This is our third holiday in this property, which should say it all. The welcome from the owner and the lovely cottage itself make this a superb holiday choice. We enjoy seeing the animals close to the property. It's a quiet location, apart from the occasionally noisy Guinea Fowl. Cuckoostone Cottage is close to many great attractions in Matlock and the Peak District.
Mrs Lewis
January 2016
The cottage was absolutely delightful. It was far above what we expected, it was much bigger and had everything we needed and more. We can't wait to return.

We had a fantastic time Cuckoostone Cottage, it was the best equipped that we have ever stayed in. The location was as described and perfect with beautiful views. The owner was a lovely host, but didn't interfere but was there if we needed anything. She was kind and patient with my young children showing us the animals, even got them to help her feed the sheep and bring them into their barn at night.
Mrs Blacker

A beautiful location with wonderful views over the Derbyshire countryside but not too isolated, only ten minutes into Matlock for shops and restaurants etc. It was a lovely roomy cottage, each bedroom having its own bathroom was very useful. A great holiday.
Mrs Walker

Quiet, excellent views, peaceful and relaxing. Had a warm welcome from the owners - nothing was too much trouble. The well equipped kitchen meant we could have a belated Christmas cook in and then collapse in front of the wood burner. Had a lovely large porch for the storage of boots, coats and doggy towels.

Cuckoostone was probably the most well equipped cottage we have ever stayed in with lots of kitchen implements. The cottage was lovely and warm; easy to heat with everything on one level. There was the added bonus of a bathroom per bedroom. The owner could not have been a better hostess and the cottage was in a lovely situation; secluded and quiet but central for a whole host of interesting places.
Mrs Wormstone

This is the best cottage that we have used - a beautiful position with wonderful views. My husband is disabled and we found the cottage most convenient - the middle shower room, though small, had all the needed hand-rails. We all had a wonderful holiday with lovely hosts.

This is our third visit to Cuckoostone Cottage and it certainly won't be our last. We simply cannot fault it. We are a party with an age range from 4 to 80 and this cottage meets the needs of everyone. It is warm, cosy and so well appointed. The owner is very welcoming and friendly - nothing is too much trouble. Our 4 year old son particularly likes the animals and going out to see Ned the donkey every day. Spot on!

One of the best self catering cottages we have ever stayed in. It had everything we needed and more besides! Very friendly, attentive owners who live next door. Beautiful views of the Derbyshire countryside and lovely walks from the door. There is a lot to do in the area, even if the weather is poor. Haddon Hall is a real gem, very well preserved and with beautiful gardens. In good weather there are a multitude of lovely walks of varying distances and many excellent pubs serving very tasty food.
Mrs Johnson

A lovely cottage owned by a very friendly and lovely family who welcomed us and showed us around the cottage. Outside of the property were lovely views, ducks on the pond, a horse, pony, donkey and chickens. Instructions and guides in the Cottage were very informative and we did eat in one of the recommended pubs which was great.

November 2013
At this time of year, coming in from an enjoyable day out to sit and relax after dinner by the log fire,we were, to quote the phrase 'snug as a bug in a rug'. The beds were most comforting, the surrounds were charming, the welcome was pleasant. Every thought about detail had gone into making our stay one of the best. We could not, no matter how we tried, find fault with the location, accommodation, and friendliness of the owners. One word sums it all up; superb!

The cottage was excellent. The family and grandsons loved it. The owners were very helpful, even putting the cot together for the one year old and sorting out the bedding the three year old preferred. The views from the front of the cottage, across the valley and golf course, were fantastic. The children preferred the view of the horses and donkey at the back. This is the best cottage we have stayed in, ideal for a family of six. There will be a return visit.

