyable, enough space to do what you wanted on your own or in groups and not getting under one another's feet. We had Snooker, Bridge and Canasta all taking lace at the same time without disturbing one another. And although we are all over 60 some of us managed an enjoyable game of table tennis. As I was cook for the week the Kitchen facilities were very important and they were excellent with everything you required. Even down to the morning fresh egg collection from the Hen Roost in the Garden (With permission of our host of course) Yes we had a few minor issues with a curtain Rail in one bedroom and following a massive storm, some rain getting in one room at the Bay Window., but these type of things you might expect of an old house and I am sure will be rectified. All in all a great week and I am sure we may return.

Great weekend was had by all. Facilities and rooms first class. Would definitely go back to Castleton House.

We were already excited about trip as website pictures looked great but it was big wow factor when we actually arrived and were shown round. All bedrooms were lovely and good sized drawing room but real star of the show was the dining room with full sized bar with all the glasses, beer/wine cooler cabinet and even an ice machine! Plenty of games for everyone from big snooker room to table tennis, bar football and too many board games to count. Made to feel very welcome and can't wait to find an excuse to go back.

This is a fabulous traditional country house, really cosy and with plenty of character - an excellent venue for family group or friends planning a holiday. The public rooms are many and spacious and the collection of books, boardgames, jigsaws and activities (table tennis) as well as TV/Sky Wi-fi and intenet access are enough to keep everyone entertained. We enjoyed a week celebrating a family birthday - the bar area in the dining room was an added bonus. The kitchen was well equipped and was also suitable for use by external caterers. We appreciated being able to bring our 2 dogs and they enjoyed the extensive gardens. David made us very welcome and was keen to help ensure we enjoyed our stay.

The property is very Downton Abbey and the owner was lovely. Can't fault it and would love to go back soon. It was perfect in every way. Felt like home from home.
