We loved the cottage, it was so spacious and homely with a nautical theme throughout, and being so close to the wonderful harbour at Amble Warkworth. The owners made us feel very welcome. Amble itself is a brilliant little town for shopping; there is so much to see do in this part of Northumbria and the beaches and parks are beautiful all year round.
Mr Floyd

The warm welcome from the owner who had prepared a delicious home-made soup and bread for us. Amble is a lovely little fishing port and everyone is so friendly and helpful. Well stocked local shops. The beaches in the area are fantastic and you could walk for miles. Our dog loved swimming . Other places of interest are only a short distance away. Lindisfarne (Holy Island) is about 40 minutes drive . A most beautiful part of the country.

Very nice house in an enviable position so close to the sea,the pictures did not do the property justice. The welcome from the owner, was very warm and to find homemade soup and bread was a very nice touch. The vegetables grown on her allotment were delicious! We were so impressed with the house we are planning a return in the near future.

July 2013
The accommodation was first class and the owners were very welcoming and helpful. We have never been provided with fresh bread and fish before. They weren't intrusive but let you know they were there if you needed anything. We have had a number of self catering properties over the years and this rated one of the best, if not the best.
Mr Worsley
May 2013

Beautiful area, welcoming host, very helpful when we had a query. The most comfortable house I've rented. A good store of books to read, when I mentioned that I was enjoying reading one of the books the owner dropped me another by the same author.

We enjoyed the welcome we received - home made soup and home baked bread - lovely. House was very near to the beach - you can walk for miles each way along the beach and you can take your dog all year round as there are no summer restrictions. People were very friendly.

July 2012
As this is a new venture for the owner, we were very impressed in the way we were made welcome. After years of staying north of Morpeth we now regret that we had neglected this part of Northumberland. Amble is a very friendly little port.
Mr Fry
August 2012
A wonderfully warm welcome and a spacious and well appointed cottage, literally a few yards from the beach. The owners could not do enough to make us feel at home.
Mrs Bradley
July 2012
We couldn't fault the cottage, which had all the amenities you could want - including WiFi - and the friendliest owners you could hope for. Amble is an attractive village and an excellent base for touring. We particularly enjoyed a trip round Puffin Island.
October 2016
We stay at many self catering accommodations around the country throughout the year and this is most definitely one of, if not the best we have ever stayed at. The owners Sally and Sandy are both so welcoming and generous. Amble is a wonderful small town with a small yet busy fishing harbour. All the people in and around Amble are so friendly. Great for dogs (though not allowed on beach between May-Sept) many of the pubs etc around allow dogs in. If you like freshly cooked mussels then The Fish Shack is wonderful. The pier makes for a lovely evening/early morning stroll. Small safe sandy beach for kids to play on, rock pools too. All within very short walk of property. Walkworth with it's castle is within walking distance too, if you don't mind walking a bit further. Compass House has everything you could possible think of to make your stay comfortable, not to mention every kitchen gadget. We saw a seal in the harbour most evenings. We would love to return one day.

November 2014
We decided to book a cottage in this area of Northumberland for a change as this coast is amazing. Compass House is Home from Home, it has everything you need, plenty of space for 4 people and a dog/dogs. It is positioned 2 mins from the harbour and the beaches. The high Street is 5 mins walk away with everything you may need. It is positioned for some beautiful walks and we were lucky with the weather. The owner left us homemade soup and bread, which we had for our evening meal. We will definately be returning, so much to see and do.
November 2015
Lovely charming cottage, very dog friendly, everything you need for any length of stay we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, all fittings done to a high standard and very very comfortable the street itself is also very quiet. Lovely little beach about thirty seconds from the door and lots of great places to visit locally. Lots of nice places to eat as well thoroughly recommend the villages of Alnmouth and Warkworth and as usual for Northumberland the beaches are out of this world. Would recommend this cottage and its lovely owners to anyone.
April 2014
Warm welcome to immaculate cottage with great facilities including WiFi. Handily placed for local shops, amenities and beach! Parked right outside house each night no problems. Great out of season week in February when the roads are empty!
August 2014
Great cottage and an ideal base for Amble and Northumberland. Beach down road with lovely walks. Very pet friendly. Loved it.

