A stunning property surrounded by beautiful countryside. There was plenty of space for everyone to enjoy the different rooms, particularly the hub of the property - the open plan kitchen and dining area which has been sensitively restored to create a very sociable property, perfect for celebrating with a group of friends or family. It is very well equipped and the owners are incredibly helpful. This location enables complete relaxation without the distractions of daily life! Perfect if you want to get that wow factor when you walk in and to relax.

I can't rate this property enough! It was beautiful and just perfect for our family get away. The owners were just so very helpful. Nothing was a bother and it was lovely to meet them. The barn was furnished to a high standard and the cooking equipment was spot on, a lot of thought has gone in to planning, organising and maintaining the barn. I am so chuffed with our choice and would love to stay again.

Wonderful. A superb barn conversion in a superb location, just perfect for a family gathering to celebrate a big birthday. Despite the high ceiling the house was warm and comfortable; two living rooms plus the main kitchen/dining area gave us loads of space, all the bedrooms were good sized and there were four bathrooms.

Farm House Barn had good social spaces and was of high quality. The bike storage is a bonus and having two lounges and a games room made life easier where you have different interests.

Fantastic place for a big family gathering. Beautiful scenery and walks on the doorstep. Really well equipped barn, we did not need to get any extras even though we came with babies. We would love to come back to explore the area some more.

It was the first time that we had visited that area and we were delighted with the Barn. The Golden Valley is a beautiful setting and suited our group very well. The owners made us feel very much at home and were very helpful with all our requests.

The communal areas were spacious, there was a beautiful country feel to the property. The kitchen was well equipped with plenty of crockery, glasses, cooking utensils - not to mention the double range cooker! The island was perfect for preparing our pre Christmas family feast! The table tennis was a real perk too. It had comfortable beds with good quality linen. Overall an excellent property.

We are quite a large extended family, so this barn was fantastic for us all to spend a fun weekend together. The owner was very friendly and the barn had everything we needed. The heating was good too which was a bonus on such a cold weekend. Lovely surroundings for long walks too!

Very comfortable, home-from-home property. The separate areas meant we could 'escape' one another and yet the central spaces were so well appointed that we had enough room when we came together.

Fantastic location with views over the valley and of the black mountains, a beautiful house with energetic walks on the door step. The Farm House Barn was always warm and toasty due to underfloor heating, the added addition of the log burner in the snug made it very cosy during the evenings in January. The oven was amazing and coped very well cooking a Christmas dinner for a large group of hungry walkers. My children loved the books and toys which were provided and the older children were very excited when they found the play station and a fantastic selection of games.
Mrs Caldecott

The location of this property is perfect. You have easy access to Hereford and Hay-on-Wye, whilst nestling in the 'Golden Valley' with a wraparound view of rolling hills and fields - total tranquility. A wonderful break away from city life!

The property met our requirements to the full, it enabled each individual to have their own personal space when required. The heating of the barn conversion was excellent despite the size.

Plenty of space to spread out and a brilliantly equipped kitchen. The picnic field is fantastic for running off energy. Provided 2 real cots which made it more homely and easier to settle the little ones. It's the little things that make the most difference.

August 2016
We stayed at this a while back and what an awesome place it was. we went as a large group and this barn is made for that. a lot of space and the games room with a table tennis absolutely makes it a fun and relaxing place to stay. Views are amazing if you go for walk. plenty of parking space. Plenty of room outside for a BBQ. Interior was modern and some of the living rooms makes you feel right at home. Poor phone signals but we did not mind, sometimes its good to be away from technology and enjoy the nature. The aroma at night is beautiful. Highly recommended.

