Darnhay Cottage Family Cottage description

Holiday home
This property has been converted to a very high standard and offers a wonderful abode for a family holiday. The sitting room has a wood-burner that gives the entire house a warm, welcoming feel, and is on an open-plan layout with the dining room. There is a well-equipped fitted kitchen and a ground floor bathroom and two bedrooms, one with an en-suite and one twin room. Outside there is a small patio area with seating and guests have shared use of the owner's paddock. There is a shop and public house two and a half miles away. There are so many attractions and activities around this location and this property makes a great base to see all that this lovely area has to offer.

The village of Mauchline sits peacefully in the lovely hills and countryside in an ideal spot for exploring the beautiful scenery of Ayrshire and the Isle of Arran. Mauchline is probably most famous for being the home of Robert Burns, who farmed in the area for many years and the house he shared with his wife Jean Amour, is now a museum and part of the Burns Trail. There are several golf courses including The Royal Troon close to the village. Culzean Castle is a magnificent National Trust for Scotland property and has been the principal seat of the Kennedy Family since 1759. The country park is 600 acres and has so many attractions for visitors to enjoy.

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

Oil central heating with woodburner in sitting room. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, flat screen TV, DVD, radio/CD player, small library of books/games/CDs/DVDs. Darnhay Cottage is a lovely, clean, well equiped and comfortable cottage. One of the best we have stayed in. The owners are friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a week in the cottage which is a fantastic base for touring the area. It is a peaceful location to return to. We would recommend the cottage to friends and family.
December 2011
In spite of the extremely wet and windy weather we had a very relaxed and enjoyable holiday at Darnhay Cottage, it was beautifully presented and catered for everything we needed, the wood burning stove was greatly appreciated because of the weather and we were kept well supplied with wood for it. The owners were very welcoming and even left us a home baked cake on our arrival. The only small defect we found was that the beds in the twin bedroom were a little short for my 6' 2" disabled husband because of the footboard. The location is a little remote, but there is easy access by car to both Sorn (where the food at the Sorn Inn is excellent)and Mauchline.
Mr. McLachlan

December 2009
The holiday got off to a good start. I was impressed with Sykes' efficiency and promptness in dealing with my initial availability request, even though my enquiry was late Sunday afternoon! Darnhay cottage was excellent; a converted barnhouse done up to a very high specification. The rooms were great and the oil fired stove in the lounge a nice extra touch. The kitchen was well equipped, and although we only ate in a couple of times, we could have cooked a more ambitious meal had we wanted to. The owners lived on site but weren't too obtrusive, whilst always being on hand to help. One bonus was that we could keep our bikes in another outhouse, which saved having to keep them in the house or re-load onto car. The location was fairly remote and perhaps that was the only down side for us. We would have liked to have been able to walk to the village. That said, the free Burns museum in Mauchline (2 miles away) is a real gem and worth a visit, and the village itself has a couple of grocery shops and a few nice pubs which serve good food. Overall, we would certainly recommend both the cottage and "Sykes Holidays" and will definitely use "Sykes" again for a good quality reasonably priced break. Bendigedig! M. Lewis Roberts Anglesey
December 2009
We found the cottage to be extremely comfortable and very well fitted. What was most important was that the owners were very friendly, informative and helpful and were so welcoming. We had a wonderful week there, it was a base from where we could visit a number of brilliant sites and was very accessible to getting a ferry to different islands; Rothesay was beautiful. The multi fuel burner is ferocious, we had to light it on the last day when the weather was appalling and it heats the cottage very quickly and very warmly. The only thing of remark is that to use the en suite bedroom you need to be very friendly as there is no door on the toilet/shower facilities. Otherwise brilliant in all respects.
December 2009
We stayed at this cottage for 1 week the owner was very friendly and helpfull. Plently of information at the cottage both about how to work items and about surrounding places to visit. Nothing was too much trouble for the owner they ensured our holiday went with out any hitches. The cottage was warm and cosy. Facilities great.
