August 2016
Beautiful location on a working farm, with the nicest hosts that you could ever wish for. Lots to see and do in the area. Kids had a brilliant time playing football with the farm dogs, helping with the milking and generally getting involved in farm life. The property has everything you need for a self-catering holiday. Garden and games room are fabulous, our teenagers loved the space and freedom. And the icing on the cake? - the owners and the dogs. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone of any age.
Mr Bowles

We received such a warm welcome on our arrival, which was quite late in the evening, with a cup of tea which was much appreciated. Nothing was too much trouble and we had two adorable dogs who helped out with our breakfast. Collecting the fresh eggs was a treat too. The property was within easy reach of all towns including a day out to Dublin. Looking forward to returning next year.

The hosts were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The cottage is in a good position for exploring Carlow, Waterford, Laois and Tipperary. Children would be well catered for here with the games room and garden. We had a wonderful holiday.

April 2015
We had a wonderful time at Cherryfield. The owners made our stay a magical experience for the children, who enjoyed feeding the hens and collecting the eggs each morning, seeing the calves fed and the cows milked. We were made to feel right at home. The Kilkenny area had so much to offer and we were never short of something to do. We would love to return to Cherryfield.
Mr Waymont

We were made to feel at home at Cherryfield and part of the family. A lot of thought and consideration has been put into ensuring that you have a lovely holiday. Fantastic location and a super place to relax.
Mr Banister
May 2015
You will not find more friendly and hospitable hosts. We were greeted like long lost relatives and told to treat both the cottage and farm grounds as our own. The cottage was very comfortable but it has kept its old world farmhouse charm but has been fitted with the mod cons. Everyone we met was very friendly.
Miss Vaughan
June 2015

We had a great week in this lovely part of Ireland and would certainly recommend Cherryfield to friends and family.

Very genuine, friendly and helpful owners. The furnishing and interior designed cottage with its pleasant fresh feeling to it. The farmhouse with its animals including their lovely football playing dogs and the big tractor to test drive. The daily fresh organic eggs from the happy chicken. The homemade Irish brown bread and Irish muffins from the owner. Quiet location but within a short drive shops are available. Very peaceful and loving atmosphere all around the property. Good vibes!

Everything about Cherryfield was just fantastic and the house was very clean. The farm was great and the added bonus for the older kids was the WiFi and the play station. I would recommend this house to anyone and we will definitely stay again.

September 2015
This was our second visit to Cherryfield. We had such an amazing holiday, our little boy was so excited to be going back to his farm (as he calls it). All of the facilities are great and once again it was ideal for us to be able to visit our family and friends, as well as being able to have a relaxing time enjoying the views and enjoying the facilities of the farm. We are already looking to book our third visit which will be next year, we really can't wait to get back over.
Mrs Hill
May 2014
We have had a wonderful time. The family was very friendly, helpful and aimed to do everything to make our stay as pleasant as possible. We had the feeling of being family members from the beginning - started with a warm welcoming. Our children were allowed to feed and to milk the cows. They loved to ride the tractor- what a unforgettable experience! The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed as well as being a great base for touring. Lots of interesting things to see and do. We can really recommend this cottage!
Mr Norbert
September 2014
The farm's life was very interesting for all of us (children and adults), and a special bonus for the kids. All the people there were really kind with us, really helping us to organize our visits or even to obtain a voucher for a flight! This cottage is very nice and well located, in a very quiet environment, but really, most important is the human qualities and the kindness of the owners family!
Mrs Farrell
February 2015
The owners were very welcoming and couldn't do enough for us during our stay. The house was comfortable and in a lovely environment. There were lots of places to visit in the County of Kilkenny and it was just over an hour from Dublin. We would definitely consider staying there again.

