Faith Cottage Countryside Cottage description

Holiday home
Situated in the rural hamlet of Bradfield St. George, one and a half miles from the village of Felsham, is this grade II listed property. This wonderful little cottage dates back to 1488 and has been sympathetically restored to blend character features with modern amenities. There is a charming thatched roof, exposed beams throughout and woodburning stoves in both the dining and sitting room. In addition to the amenities of Felsham, visitors to the cottage can enjoy those of Bury St. Edmunds, which include the Theatre Royal and stunning Cathedral.

Home to a good local shop, a lovely village pub and a beautiful church dating back to the 15th Century, Felsham is a charming example of an East Anglian village. The surrounding settlements offer a further insight into the region's past and boast a wide selection of architectural styles. Properties of note include Ickworth House, built by the eccentric 4th Earl of Bristol, and Melford Hall, a turreted Tudor mansion once visited by Elizabeth I. Lavenham is also close by and is a pretty, medieval town which offers a number of stunning Tudor buildings and a local history museum. Bury St. Edmunds is also worth visiting and is host to a good range of pubs and restaurants as well as a choice of museums, parks and a stunning Cathedral.

Picturesque rolling Fens, unspoilt beaches, and pretty waterways – East Anglia is a dream holiday destination. Norfolk offers beaches, saltmarshes and quaint villages whilst equally as charming are the coast and countryside of Suffolk.

Electric heating with underfloor heating on ground floor and woodburners in dining and sitting rooms. Range cooker with electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, TV with FreeSat, DVD, CD/radio, selection of books, games and DVDs. Fuel, power and starter pack of fuel for woodburners inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Travel cot and highchair on request. Off road parking for 3 cars. Large lawned garden with garden furniture. Sorry, no pets and no smoking. Shop and pub 1.5 miles. Note: There is a fenced pond close to this property. My husband, two friends and myself stayed here in May 2009 but have never forgotten our visit to Faith Cottage it was so wonderful. The cottage looked so pretty on Sykes' website and didn't disappoint in the slightest. The owners couldn't have done more to make you feel at home, there were too many little touches to mention which you don't often find in rented cottages. If we ever get down that way again we would love to make a return visit and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a holiday in the area.

November 2014
What an amazing place!! Faith Cottage is absolutely beautiful. It has a warm and friendly atmosphere and the WOW factor throughout. It has been lovingly restored to an extremely high standard by the owners, Carol and Colin, and it was a real privilege to stay there. They gave us a very warm welcome and it was a lovely surprise to have the table laid with scones and jam and all we needed to begin our holiday without rushing out to the shops for basic provisions. Every single part of this cottage is was a joy discovering each room with all the character and querks... yet still very practical and well equipped. I particularly enjoyed my long soak in the roll top bath, which made for a luxurious and relaxing evening after our journey over. It had everything we needed for a wonderful weekend away. I would highly recommend this Cottage, and we will definitely be going back!

Such a lovely cottage with great charm and character. Colin and Carol are very friendly and welcoming they have both done a brilliant job renovating this cottage and it's definitely paid off. We both had a relaxing week here unwinding after a busy life style. This property is a great location to explore suffolk and the local attractions like Anglesey Abbey, Lode Mill, Bury St Edmund's and Sudbury.

May 2011
Carol and Colin are wonderful hosts and they've done a great job fulfilling their personal dream of repairing and fitting out Faith Cottage. It is beautifully appointed with quality furnishings, appliances and loving touches, It is comfortable, cozy and charming. Colin tells a great history of the place and his pride in his work is evident. The cottage is surrounded by very nice landscaping and farmer's fields. Like any centuries old house it has its quirks. If you're handicapped in any way, be careful. The bedrooms are up a steep staircase and the bath is downstairs. However, there is a convertible sofa on the ground floor that avoids the stair issue. We enjoyed our stay very much and would do it again in a minute.
November 2011
The cottage was fully stocked with high quality utensils, linen, crockery etc., a warm welcome from the owners Carol and Colin. Nothing was too much trouble. The location was very peaceful, but was within 20 - 40 mins of easy driving to Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich, Sudbury. and more. The 4 of us had a very enjoyable stay.

July 2007

August 2007
Extra thoughtful touches by the owners, e.g cream tea, bottle of wine, plenty of cleaning stuff, chocolates etc, and the feeling that they trusted us in their house having filled it with lovely things. It was a real treat to be there.
May 2010
It is a very nice cottage with very good quality furnishings. The owners live close by and are very nice people although they did not interfere. Quiet secluded area but plenty of places to visit within easy driving distance.
July 2010
Not only did this look like the best cottage we had ever stayed in it was. The little touches added by the owners as well as their friendliness and kindness made it so. The cottage itself deserved the five stars it has got from us. It was beautiful, lacked nothing you could want and indeed immediately felt like a home not a holiday let. The location was good with access to Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex. The area was very quiet and peaceful and the gardens of the cottage were kept beautifully and we enjoyed watchng and feeding the birds and the squirrels. We missed the deer unfortunately who we understand visit too but we did have a visit from the local rabbit population. All in all this cottage is highly recommended, unless of course, you are looking for wild nights out but for a country location it is ideal.
July 2010
The cottage was ideal, location, cleanliness, everything was top notch.
December 2009
The cottage is beautiful, both with old beams and with a modern, large kitchen. It is a listed cottage, so the staircase to the first floor apparently could not be made less steep. Another handrail would have been nice, though, as I tripped down the stairs and twisted my ankle quite badly. However, we have recommended the cottage to some friends of ours

Faith Cottage is a typically English thatched country cottage in a location ideal for exploring the Suffolk countryside and amenities and is convenient for visiting the university city of Cambridge. The welcome we received was more than we expected; we were made to feel more like friends than visitors. We intend to make a return visit.

Our second visit to Faith Cottage with its thatched roof, beautiful peaceful garden and modern kitchen and bathroom which are scrupiously clean. The owners go out of their way to make sure you have a wonderful stay. You do have to take care going down the stairs as they are quite steep (a requirement of the building being listed). Pubs two miles away, supermarkets six miles, loads of farm shops in the area. Easy access to main roads for fast access to the Suffolk/Norfolk coast.
