Church View Beach Cottage description

Holiday home
Church View is a traditional terraced cottage in Whitby, close to the beach, harbour, shops and pubs. The accommodation here is over three floors, with a first floor double, a second floor double and a second floor room with adult bunks. There is a bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and WC on the first floor. Downstairs is a small kitchen, and a sitting room with dining area. Outside, an enclosed patio makes a great spot to dine alfresco, and there are parking facilities in various nearby roads or public car parks. With the sea just a few minutes stroll away, and the North York Moors National Park a short drive, Church View makes a comfy base, at any time of the year.

Whitby in North Yorkshire remains one of the regions most popular tourist hotspots, and with good reason. The town is at the mouth of the River Esk, and this old fishing port retains mush character in its winding streets and hidden alleys. There is a picturesque harbour, sandy beach and the famous Whitby Abbey. Close to other seaside destinations such as Scarborough, Staithes and Robin Hood's Bay, Whitby is also ideally placed for heading inland and exploring the beautiful countryside of the North York Moors National Park.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

I can honestly say that, Church View was the best equipped cottage I have been to. And I have been to many over the years.

This was a super town house apartment in a central location. There were numerous little welcoming touches including biscuits, milk and bread on our arrival which were such a welcome surprise and made us feel we were staying at a friend's. The beds were hugely comfortable, the whole house was very clean and well equipped and we couldn't have asked for more. Lovely holiday, lovely house, very happy.

The owner thought of everything ie bathrobes, slippers, toiletries, bread milk teabags coffee plus fresh sausage rolls cream cakes on arrival, heating was on we arrived (which is very rare we've gone to places in January had to spend ages figuring how to light the boiler!)

The owner made us very welcome and the apartment felt like home immediately. There was tea and coffee there for us to refresh ourselves before getting our supplies, which was a lovely thought. The view from the top floor double room was lovely. It will be our first place to check for availability in 2015.

Whitby is a great place and I loved it as much as the first time I came last year. The location of the cottage was very good, it was in a relatively quiet street but within short walking distance to whatever you need. The Abbey was only a ten minute walk although the steps took a bit of scaling!

The weather which, for Whitby, was very good. The accommodation was excellent, with a landlady who was very kind, thoughtful and available had there been a problem, which there was not.

The property was very welcoming with extra touches that all would appreciate, including milk for tea and coffee, some bread, eggs and butter for a snack, sweets, apples and chocolate biscuits - all above and beyond our expectations but very handy after a long journey! Decor was homely and traditional but reflected the rural quaint feel of the cottage and location without compromising on quality and amenities. Bathroom was well stocked with toiletries and towels and robes. Excellent on demand hot water and powered shower. Heating was adjustable and available on demand and the location was superb. This is my first time at this cottage, and I do not think I've had a better experience. My travel companions also all loved the place!

Beautiful cottage and delightful little homely touches. Milk, bread and biscuits were left for us when we arrived. The location was very central with local shops and the beach within walkable distance. We were told that parking may be a problem but we were always able to find somewhere nearby. We had a lovely stay. Thank you.

Wonderful little cottage above the owners fabric and craft shop in Whitby where everything had been thought of to make your stay like being at home away from home. We stayed with a 6 month old baby and despite the 14 steep external stairs to get into the cottage managed fine (and we quickly got the hang of get the pram up and down them), Once inside everything had been thought of, from the plate of baked goodies to revive weary travelers on arrival, to milk, eggs and butter in the fridge, staple foods in the cupboards, toiletries in the bathroom, really anything you may have forgotten to pack was there just in case, including slippers and dressing gowns. it was quite fabulous! Plenty of books and games provided for all ages. Both double bedrooms and the children's bunk room were bright and airy. T Lovely and sunny in the morning to get you moving. The bathroom was large with fast running, instant hot water which coped without issue with multiple adults showering in the morning. Central heating equally fast working and easy to use. Kitchen is compact but well equipped and again, we managed to get the buggy in the bottom of it. Decor was light and cheerful with some lovely handmade touches throughout. You could see a lot of thought had been put in to it. Sofas really are a lot larger and more comfortable than they looked in the photos. Central location made it perfect for both the East and West Cliff areas as well as the harbor front and super market/main high street. All only minutes walk with a pram (as was the bus and train station). We managed to get parked in the side street by the house using the parking passes provided without any difficulty. Made a lovely little home base for wandering around the town and exploring from and was equally pleasant to be in the house of an evening. A gem of a find. Would certainly use again if we were going to Whitby!
December 2012
The owner was lovely and had provided lots of extras we wouldn't have expected. She owned the fabric shop downstairs and was very helpful. The apartment was well cared for, very clean and comfortable, with everything we could have wished for. The property was 5 minutes walk from the harbour, and the same distance to a good supermarket. Lots of good local cafes/coffee shops. Good starting place for walks from Whitby and near to bus station for good bus service. The only drawbacks were the 14 or so steep steps up to the entrance -especially when unloading luggage. (We coped Ok with them, but some people might struggle) Parking was difficult to find when we first arrived, but that resolved itself in the evening. We used the bus to travel out of Whitby.

I love Whitby it has such a lot to offer and lots of lovely little lanes with great shops. Church vView is actually over one of these great shops 'Judith's Fabrics' which offers a lot to the sewing enthusiast. It is a great little cottage over three floors and has a very nice homely feel to it. I particularly loved the lounge with the bay window which was filled in so you could sit on it if you so desired. The church was oposite - hence the name - so a reasonable view from the lounge. I went to do some writing and also a little sightseeing. I managed all 199 steps up to the Abbey in one go which was great! Mind you I did have a practice in the morning but only managed 150 in one go that time. I wandered around the lovely shops purchasing an ariginal piece of artwork to take home. Back to the cottage which has all the comforts of a home from home. It was easy to prepare food in the kitchen which is not huge but was very adequate for my needs. The bedroom I used had a very comfy bed and duvet and some mornings I did not want to get up. I have to say that sleeping in that room on the road was a couple of times a bit noisy but that wouldn't stop me staying there again. The bathroom was very roomy and had both a bath and an overbath shower that was really lovely first thing in the morning. If I am going to be picky then I would recommend that there is a good sharp medium sized knife and there be some normal size forks as the ones in the cottage were dessert and I wasn't able to load them up when eating - but that is being really picky but I feel it's worth a mention. Would I stay again? Absolutely - so the fork issue isn't that bad just a little niggle.