August 2014
We enjoyed every minute of our week at Cherryfield. The cottage is charming, with a lot of character. It is well-equipped and comfortable, with modern amenities. Being on a working farm was a plus for us - we loved it! The location is great, peaceful and rural but close to Kilkenny (a real treat-don't miss the castle) and the famous Rock of Cashel. We had day trips to Cork and the coast around Wexford and Waterford, and the thought-provoking Famine Workhouse Museum at Donaghmore. The nearby town of Durrow has very grand Durrow Castle with beautiful gardens in which you are free to wander, and a top restaurant for a special meal. Grocery shopping is a breeze at Ballyragget, just a few minutes away. Cherryfield has a large garden if you just want to relax and take in all that country ambience. The owners of Cherryfield are perfect hosts, helpful, friendly and welcoming. We felt very much at home here.

September 2016
We made our first visit to the south of Ireland this week and it was most fortunate that we were able to book in at Cherryfield Cottage, Ballyragget, Co. Kilkenny. The cottage is lovely and cosy, home away from home, with 3 bedrooms and 2 perfect bathrooms, fully loaded kitchen, washer & dryer, great dishwasher...just all the comforts. BUT the best reason for staying here are the fantastic hosts, Breda and Liam. We've been staying at self catering properties since 1994 and never have we had such an excellent time with the owners, They make you feel so good to be staying there that you want to take them home with you! Yes, thanks to Breda and Liam, we enjoyed our stay incredibly so (and even though it seemed to go by in the blink of an eye.) We can wholeheartedly recommend this property to anyone! Thanks Breda, thanks Liam! Helpful Hint: If you do sure and bring some lovely little dog treats for the incredible Rover and Buster...they'll show you around the grounds, across the road where the chickens live and they'll only want a treat or 12 for their efforts!!! We shall miss you all.

We had a wonderful holiday at Cherryfield, Our hosts met us on arrival and shared a bottle of wine with us. Their hospitality, warmth and genuine care was greatly appreciated by us throughout our holiday, they called to ask if we were comfortable and if there was anything we required. The owner demonstrated for us his amazing farm machine inventions. We will always remember our cosy cottage nestled in the heart of Norman territory. Definitely a wonderful experience and highly recommended by us.

Perfection! This is a fantastic place to stay. It's an oasis of calm situated in idyllic peaceful countryside. The cottage itself has a lovely warm atmosphere, a real home from home. It is extremely well equipped, very comfortable and tastefully decorated. The garden has an amazing summer house great for relaxing with a book or a glass of wine. The location is ideal, it's within a 5 minutes drive to the village with supermarkets, pubs and local amenities. The owners were absolutely lovely. They gave us such a warm, friendly welcome and were so kind to us. This made our stay and we will definitely be back. We would certainly recommend this cottage, we loved it!
August 2016
I can 100% endorse what other reviewers have said. This place is simply amazing - Breda and Liam are the nicest, warmest, most genuine hosts you could wish for. The cottage is comfortable, well-equipped and spotless and the gardens are wonderful. Our two teenage boys had the best time ever helping Liam on the farm, playing football with the fantastic dogs - none of us wanted to leave. We will be going back next year. Judging by the number of guests returning, looks like a busy 2017 at Cherryfield! Perfect location, perfect accommodation and perfect hosts.
September 2016
We chose to stay a week at Cherryfield Cottage, Ballyragget as it was conveniently located to Castle Durrow where we were attending a wedding ceremony. What we initially chose as a matter of convenience turned out to be a real gem. The cottage is cosy and simply furnished with all modern conveniences on a farm owned by Liam and Breda Murphy. It would be rated as good but what makes it excellent, is the warm hospitality we enjoyed from Liam and Breda. This included complimentary freshly baked bread on our arrival, accompanied by apple pie and cream. The invitation to collect fresh farm eggs from the chicken coop each day at no extra cost. The very helpful advice given by Breda on visiting local attractions and the Wicklow mountains. Liam driving to Castle Durrow at 10.30 pm to kindly collect two of our party from the wedding being unable to drive and my wife being allowed to assist Liam in milking the cows in the Dairy. The experience was nothing short of excellent.

