Cherry Tree Cottage Family Cottage description

Holiday home
In the centre of the rural village of Sheriff Hutton, is this spacious detached bungalowwhich offers comfortable home-from-home accommodation. With large bay windows and an open fire in the spacious living room, traditionally styled bedrooms and a pleasant, sunny rear garden and patio, this property is full of timeless charm. Lovely views of the Sheriff Hutton Castle ruins add to the atmosphere of the property. Local amenities are plentiful and close by, whilst visitors can enjoy the attractions offered by a wide selection of local towns such as Bridlington, Hornsea and Scarborough.

The peaceful village of Sheriff Hutton is located amidst the gentle hills between York and Malton. Steeped in history, this lovely little settlement has a ruined castle which was built in 1382 and housed the English King Richard III until 1483. In addition to this is the even older Norman church dating from 1100 and still retains its enclosed pews today. One of the two village pubs dates back to the 17th Century, and both establishments serve food. This charming little village, set around the small square, is just 11 miles from the city of York and is also within easy driving distance of the North York Moors steam railway in Pickering and the East coast seaside towns of Bridlington, Hornsea and Scarborough. Whitby and Harrogate are also within an hour's drive, adding to the diverse range of activities available in the exciting area.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

Cherry Tree Cottage is a lovely property set in a sweet village with great views. It had everything and more that I have come to expect from holiday cottages.

It was very well equipped and comfortable, a real home from home. Also, the local bus into York was very useful.

Everything supplied that you could possibly need and much more comfortable than hiring a static caravan so would definitely opt for renting a cottage again. Nice and private and can come and go as you like. Owner very organised with details supplied of how to use boiler etc. Very impressed!

Great location and close to the historic city of York. Loved the ruined castle behind the garden and the very interesting church. Visited lots of places in Yorkshire including the Air Museum in Elvington, and Thicket Priory in Thorganby. There are good pubs in the area serving great food and Yorkshire beer.

Very pretty house in a lovely village. It was great to have the castle ruins and sheep over the back fence. Very interesting historical church which was welcoming and friendly. Easy access to York. Lots of information left in house about what to see and do.

A comfortable and well equipped cottage in a lovely setting. The lounge was especially comfortable with a large TV and lots of literature about the area. Plenty of everything in the kitchen and an abundance of toiletries in the bathroom. The local shop is only two minutes away and stocks practically everything one could need.

Our third year in a row! Christmas could not be better! Wonderful cottage, fantastic location! Many thanks to the lovely owner who provided a Christmas tree and present!
Mr Orr-Laycock
April 2011
Pub across the road, wine store next door but one, off-road parking, beautiful weather, sitting out in the back garden, sipping a glass of wine, reading the Times and glancing up to the ruins of Sherrif Hutton castle at the bottom of the garden. God must be an Englishman with apologies to Delderfield. Bottom line is I would recommend this to anyone wanting to be close to York, yet have the Howardian Hills and North York Moors close at hand. There has been a lot of effort put into this property. All in all, very pleasant.
Miss Phillips

August 2010
A very spacious cottage with a nice view of Sheriff Hutton Castle from the back garden. Nice new en-suite, kitchen basic but a good size, spacious lounge. Great location for exploring the area. Good pub across the road with quality, not cheap, food. Easy access to York with park and ride at Rawcliffe bar. Also good for Pickering, North Yorks Moors and Rievauly Abbey. I think we will visit again, one week did not even come close to enough to see everything in the area.
Mr Vaughan
September 2010
The house was like home from home - quiet and peaceful but with easy access to tour around and lovely walks in the area as well. Easy drive to the Park and Ride at Monks Cross and to the shopping centres. Plenty of places to eat in the surrounding area.

A very well appointed property, spacious and homely, situated in a very picturesque village, overlooking a castle with history related to Richard III. A beautiful setting. We had a super Christmas break and will certainly return again.

The village of Sheriff Hutton was just as we anticipated, very small and friendly. The Highwayman P.H. was very friendly and the meals were excellent. In all, we just didn't want to come home.
Mr Dawson
December 2008
'The Highwayman' restaurant was child friendly with nice food.
August 2014
Absolutely fantastic property in a lovely little village. Although there are not many shops in Sheriff Hutton to choose from, it is within easy access of supermarkets and the Park and Rides into York city. For the children, there is a small playground, as well as the ruined castle behind the property, which has a public footpath running around its perimeter. The castle is privately owned, but the owner allows visits by prior arrangement if you phone him. The property is very well equipped with everything you could want or need during your holiday. It's very well maintained, nicely furnished, and everything was spotlessly clean. We had a brilliant stay at Cherry tree Cottage and will be booking this property again for a future holiday.
December 2011
When we saw the ruins of the castle at the bottom of the garden we knew we had chosen well, even before we went inside the cottage! The house is in an excellent location, right opposite the pub, 2 minutes walk from the well stocked general store, 10 minutes walk from the fascinating and welcoming old church and within good striking distance of everything we wanted to see. It is extremely comfortable, warm and well equipped with a lovely light lounge, efficient kitchen and plenty of room for families (although there were only 3 of us!) The garden is a good size and it was very pleasant to be able to sit on the patio and enjoy the view of the castle in the evening sunshine. All in all we had a great week and will definitely visit again one day.
November 2010
The service was excellent, the house was very comfortable everything you require is there and more. It is situated in the centre of the village opposite the Highwayman Inn which serves meals, postoffice and shop around the corner. There is a lovely walk up to the Castle from the side of the house. The people in the village are very friendly.
