Digg Coastal Cottage description

Holiday home
Rosehip Holiday Cottage sits on the hillside in the rural hamlet of the same name just outside Staffin on the Isle of Skye. With two double bedrooms (one of which is on the ground floor) and one twin, and boasting a shower room on the first floor and a ground floor bathroom this cottage sleeps six people in comfort. Within the cottage there is also a fitted kitchen, a utility room and a sitting room with a dining table and a woodburning stove. Outside the cottage is a lawned garden area and off road parking for three cars. Having been lovingly restored and renovated to make a superb romantic retreat, Rosehip Holiday Cottage is a wonderful location for an "away from it all" holiday.

Digg is a small community of traditional whitewashed cottages just two miles from the crofting township of Staffin. Digg enjoys wonderful views over to Staffin Island and to the famous Trotternish Ridge. The area is also well known for its beautiful sandy beach. The Jurassic landscape of the Trotternish Peninsula is rich in interest for geologists - sites such as the Mealt Waterfall and Kilt Rock where the waterfall drops 300 feet into the sea, and The Needle are worth a visit. The very photogenic 'Old Man of Storr' is a 160 ft pillar which dominates the landscape overlooking Loch Fada. Spectacular scenery, peaceful walks and a chance to really relax make this a holiday destination to which you will want to return time and again.

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

Oil central heating with woodburning stove. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, TV, stereo/CD, WiFi. Fuel, power and starter pack for stove inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Off road parking for 3 cars. Lawned garden area. Sorry, no pets and no smoking. Shop and pub 2 miles.

We love this cottage and the area so much. We can't fault it at all. Everything was perfect for us. This was our second stay and hopefully will be back soon for a third time.

A fantastic home with plenty of storage space and lovely views. We were really relaxed and it was a good base to see the Isle of Skye.

A calm, peaceful cottage with good help and presence if needed of the owner. The cottage was well equipped with everything you need for a stay while having bad weather. Highly recommended.

The house was fantastic. It was immaculately clean and very comfortable. We travel extensively, and have stayed in a lot of holiday lets in Scotland and throughout Europe and I can honestly say this has been the best we have ever had the pleasure to stay in. I would definitely recommend this house to any of my friends and will certainly love to come back when we return to Scotland.

May 2014
The cottage had almost everything we needed for the holiday. The bedrooms were very comfortable. The best bit was the views from the cottage and waking up to the sound of the cows and sheep as the sunshine poured in through the windows. It was one of the best cottages we've stayed in and would definitely recommend it to others.

We had an amazing holiday, we were there for New Year and we had a lovely time. The owner is very nice and helpful, he gave us information about a nice party in the area and this is how we had a great evening on the 1st of January. The property is very nice and very clean. Hope to go back again soon. Thank you!

Wonderful location. Very comfortable cottage. Good access to walking areas in Trotternish. Going in August we had feared being eaten alive by midges but we saw very few, perhaps because it was quite windy most of the time!
Mr Surridge

Scenery is beautiful. Like a Greek island where all houses are white instead of blue. WI-FI. Laundry facility. Large downstairs bathroom. Good parking. Log fire and central heating. Craft shops around island.

A wonderful island and an exceptional cottage in which to stay. The cottage is furnished and equipped to a very high standard and is also warm, cosy and unbelievably clean. It deserves more than a 3* rating. We have already re booked the cottage for later in the year.

An extremely well and thoughtfully equipped cottage. We received a warm welcome from the owner. It's in a fantastic location with lots of walking and wildlife. A well-equipped shop and post office is also nearby.

The cottage was truly brilliant - easily the best we've stayed in for attention to detail, cleanliness and organisation. Well done!

January 2012
What a great property. The things we really liked include the stunning scenery outside. The wifi the owners had just put in worked without a hitch. The wood burner which gave off great heat and was very easy to use. The Christmas cake and milk left waiting for us was generous. The fluffy bathrobes we could use. The amazing power shower. Everything was perfectly set up for a long break. They even checked to make sure we got home ok. Very thoughtful. We hope to return 1 day. Beautiful walks and dramatic weather. It was so quiet if you want to get away from it all.
Mr McGeachie
April 2011
The owners were particularly helpful and friendly. The cottage was delightful and we would certainly stay there again. This holiday was very special; my mother who is now 86 has been wanting to go to Skye for 80 years and this, for her, was a dream come true - the cottage helped enormously to make this happen.
June 2014
After a long and windy rainy journey, it was lovely to enter a warm and very clean cottage. The owners had left milk, bread etc for us so we could warm ourselves up, in front of a lovely fire with a nice cup of tea. This is in addition to the central heating! The kitchen and utility room are well equipped with the normal units including a microwave oven, dishwasher, good washing machine and separate tumble drier. The bedrooms were beautiful and spacious and the beds were very comfortable. There are good views looking out from the front windows of the cottage but there are no views from the back of the cottage except via skylights in the roof. There were only 2 of us, but if there were 6 people in the house, the table would have to be set up for meal times and put away to allow people to make full use of the lounge. The modem and internet was easy to find and once connected, we had no problems in getting on the internet. However, we needed to go outside to get a mobile connection. We liked the location since it was in the north part of Skye which we wanted to see. There is a shop in Staffin near Digg, where we could buy groceries and where there are a couple of cafes/restaurants. We ate at the Flodigarry Hotel which is north of Digg. It had been revamped over the winter months - lovely place, good for that special occasion but it is pricey. Lots of touristy places to visit, beautiful walks - recommend visiting the Quiraing along the Trotternish ridge. Also look for the dinosaur footprint in the rocks at Staffin. We did not see the owner until half way through the holiday but this was ok since we had talked with him before the holiday as recommended by trip advisor. All in all, the cottage is well looked after with modern units and comfortable furnishings.

June 2011
Location and hospitality of the cottage and its owner. Out the front windows was the sea and out the back gate we hiked right into the mountains of the Totternish Ridge. It was the best of both worlds!
December 2012
This is a comfortable, clean and recently refurbished property, off the beaten track. Excellent for walking and exploring Skye - we like the Faerie Pools and the dinosaur footprints on nearby Staffin Beach.

The place was spotless, plenty of room (3 bedrooms, 2 baths, kitchen, laundry, living/study). A great stay with no problems. Very quiet and peaceful.

July 2012
The property was spotlessly clean and well cared for. We were welcomed, and it was easy to contact the owner. The location was great. We liked the fact that all fuel and power was included, as more logs were delivered during our stay. There was also walking from the doorstep.
Mr Jones
May 2011
Lovely cottage which had everything we could possibly need for our holiday. The Isle of Skye is beautiful and we enjoyed seeing the sights and venturing out. Would recommend this property to anyone.
Mr Roberts
July 2011
The cottage was comfortable and clean. The beds where great after a long day and the views where excellent. Overall a very enjoyable stay.
January 2014
Great place, amazing view, the house is very clean. 3bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Unfortunately not a good wifi connection. The owner is very kind and will provide all the info about the area, he left also a welcome basket with wine, milk, coffee and chocolate.
December 2013
The owners have put significant thought into making this house a welcoming and comfortable place to stay. They couldn't have been more helpful.