Thanks to the wonderful hospitality provided by owners Breda and Liam, we had a fantastic stay at this lovely cottage, which was comfortable and cosy. Arriving fairly late on our first day, we were met with a very warm welcome from Breda (and two lovely dogs!) who proceeded to show us all the facilities and even provided a delicious supper with home cooked pie so that we didn't have to worry about cooking or food shopping, a lovely touch. We woke to nothing but the sound of birdsong each morning and loved being able to collect our own fresh eggs from the chickens. The cottage is very well equipped with all you need in the kitchen including dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer etc. Living room is lovely with comfy sofas, fireplace and sky TV / DVDs etc. Breda kindly provided a travel cot, high chair and baby bath for our young daughter and our five year old visiting nephew absolutely loved playing with the dogs in the enormous garden (complete with mini stone castle!). Wonderful people and a wonderful property, we wouldn't hesitate to book again next time we're in the area.
April 2016
Wonderful Cottage - Most Generous Hosts - Excellent Location - Happy Holiday!!! Where do I start - the welcome from Breda and Liam Murphy was lovely with freshly baked bread and a pie along with some nice tea. Cherryfield is a lovely cottage which is presented beautifully with everything you might need. Breda and Liam were always ready to help with anything as well as offering advice on travel, shopping, restaurants and things to do in the Kilkenny area. We felt like members of the family and very much enjoyed being in Ireland, making many new friends along the way. We will return (many times) and thoroughly enjoyed staying at Cherryfield and meeting the Murphy family. Thank you.

June 2016
We spent our 55th Wedding Anniversary at this beutiful cottage, the host Breda was absolutely fantastic, nothing was to much trouble for her, she is so helpful, and also spent a lot of her valuable time showing us around their lovely farm, we had fresh eggs from the chickens on the farm, you can go anywhere on the farm, however I would suggest that children are supervised. There is such a lot to do whilst you are there and the cottage has to be, in our opinion, the best ever in Ireland. It's got everything you could wish for and Breda and husband Liam are so friendly and helpful. Would we go again..........most definitely and we have booked already for next year Great place at the right price.
June 2016
Breda and Liam are fantastic hosts - couldn't ask for better. This is a lovely cottage on a working farm, with a supermarket just a few minutes away in Ballyragget. We found it a great location with places of interest within an hour's drive at all points of the compass.
May 2016
We booked this cottage accommodation as part of a week long biking trip through Ireland to the Ring of Kerry and Wild Atlantic Way. We stayed for three nights here to take in the gorgeous countryside and Kilkenny itself. The cottage is located within easy driving distance of Kilkenny, but is set in peaceful and tranquil countryside. The quietness at night was what we all craved. The accommodation is fully kitted with 'mod-cons' and one of the bedrooms is also en suite. It is spacious and ample. The residents also have free use of the substantial gardens which includes a games room in the former stable yard. The owners (Breda and Liam) were exceptionally welcoming and helpful, and their two lovely dogs were doted on by us during our stay. We were able to light the wood burning stove which simply added to the comfort level! I would highly recommend staying here.
April 2016
Where do I begin? Without doubt, this has been the nicest holiday cottage / self catering experience that I have ever had. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed like family by the lovely Breda Murphy. Our trip from Mid Wales with a 16 month old was long and tiring to say the least, and when we arrived, food, drink and the most delicious homemade apple pie was provided so that we didn't have to worry about preparing food for our first night. Every detail is thoughtfully presented, and you will want for nothing when you stay. Fresh eggs are available if you collect yourself from the hen house, and everything you need is available in the house. The farm is a working dairy farm, and you are welcomed to wander around and see what goes on. My little daughter was so taken with the young calves and the cows being milked, collecting the eggs from the chickens and playing with the farm dogs. I can't recommend this place enough, anyone who stays here is guaranteed a warm, relaxing and memorable holiday. My only criticism is that we had to leave to come back home! We shall return.
January 2016
We received wonderful Irish hospitality from Breda and Liam when we notified them that we would be unable to spend our holiday at Cherryfield as planned due to problems we encountered during Storm Desmond. They immediately offered to meet us at the train station if we were able to get there from Co Kerry and to return us to the station at the end of our stay. In addition they offered to take us to purchase groceries for our ever hungry teenagers for the duration of our stay. Although Breda was working on the day of our arrival a lovey afternoon tea was awaiting us and the table was set beautifully. The beds were comfortable and the cottage was spotless. The boys in particular (15 & 8) loved the games provided for their entertainment. When extended family we hadn't previously met came to visit us Breda once again provided morning and afternoon tea for our visitors. Liam and Breda treated us like family and made Cherryfield a wonderful oasis of peace and calm after the disasters in Co Kerry.

