Christmas Cottage Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
Christmas Cottage is a detached cottage on the edge of the village of Glaisdale. The cottage has two double bedrooms, one with a TV and extra folding bed. There is a family bathroom, and downstairs, a kitchen and a sitting room with dining area and woodurner. Outside is a front patio area with furniture, and parking can be found on the roadside. Christmas Cottage is ideally placed for exploring this wonderful area, from the coast at Whitby to the beautiful countryside of the moors.

Area
Built in the 19th Century, Glaisdale village was an ironstone mining village. Today, it is a small and welcoming hillside village made up of attractive terraces of slate-roofed cottages, wide verges and greens that cling to the hillside on the western side of the dale, just south of the River Esk. At the eastern end of Glaisdale is Beggar's Bridge, the famous packhorse bridge built by Thomas Ferries in 1619. The River Esk itself affords excellent fly-fishing for salmon and brown trout and there are many picturesque walks to be had along its banks. Travelling slightly further afield will bring you to the historic town of Whitby and all the splendour of the North Yorkshire coast.

Region
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

Me and my partner stayed her in october last year for a long weekend with our small dog, we arrived late at night to the log burner lit which was lovely after the late night drive in icy conditions. The house is so cost and quaint, much bigger than expected from the pictures. The house is well equipped with a modern kitchen and bathroom. Living area is great for relaxing in front of the tele with the fire roaring. Bedroom was cosy, with a comfortable bed. We had a nice walk around the very small village and stopped for a drink and snack in the local pub, which was very quiet. It was about a 15-20 minute drive into whitby, which wasnt the best route the roads are very winding but well worth it for the visit to the cottage. We really enjoyed are stay here it was just what we were looking for and we will be returning this year hopefully. Owners of the property seemed lovely and went out of their way to accomodate us, the lady was very friendly! We are looking forward to returning soon. Thank you

We liked the peace and quiet and the close proximity of some very beautiful walks. The local shop and butchers were both within a few minutes walk and were welcoming and helpful. The views from the cottage were wonderful and the sound of owls at night added to the country feel. We arrived on a fairly cold and wet day but the cottage heating made it a very cosy and welcoming place to be; the log burner added the final touch of home comfort.

We were looking for a complete getaway from it all, and that's what we got with Christmas Cottage. Would definitely recommend and it was a real downer having to leave.

A beautifully located cottage that had everything you needed with a very helpful and friendly owner. Lovely local shop/ post office a couple of minutes walk away and Arncliffe Arms just a short drive or a steep walk; best Sunday lunch ever!

Christmas Cottage is ideal for a couple or small family. Well positioned within Glaisdale village, near to the local shop and butcher's. Fantastic views of the Dale and walks directly from the door. The property is also within easy reach of Whitby and other coastal treasures. Best of both worlds!

This was one of the best family holidays that we have had and we will be booking again. Five Stars for a five star cottage.

We enjoyed the cottage very much. It was great for walking along the Esk valley and for visiting Whitby and other coastal areas. As we went on holiday with two dogs the availability of local places to walk them every day was important to us.

The scenery from the Cottage was stunning, especially sat on the wall in the early evening with a GT. We had a lovely time and we were so fortunate with the weather. The Cottage is really well placed for exploring the surrounding countryside and coast. We enjoyed three first class meals at the local pub which was only a ten minute walk away. We would recommend this Cottage to anyone wanting to relax and get away from it all for a week.

Christmas Cottage is in a good location and has outstanding views. A very convenient shop and local butcher and a local pub which also serves meals . Lovely villages within a short distance. We particularly liked Lealhome and Egton . We can thoroughly recommend the Park and Ride scheme operating in Whitby as the parking in Whitby town is quite expensive, especially for long stay .

We had a lovely stay at Christmas cottage - a great, well-presented and comfortable cottage in beautiful surroundings. It was a nice touch to have a ready supply of wood for the log burner. It's very well situated for Whitby and the surrounding coast either by car- but even better by train from Glaisdale straight into the middle of Town and no parking hassles. We'd love to stay again!

The cottage was a fantastic location, lovely walks around and just a short car journey to the coast. The cottage is very comfortable, and the wood burner makes for a cosy evening.

A lovely and well maintained country cottage with beautiful views and village amenities nearby. The sun was out for the whole week we were there. We had our dog with us and had a choice of walks in the stunning countryside. The owners of the cottage were very friendly and helpful. Whitby and Robin Hood Bay weren't far away and we spent time there as well as walking along the coast exploring other smaller seaside towns and villages. It was a lovely way to experience North Yorkshire.