October 2014
Had an awesome time at Compass House in Amble. Excellent beach. Walks on the door step both sides. Ideal base to travel up and down the coast. Village was excellent too.
December 2013
The outside pictures of Compass house don't do it credit,we had a great welcome from Virginia the owner who left us home made bread and soup and a supply of veg from her allotment. The inside is very comfortable, spacious and clean with a well fitted kitchen and large bathroom with bath and shower. An ideal location very close to the sea from either the front or back door!A short stroll from the town centre and close to all the facilities especially the pubs which allow dogs inside. We can't wait to return and would recommend it highly
August 2013
What a lovely house. On arrival Virginia was there to show us round. Everything you will need is there bbq, patio furniture etc. A bathroom to die for, large corner bath. Home made soup and bread provided, and a basket of veggies from the allotment. The house is yards away from beach and harbour. Pet friendly too. We had a fabulous week, will definitely be going back
September 2012
We had relentless rain during most of our stay in amble but enjoyed i nonetheless. The cottage was better equipped than we could have expected and Virginia could not have been more welcoming. Amble was a great base for exploring Hadrian's Wall, the lovely surrounding countryside and wonderful beaches - Bamburgh beach was wonderful even in the rain. I'd recommend the trip from amble harbour to Puffin island.
September 2012
Compass House in amble is a perfect dog-friendly, spacious, beachside retreat. The owners could not be more friendly and helpful, sandy beaches are on your doorstop, pubs and shops are a few yards away. And the surrounding coastline and countryside is breathtaking.
July 2013
From the outside it's not very attractive but inside it's a different story. There was nothing missing and our dog was very at home - as were we. It was near enough to amble shops but far away enough to be nice and quiet. ideal location. Will definitely return.
May 2013
Wonderfully renovated home that is warm super clean and comfortable and very well fitted out.The owner is realy helpfull. The beach is only minutes away as is the local shop and coop. the sunday market is a great place to wander. I and my dogs enjoyed our time there and highly recomend to anyone
November 2012
Compass House is that dog friendly home from home that you seek as a pair of avid Vizsla dog-walkers. We only had a weekend (wish it was longer) but the Amble location is a centre for a wide variety of walks. The cottage is in a terrace very near to long wide beaches and in walking distance of restaurants, pubs, small supermarkets, the harbour, and a very good Fish and Chip shop. Bamburgh and Alnemouth beaches are exceptional as is Beadnell. The cottage is warm and cosy and very well fitted out. High standard accommodation and fantastic hospitality from the owners (Virginia and Sandy) Strongly recommend a visit......
July 2012
This is a lovely light, spacious and beautifully furnished house in probably the nicest road in Amble. It's a great base for exploring and the harbour is just at the end of the road. The owners Virginia and Sandy live a fiew doors away and couldn't be more helpful. VIrginina is a great gardener and cook and a loaf of freshly baked bread and home made soup awaits you on arrival. We were lucky enough to be there when the mackeral arrived off shore - Sandy is an enthusiastic fisherman (during the alternate months he's not away working on oil rigs) and by the end of the week, we were 'macked out' - but have you ever tasted mackeral straight from the sea? They're like nothing you'll have bought from a supermarket.
August 2012
Compass House is situated in Amble, which I wouldnt say its an idyllic town - it looks like its had tourism thrust upon it but its actually got a much grittier working heritage that is quite apparent, but its my kind of place has enough small shops, pubs etc that meant we didnt have to get in the car everytime we wanted to get something. The house is brilliantly situated on a quiet street, that turns sort of into a cul de sac so little traffic down it. Its right by a green with a kids play area which is next to the sea. Walk up to Amble Links theres a caravan park there with a decent pub and the beach a little further up is excellent. The owners were brilliant very pleasant and helpful also a few nice touches like fresh bread and soup when you arrived were very much appreciated. The house is well appointed with everything you need. Its a dog friendly House but it still looks and smells like a normal home! Amble is a great place to base yourself from either just south to Druridge Bay or go north to Low Newton, Craster etc. Alnwick Castle was good book before you go to save time and money, Tourist info have discounted tickets. We have never been to the same place twice, but we are booking for next year already as it was literally bang on for what we needed.