July 2011
Peaceful country venue with the sound of farmyard animals. We liked the fact that the children were shown the areas they could access without upsetting the animals. They were able to be hands on with the horses, goats, chickens and some wonderful runner ducks. The views from every window of the cottage were spectacular. The owner of the cottage made sure that we had plenty of dry wood for the logburner which was very easy to light if needed. She also left wallets full of leaflets giving information on places to visit and eat which were very useful. If you enjoy walking then there were directions for some walks that could be accessed close by. One of the main advantages of the cottage was that we were only about 35 mins from many interesting and beautiful places to visit which were in the main, free for all!
Mr Quinn

An outstanding cottage in a peaceful and beautiful setting. The owner was extremely pleasant and helpful. The animals i.e. dogs, donkey, pony, horses etc. were a joy to come back to. We have been on self-catering holidays for over 30 years and Cuckoo Stone Cottage ranks as one of the best cottages we have used. This was our first holiday with Sykes Cottages and we were impressed with the website and the staff. We will definitely recommend both the cottage and Sykes Cottages to our friends. Many thanks.
Mr Mitchell
June 2011
We have stayed in many cottages over the last 30 years and the overall standard of this cottage is up with the best we have ever stayed in. We were made really welcome and were left a print out of the weather for the week and all nearby events. It was lovely to be able to look out of the kitchen and lounge windows at horses, chickens and a donkey in the field. We couldn't fault the rooms and bathrooms.
Mr Little

Lovely setting, cosy with log fire and comfortable ensuite to each bedroom which is a bonus. Has everything you need in the kitchen and lovely owners who are always on hand to help if you need anything. It was lovely to see the sheep just outside the window and the other animals around. We went in December but would love to return sometime in the summer months. Would definitely recommend.
July 2015
This place is out of the way up a long, long lane Sandy Lane (so needs transport but is so worth while. The owners are so kind and helpful they have a Donkey, pony, Horse, Chickens, Ducks.pea hens and Judy the Pig. They are so happy to let you go in the fields and pet and feed these animals, there are squirrels who eat off the bird table outside the living room window to entertain you when TV is boring. Three bedrooms all en-suite beautiful decorated and so clean. Fridge, freezer, washing machine, drier, dishwasher, etc. so near Chatsworth and peak district and caves great walking country. Cannot stop but must

March 2014
The cottage was lovely-the way you would have converted it if you had done it yourself! It was very well equipped too. However the best thing was the welcome we had and the time and patience from the owners sharing their time and their animals. We found it the ideal place to meet up with our extended Derbyshire family.

June 2015
We have just spent a week in this beautiful cosy cottage and it was wonderful. The very thick stone walls made it totally sound proof . It is set in the county with fantastic views in a very peacefull setting and is a animal and bird lovers paradise. The owners thoughtful organisation made it that everything you could ever need was provided. The property is VERY dog friendly and our dogs were welcomed as much as we were. We strongly recommend this lovely spacious well equipped comfortable cottage were we felt really at home.
August 2013
Would definitely recommend. This beautiful cottage had everything we needed with 3 en suite bedrooms which was essential as we had our 2 elderly mothers with us. We had glorious weather which was the icing on the cake and enabled us to explore this lovely part of Derbyshire. Will definitely return one day

We stayed here for two weeks and had a marvelous time, the property was comfortable and the owners extremely helpful and pleasant. We stay in a holiday home twice a year in the UK and this was one of the best.
December 2011
Couldn't have asked for more. 1)Very friendly owners 2) Superbly equipped accommodation 3)Beautiful location 4)Convenient for exploring Derbyshire The only bit liked least was having to leave.
May 2012
We stayed in this home from home for the bank holiday at the beginning of May The cottage has three lovely bedrooms all with ensuite which is great for a group of friends or a large family party. The kitchen had everyting we needed and the lounge was so cosy with the wood burner going. Plenty of heat and hot water. Outside there is a seating area in view of the donkey paddock (Ned loves apples!) but it was too cold for us to use the bbq. The views over the valley are spectacular and because you are at the end of a lane about half a mile from the main road, it is safe for children and animals. We will be back in the autumn.
