Converted Railway Carriage description

Holiday home
This is a holiday cottage like no other. Converted from a railway carriage and based on the old station at Hawsker in North Yorkshire, this cottage has character written all over it. Six people can be accommodated in three bedrooms. The master double room has an en-suite shower and WC as well as a single chair bed suitable for a child. There is a double, cabin style room (with the bed accessed from one side only) and a twin bunk bed room which is suitable for children, making this the perfect cottage for a family holiday that no child will ever forget. Also within the cottage is a separate shower room with WC and fitted kitchen with breakfast bar. The sitting room is made up with "first class" railway carriage seats so that you can pretend you are rolling along whilst watching television. If you can bear to tear yourself away from this amazing cottage, then the North Yorkshire Moors are just a few miles drive away as well as the famous old fishing village at Robin Hood's Bay and the historic town of Whitby, making this an incredible holiday for all the family.

Area
The village of Hawsker is half way between Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay on the North Yorkshire coast. This small village has a local pub which serves food and is close to the Cleveland Way. The Owner was very welcoming and helpful with recommendations of local places to go throughout our stay. The Carriage was better than we expected, really spacious and comfortable. We had a fabulous week despite the bad weather and would highly recommend this accommodation to others.

We are train fans, so for us, this property was ideal! The owner goes out of his way to ensure you are comfortable and have everything you need. The opportunity to hire bikes on site is real plus as you are right next to a cinder track.

The property was in an ideal location and being a converted railway carriage meant that it gave an exciting twist to our holiday. The rooms were wonderful and clean, the amenities all excellent. Cycle hire, from another part of the train station, was given at a substantial reduction. The host made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. I cannot recommend this property highly enough. Thank you to the owner, from all the family, for making our holiday so wonderful.

An excellent location, the facilities were great, and it was lovely and clean. The Carriage has been done to an excellent standard. The beds were comfy, the towels were nice and there was plenty of crockery. It was a holiday with a difference, would definitely recommend.

A lovely friendly welcome and tour of the railway carriage including how to use various items such as heating/air conditioning and combi oven. Everything we needed was included in the price. Lovely setting.

The peace and quiet and the fantastic views! The accommodation was superb and our host was so friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful week with our Grandkids knowing that they could play outside safely, that we could go for walks along the track and have a snack at the cafe which was very handy!

A last-minute idea for New Year and it couldn't have worked out better, Every effort made to ensure our comfort, and we especially appreciated the fine kitchen and shower facilities - most unexpected in a railway carriage! Really conveniently located for both Whitby and Robin Hood Bay, and the cycle hire was just brilliant. Guess as train nuts we may be a little biased, but this really was an amazing place to stay - even in wintry January! If you are staying in the winter months, though, I would recommend furry footwear, as shoes are (quite reasonably) not allowed on the nice carpet, and though the place itself is plenty warm enough, the floor does get cold. Otherwise, just perfect - thanks for a wonderful time!

High standard of decor and comfortable accommodation with good access to the local countryside and walks. The adjacent trail along the old railway line is particularly good for cycling and walking with or without pushchairs either into Whitby or Robin Hood Bay and beyond. Heating and bathrooms are very good and the power showers excellent.

The accommodation is none other than a complete converted railway carriage. There was loads of room inside and it was very comfortable, the master bedroom being quite large. The showers (his and hers), were very powerful and very hot, just the thing after a long day in the saddle. The carriage is situated right on the cinder path that runs from Whitby to Scarborough, and is ideally placed to explore the area by cycle or on foot. Keith, the host was very helpful and went out of his was to ensure we were happy and comfortable and had plenty to do. There are 2 great pubs only 10 minutes walk, both of which do excellent food. The charming town of Whitby is only 20 minutes bike ride away or a gentle 45 minutes walk along the traffic free cinder path.

Keith welcomed us as we arrived and he and another young man helped us with all our bags across to the carriage. Keith also showed us how everything worked. We had a very relaxing time with our two young grandchildren. It was great being able to leave the door open so they could go down the steps to the garden area. The facilities in the carriage were great - two loos and two showers. Very comfortable beds too. We just chilled out - using the cafe next door a few times. We were very impressed with Keith - nothing was too much trouble. We plan to go back next year with the grandkids again!!