After a fantastic stay last year we returned again this year but for longer.... What a welcome, it was like coming home to visit family. The property and settings have everything covered, there were four of us in our group, mother with mobility issues, typical teenager who hides away, a pre teen who wants attention and me the driver!! We thought this might me the last time i would be able to drag my teenager away on holiday, but at the end of two weeks his comment was.... 'can we come back again soon?' My mother finds it so easy to move around the property as it is on one level apart from the step into the kitchen. My pre teen is kept busy with the dogs, chickens, horses, games room and Breda in the garden! Then there is me.... Well if everyone else is happy.... so am i. Sat in the sun in the garden, beautiful surroundings with plenty of birdsong.
November 2015
Clean, comfortable and well equipped. Great location for day trips to Kilkenny, Waterford or Cashel. Take time to explore the back roads too. On our trip we stayed at three different cottages and I could say the same for all of them. But, our stay at Cherryfield was special! I had spent summers on a dairy farm in my teens and it brought back memories. And you can't beat going out to visit the chickens to bring in fresh (very fresh) eggs for breakfast. Most special was the host's efforts to make us feel welcome and to be sure our time there was a great experience. We have returned to the States and feel like we now have cousins in Ireland.
June 2015
Warm welcome from firstly Liam and then Breda who showed us around and introduced us to not only the cottage but also other areas of their farm. Home made scones and cake to help us settle in. Cottage is spacious, clean and very homely. There was also a lovely garden to spend time in and other activities for youngsters. This property is well situated to enjoy not only South East Ireland but also has easy access to other parts of the country. Living on a working farm was a most enjoyable experience and one that I would guess young children would find a wonderful adventure. We had a truly lovely holiday made all the more enjoyable because Liam and Breda made us feel so welcome. We would most certainly recommend this holiday cottage to family and friends.
July 2015
Recently stayed at this wonderful house on a lovely farm. From the day we arrived we got a very warm welcome with the brew on soda bread and apple tart with cream. I visited the farm a long with my brother mum and nephew we enjoyed every minute of the holiday. The fresh eggs in the morning were delightful I will definitely use this location again and highly recommend it. Thank you ?
April 2015
Our week started with a warm welcome, lit fire, fresh scones and cakes and the kettle on the boil. We felt so much at home. The children loved their time on the farm and want to go back. We were never short of things to do in and around Kilkenny and the surrounding counties. We could have spent another week there easily. The cottage was comfortable and had everything we needed - if there was anything else we needed, we only had to ask. I'd recommend Cherryfield to any travellers heading to Ireland looking for relaxation and Irish charm. A car is a must.
July 2015
This property was perfect for our holiday, with the owners, Breda & Liam, being very welcoming and helpful. The dogs were very welcoming too. It was just like visiting family friends ! The property is well furnished with everything needed for a good family holiday and the views of the countryside were brilliant. It was perfect for relaxing break, but at the sane time well located for visiting Ireland at its best. We will certainly be going back again.
June 2015
This was our first stay in Southern Ireland and we'd never heard of Ballyragget before. However, the cottage was easy to find as Breda supplied good directions... You won't find more charming, welcoming or friendly hosts than Breda and Liam. Despite having to run their farm, we were greeted like old friends with a roaring fire and the table already set with homemade bread, cake and jam and some fresh eggs when we arrived in the late evening after about a 90 minute leisurely drive from Dublin Port. The cottage was originally the family home of several generations of the family who had farmed the land before Liam and Breda built their current home on the side of it. It has retained the traditional and rustic nature you would expect of a farmhouse, but has all you need in the way of home comforts. It was clean throughout, comfortable and well stocked with pots, pans, cutlery etc. Everything you needed was in a cupboard somewhere. Plenty of books and games for children as well as SKY TV, DVD player etc. The cottage also has Wi-Fi but was a little patchy in some places of the cottage. As you would expect with it being on a farm, it is out in the countryside and is quiet and peaceful. Wake up in the morning to the sound of the cows and chickens. Liam and Breda told us to treat the surrounding gardens and land as their own and feel free to wander as we wished - in my case I got a tour of the farm and enjoyed chatting with Liam about the farm, its history and his inventions. Their friendly approach was even displayed by their three dogs too ! The small village of Ballyragget is about a five minute drive away and has a small supermarket (which seemed to stock everything), a couple of "take away" outlets, petrol station and a few other small shops. Kilkenny is the nearest large town, about 20 minutes or so away and the castle there is well worth a visit. In summary, a very comfortable holiday accommodation, but the best asset are the owners.