Beautiful cottage, everything was catered for, sumptuous furnishing, nothing had been forgotten, spotlessly clean. Location speaks for itself the views from the windows were just amazing. Would recommend this to any of our friends, and would certainly go back again. We met the owners who were very friendly. Thank you for lending us your cottage it was fabulous.

A well finished cottage in lovely quiet location. The wooden shutters gave it a nice homely feel, and the excellent wood burning stove and generous supply of logs were brilliant for cosy nights in. The owner was very helpful and friendly. We hope to return.

A comfortable little cottage in an ideal location for walking on the Moors, visiting nearby North York Moors Railway and Whitby. The cottage has been well modernised and has many attractive features and is best described as 'traditionally cosy.' The owners are very welcoming. We would return here without hesitation.

The cottage was perfect in every way. Christmas Cottage exceeded our expectations. The owner has paid every attention to detail. The cottage is immaculately clean, the furniture beautiful, careful thought has been given to what visitors will need, there is an abundance of reading materials, plus maps and guides to walks in the area. I cannot emphasise enough what a stunning place this is. Add to that the charming location, friendly villagers, excellent butcher, pub with decent food and great beer, stunning walks, easy access to beautiful coastlines (Runswick Bay is a must) and our break was perfect. We are already planning a return visit. If you are looking for perfection in every way, then you will not be disappointed with Christmas Cottage.

The cottage is in an excellent location being in a quiet village in good walking area. It is also very close to Whitby if you want to visit somewhere a little bigger. The pub in the village is well worth a visit with excellent food, and always a good veggie option on the menu. The cottage is decorated and furnished to a good standard, it stands on its own on a quiet road.

Lovely detached cottage at the end of Glaisdale high street. Very comfortable. Has all you could want (though no wi-fi which we found it nice to have a break from!) comfort wise. Great wood burner. Beds very comfortable. Kitchen well stocked with necessary equipment. Spotless on arrival. Allows pets. Kind and thoughtful owners. 2 mins from very handy village shop who were very helpful (eg reserved a newspaper for us), 10 mins from village pub which is ok. But would suggest Postgate Inn in Egton (50 minute walk or 2m by car) or Board Inn in Lealholm (40 min lovely walk, 1.75m by car). 10 mins to Glaisdale station albeit via a rather big hill when returning to the cottage. Recommend it if want access to great walks on Esk Valley and also the moors, plus seaside 9m away

This is a quaint 2 bedroomed cottage (not three as one review suggests) set in a pictueresque village and crammed with tasteful furnishings, decorations and all mod cons. If it's peace you're after then this is the place for you- but don't forget you are only about 9 miles from the East Coast; you can venture off for a 'busy' day on the coast and then retreat to your cosy, peaceful base. Or you can venture inland into the National Park and discover other little sleepy villages. Things to do...... you can do nothing! You can get into mountain biking, tennis (there's a tennis court about five minutes away)- free. You can bird watch from the stone patio. Walking is high on the menu. Thing is you can do all these things in any order, stop them when you've had enough, relax and start again. The local pub is about a half a mile away (Arncliffe Arms) which was pleasant and which did food. The next village Lealholm is about five mins away and there is an excellent gastro pub there. We went stocked to the gills with food and drink and were totally self sufficient so there was never any problem. Whether it's a romantic getaway or a full on family assault this cottage will accomodate you in five star luxury. It was essential that we could take our pet Border Terrier with us and was instrumental in the booking search. We will be returning again. We voted it the best holiday we have ever had. A well deserved five stars.

My wife and I stayed at Christmas cottage in June although our trip coincided with November like weather throughout the UK. This limited our walking and, with it, some of the purpose of our visit, but that was nobody`s fault. The cottage is well laid out with good views from the front. The rooms are well proportioned and both bedrooms (and beds) are extremely comfortable. Everything seemed to have been provided (except soap). Heating was either by very effective electric heaters or a log burner, with an ample store of logs etc. Nothing really to fault unless I mention that the outside area is quite small and the house is set quite high from the road (which is good) and therefore a bit of a climb from the car (which, for some, may not be so good) Impressed with the cottage and with Suzie, the owner, who was delightful. Glaisdale is a mining village which would not be first choice for a chocolate box cover but the dales and moors surrounding the village are world class beautiful, as are parts of the Nork Yorks coast. Would have been better without the rain though.
