This is my second stay at Duck Cottage. It's an ideal base for a holiday located on the canal for easy access to Chester and plenty to do in the surrounding area. The cottage is clean, well equipped and very well presented. I'll definitely return and also recommend the property to friends and family.

Closeness to Chester and in an idyllic setting - the Cottage was like a home from home and a lovely place to relax at the end of the day.

The property was well placed for Chester, Manchester Liverpool, with good access to motorways. Nice walk along the canal just outside the garden gate, in one direction into the centre of Chester and the other into open countryside. Good internet connection.

Good base for visiting friend and family which was the main purpose of our time in Cheshire. Also for the public transport service right outside the cottage

This was an ideal location just outside of Chester, enabling us to explore everything on offer from a good base. The canal being at the end of the garden was an interesting bonus.

The location is superb, with access to canal towpath at the bottom of the back garden, affording a pleasant stroll in to Chester or to Waverton in the other direction. There is a park and ride, and a large Sainsburys nearby. The cottage is in first class condition, and clean and fresh. Although the location is on a busy main road, traffic noise is well suppressed by the double glazing. We have already booked again for next year!

It was far enough out of Chester to be rural, but close enough to get to where we wanted to go very easily. The canal at the back was lovely to walk along.

We usually book self-catering holidays directly with an owner, but as this booking was through a well known company, our expectations were high that the cottage would be well equipped and comfortable. While it was quite comfortable (the reclining sofas were amazing!), I was disappointed by the kitchen equipment, and would have appreciated more towels and bed linen per person during our two week stay. Location-wise, the cottage is a good base from which to enjoy many of the local attractions (it's a two mile walk along the canal into Chester), and Wales and even Liverpool are within easy reach. However we found the noise of the lorries and cars on the A41 throughout the night, quite a disturbance. (As an estimate, I would say the traffic is not even 20 feet from the master bedroom window.) In the details of the cottage it says 'some road noise can be heard', but to us this understated the situation. Having said that, there are quite a few entries in the visitors' book of people who've stayed more than once, so presumably they don't find the traffic noise a problem.

I've already written one review for this cottage and for some reason it hasn't been published so I'll try again. My husband and I stayed at Duck Cottage with our son for the half term week. The place was filthy and ill equipped. I couldn't even cook in the cooker as it was so dirty. There was rubbish all over the back lawn, the skirting boards were covered in dust and the curtains in the lounge didn't even fit the window. I would not recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a relaxing break away.
