Area
Located at the foot of Buckden Pike, and close to the head of Upper Wharfedale, the idyllic village of Buckden is the perfect place to start exploring the wonderful scenery and pretty towns of this magnificent Dale. Much of Upper Wharfedale is owned by the National Trust and is composed of dry-stone walls and barns, important flower-rich hay meadows and valleyside woodland. Renowned for its walking routes, this region is home to the famous Dales Way, which passes close to Buckden Pike. The village itself is comprised of a cluster of stone built cottages and houses set around a traditional green. The village is also home to the famous 'Buck Inn' a Georgian coaching pub that retains much of its old charm.

Region
From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

February 2015
The house was perfect for a family requiring five comfortable bedrooms, two separate lounges and a large, warm kitchen seating ten people round a large kitchen table. It is sited in a lovely village with a welcoming pub and shop in wonderful walking country and scenery. What more does one want?

Liked the situation in the centre of the village and all its amenities. Also, the log burners in both rooms made it very cosy. The big kitchen table seated 11 of us very comfortably and the Aga was great for warming the plates and also drying our clothes after a thorough soaking whilst walking the Dales Way.

Mrs Tyler
May 2015
The cottage is in a great position for exploring the Dales by foot or car, and having a pub almost on our doorstep was very convenient. The cottage was large but still retained a cosy feel to it and was very comfortable.

Clifford House Farm was a very roomy, warm property. We had 4 children in the party who loved it. It had all that we required for a base to do walking etc. The Buckden area was a great location.
Mr Chisholm
June 2015
Liked everything! The Farmhouse has been refurbished and this was deeply appreciated by members of our party, especially the showers and kitchen. The pub next door is brilliant and the inhabitants friendly, plus the fact that any description of the Dales cannot do them justice.

The cottage was extremely spacious but cosy at the same time. Gorgeous kitchen had some good evenings around the huge table. Plentiful supply of logs for the fires. Excellent position in the village. Well situated for walks in the Dales.

Over 11 years of walking, this was the best property we have had. Clifford House had everything we required and the Buck Inn round the corner made you very welcome. Would certainly recommend it.

We liked the location - very quiet and peaceful.
Miss Poole
July 2012
The farmhouse was brilliant for us. There was plenty of space and we were all pleased with the layout and facilities. The closeness to the pike was fantastic and meant it was easy to walk the dogs. Food in the village was lovely and despite the weather we managed to get walks and picnics in. It was particularly good for families as when you were at one end of the house those at the other end couldn't hear any noise!
Mr Middleton
August 2011
The cottage was spacious even with the full complement of eleven people. The location offered outstanding views of the Yorkshire Dales with plenty of walks on the doorstep.

February 2010
Lovely big family kitchen, always warm, even in the bitter cold, due to the AGA style appliance. The real heart of the property. The house was big enough to have a holiday with lots of family members yet still enough room to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet. Superb walks straight from the house.
Mrs Kelly
August 2009
The house is ideal for a group holiday, spacious and comfortable. In a beautiful location with great walks from the village. We found both Sykes Cottages and the owner very helpful. There are some excellent pubs close by, with very good food (and good beer!) We'd be happy to stay at Clifford House Farm again, and will definitely be using Sykes Cottages for future holidays.

June 2009
A very enjoyable holiday. House situated in a beautiful part of Wharfedale with walks direct from door - choice of 3 completely different places to eat - all within 3 minutes walk and all meals absolutely delicious. House was large and comfortable - lots of olde character and everyone had a lovely time. Recommended to our friends and we will visit again, hopefully. - BRILLIANT!!!!
Mrs Dahlstrom

Great place, great company, great weather, great food and an excellent cottage. What more could anyone want?
Mr Snow
December 2007
The area, which is fantastic, the space in the house for a large group, the fact that the house felt warm on entry (due to the rayburn being on before we arrived), and that despite very cold weather, we were always comfortable. This is a house where you immediately feel at home, and the ability to have real fires is great.
Mrs Bownass
April 2008
The size of the property for 10 adults was ideal - a great location and it was lovely and warm.

The cottage was an excellent size for a party of 10, with plenty of room to escape from the 'madding crowd' if necessary. The kitchen was homely and an excellent place to congregate round the table. The location was beautiful. General cleanliness was excellent.

The ouse was excellent for our needs. Enough bedrooms to sleep us all. Games to keep us entertained, a week functioned kitchen. Wood and fire to keep us warm. From the village we were able to walk straight out of the house on to an excellent walk along the Dale tops without needing a car. Only downside - its a shame the pub has closed down - hope it reopens soon.

I stayed with my two sons, daughter-in-law and a bunch of Matt's mates from Australia. They were over for fell walking from pub to pub, with about 15 miles of rugged hill between. Jen and I were backup drivers, delivering to the departure point (pub) and collecting them from destination (pub), where they were watching the WorldCup Rugby tournament. Another reason for their visit. Jen was mummy to them all, while we both did the shopping daily, and enjoyed excellent pub lunches in the area. while the lads were hiking the hills. We took our turn in cooking the evening meal, in the well appointed kitchen while they watched more rugby on the TV. Plenty of room for the 8 of us, plus we celebrated Matt's Grandpa' 99 'th birthday with other family members including my other daughter-in-law, Granddaughter, and first wife. A very large kitchen table and two comfortable living rooms, one with a wood burner making a cosy warm atmosphere. Lovely place to stay: could not fault it, and two minutes from the Buck Inn. I would revisit if I could!

The house was very nice ,once we had got it warm and that took 3 day's,so not the best start to a holiday, with young grandchildren.Buckden is very nice, pity about the buck inn,as we were looking forward to eating there,no food and very run down. What we liked best was the wonderful kitchen ,and the very large table, and the only warm place to sit !.least never go there in the winter, unless the owner has told the caretaker to put the heating on.

October 2011
Lovely cottage. Very comfortable and clean. A garden would have made it slightly better as we had small children and couldn't use the patio which was at the end of the lane. It is however in a lovely peaceful spot right next to the Dales way and Buckden Pike. Easy driving distance to the Three Peaks, Skipton, Bolton Castle, Leyburn, Hawes.

There are several walks in the area for all ranging fronm the challenging to the afternoon stroll. The cottage as plenty of room the we found the second lounge a great escape from the TV. We been to this cottage twice never been disappointed, booked again for this year.

We rented this cottage for my husband's 60th birthday - We invited some of our friends. We all had the best of times. We had the birthday meal at the restaurant attached to the village shop - it was brilliant. Plenty of other places to eat in the village, all very good. Did some lovely walks straight from the house and must return some day to do some more. The cottage was huge - lovely family kitchen where we all ate breakfast together. Lovely bedrooms and 2 living rooms. so plenty of room for all. Recommend this cottage and hope to return, maybe for MY 60th!!
