The usual story, you pack early, you are ready early, then for some reason or another you leave late. Half way there the sat nav decides to lose itself on the A46 in Leicestershire so the old skills of looking at a map had to be used! Got near eventually but as it was teeming down we couldn't quite find the cottage, then out of the blue, a phone call from the owner with detailed route instructions, then a couple of minutes later we were there!
First impressions, very bright, very clean and a friendly welcome from the owner, quick guided tour and we moved in, tired, but please to be away on a well earned break!
Up at the crack of sparrows the next morning, after a very comfortable night, lovely sunny weather, and not a cloud in sight. A wander round the property produced a picture of a very recently renovated old barn very well done, although the cottage is on a busy road, not too much noise! The cottage is very near to Alton Tower, the reason we were there was to take our three grandchildren there which we did on the Wednesday, (Hint GO EARLY, VERY EARLY) the queues to get in are a tadge LONG, but as it was August Bank Holiday week what do you expect? The Leek are we found to be very pleasant and the locals very friendly, especially towards the kids. Lots of pubs to eat out in and the odd Farm Show here and there. A very nice week was enjoyed by all of us (Two adults & three kids) In fact I was sad to leave on the Friday Morning!