April 2015
We were gifted a week in this delightful cottage as an anniversary present and brought our two small children (boys aged 3 and 5) and one set of grandparents. Our stay in this cottage has been fantastic. We were welcomed on arrival by home baked cake and scones and tea, and this pretty much set the tone for the whole week. Breda and Liam were attentive and welcoming without being intrusive. They made sure we wanted for nothing and made sure to point out all the amenities, including how the heating worked, where the extra fuel for the stove was to be found, and where the games room was. The also pointed the way to the hen run and invited the boys to check for eggs and enjoy eating any they found. For the children, staying on a real live farm was mind-blowing. They loved seeing the cows and calves, loved being around the dogs and looking for eggs, and especially loved the attention they got from both Breda and Liam. It has to be said though, Liam was the star of the show. He allowed the older of the two boys to help at milking time, making sure the cow was letting down milk, (I hope she's recovered at this stage!) and when both of them were allowed to sit in the tractor when Liam went to feed the calves using his specially invented feeding contraption, he made two small friends for life. They were so happy to be allowed to help on a real farm (supervised by Daddy and Grandad of course) and will remember this holiday for years to come. The cottage itself was cosy and it was lovely to come back to it after a day of exploring or visiting whatever attraction was on the menu for that day. The older boy was sure to make it to the top of the castle in the garden every day though, just so as not to waste staying in a place with a castle in the garden. Having a gas barbeque set up outside the back door was a nice touch, and it got used several times during the week, because the weather was unexpectedly glorious for early April. We have had an awesome holiday, helped in no small measure by having such a comfortable base, perfect for exploring the local and not-so-local attractions. We visited the Rock of Cashel as well as Kilkenny and it's environs, and the cottage is the perfect place to start from for each of these. The roads around this cottage are also great for that early morning run, not too busy and a good mix of hills and flat sections. All in all, we'd heartily recommend this cottage to anyone, Breda and Liam could not be better hosts, and we've been very comfortable here. We would like to thank them for making us feel so welcome, and we'd love to visit again in the future.

We stayed here for a week over Christmas and it was immensely enjoyable. It's in the countryside, which is lovely and peaceful, and it's only a short drive to Kilkenny, which is a delightful city. Breda and Liam were very welcoming and friendly, we couldn't have asked for better hosts. The cottage has loads of room, with everything you'd need, including a cosy fireplace. We would definitely recommend Cherryfield to our friends, and we'd love to return.

We enjoyed erverything there:) We had a great time in this beautyful recently interior designer refurbished, stylish and charmy cottage. The bedrooms and bathrooms were like in a 5 star Marriot on ! The Lounge with the fireplace was romantic like those from the Boutique syle Bed & Breakfast guide. The kitchen and dining room was country Living style...absolutely lovely. We had a good time with the owner family, they were very friendly and helpful, if you need anything their there , without intruding your space. We loved the fresh organic eggs from happy chickens and the homemade irish brown bread and muffins too. It was a paradise for our son and ourselfs too; with the farm , the animals, the football playing dogs, the horses and the spacious country grounds with absolutely great vibes.Ideal location for sightseeings too, because its very central to many exhiting places to see.We will recommend it to our friends..good experience..great value.. and we look forward to come back soon .