Perfect place for family get togethers. Very snowy! Owner very helpful throughout, even providing a toboggan which was much appreciated.
April 2015
We've just returned from a wonderful long weekend as part of week-long celebrations for my father's 70th birthday. There were three generations staying at Farm House Barn, including an 8 year old and 4 year old and everyone loved the property. It's been beautifully adapted and there is masses of space; adults and children alike loved exploring all of the various rooms and annexes. The kitchen was well appointed and there were plenty of games, including a big ping-pong table and other home comforts to keep us entertained. A word of warning - there is NO phone reception on any mobile network and we had to travel several miles to get any. There is wifi but it is very slow and checking emails etc can take 20 minutes or more! Fabulous if you really want to escape from it all, but if you need connection to the outside world you might be better off staying elsewhere! Most rooms are accessed via various flights of stairs so best for those with full mobility, although there is one bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor with only a couple of steps up to them. Would recommend whole-heartedly to anyone wanting a special home to spend time with friends and family.
January 2014
The perfect home for two families to share. A wonderful, large open plan kitchen/diner was the heart of the property whilst the kids loved the table tennis table. The owners offered a warm welcome then left us to enjoy ourselves. Walks from the door and attractions within easy striking distance.
July 2014
Beautiful converted barn with everything a large group needs for a holiday. Owners very helpful but not intrusive. Some fresh food from their farm (eggs, fresh vegs, honey, jam) was delicious and a welcome bonus. The large converted barn has lots of steps so not good for disabled. The place is quite isolated - takes about 25 mins drive from Hereford but there is a large paddock to play in, a games room with table tennis and 2 rooms with TVs. Internet is slow/sometims unavailable. Phone service bad too. Great place to get away from it all.

December 2011
This is a great property, very spacious and full of character. It has all the amenities you need and it's very peaceful.. Ideal for larger group/family holidays. The surrounding area is good for sight seeing. Would come back again sometime.
December 2012
Lovely place, excellent facilities in a beautiful area. Very suitable for family groups with its layout. Facilities for children excellent with toys and books a plenty. Not so easy for pram or buggy access though. It would have been easier if all the exterior doors were able to be opened for access. It was immaculately clean. Owners are extremely helpful, very welcoming and living close by.
June 2013
My husband and I were both 65 this year and instead of having a party we decided to book somewhere where all the family could join with us for a holiday. So we found Farm House Barn in abbey Dore. It was wonderful. The area was stunningly beautiful; the bedrooms were a good size; the bathrooms were excellent; the kitchen/dining room was very well kitted out and what we liked was the fact that all 10 of us could sit round the large dining table to have our meals. There were two lounges - one with a wood burner which was very cosy. The underfloor heating kept us all nice and warm and best of all we didn't have any extra charges for heating etc; the games room kept the younger children amused (and the adults too!). I would recommend it and our family are talking about recommending it to their friends too...
November 2011
The barn we stayed in was absolutely beautiful and was in a lovely setting. Most things we needed were there and the barn has been thoughtfully renovated. There was a large group of us staying and we also rented the property opposite (the granary) for a 30th birthday. Although the property was beautiful I feel it was more suited to a quiet/smaller group. We felt we were constantly watched by the owner ensuring we were behaving etc. There was a lot of us there and I can understand the owner being concerned about her property, but we were always careful and very respectful towards the barn and its contents. The owner made a point of telling us that it wasnt just a holiday rental but also her "home". Which is understandable as her house is just 100 metres away but I feel maybe she should consider stating that the house isn't suitable for party groups. If you have small children I would recommend taking several travel stair gates. Or maybe this is somethingnthe owner may want to think about providing. also could do with sharper knives and more mirrors (full length). There is no phone signal at all and the wifi is extremely slow. So make any important calls before arriving and make sure everyone has directions. I would definately recommend this beautiful barn to families, but I doubt we would returned due to the reasons above, even though we loved this beautiful property.
August 2011
We stayed at Farmhouse Barn for the week of the Hay Festival. This was the best of the properties we have used for this purpose over the course of several years. Sparklingly clean, beautifully adapted and with the friendliest of owners it made for an excellent stay for our group of eight friends.
August 2011
A great barn conversion with lots of space - and steps - for a big family. Very well equipped in a lovely location

July 2016
The pictures don't do this barn justice. It is in an idyllic spot in immaculate surroundings. The owners were excellent hosts. I can't recommend it enough.
January 2011
Barn equipped to a high standard, but there were a lot of stairs you have to be quite fit, owners most welcoming. Could have done with mirrors in the bathrooms and a bit more lighting in the dining area but these are only minor faults.
July 2010
We stayed in May 2010, a group of old university friends (and one baby). The barn conversion has been done very well, with real thought put into how such a large group might use the space; so there is a massive dining table inside and out, two lounges each with a television and a very large farmhouse kitchen and 3 bathrooms. Also each of the bedrooms is well separated from the others. This allows for different activities to go on without affecting everybody and, although we had fabulous weather, there is more than enough within the barn to allow for rainy days. Highly recommended.
