Fell Foot Cottage Family Cottage description

Holiday home
Originally part of a working farm, this cottage has been delightfully converted to offer accommodation for groups of up to four people. It retains many original features such as exposed beams, slate flooring and a wood-burning stove to relax in front of on chilly winter evenings. This atmospheric hideaway is served by stunning views of the Langdale Pikes and is close to a number of walks and cycle-trails. The living accommodation has been designed in an open-plan style and there is a well-equipped kitchen although, should you decide to have an evening out, the local pub is only a mile away.

Little Langdale is a hamlet of a few scattered stone houses and a pub in the valley of the same name. The Three Shires Inn gets its name from the location two miles away where the boundaries of the old counties of Cumberland, Westmorland, and Lancashire met. At the head of the valley is Blea Tarn. Offering stunning views of the Langdale Pikes, Blea Tarn is a small lake in one of the most picturesque parts of the Lake District and contains brown perch, trout and pike. Stone built Blea Tarn House, built in the 1600s, sits nearby. Other attractions in the area include the remains of a Viking settlement, where the Viking open-air parliament was held and new laws proclaimed. Nearby, Green Burn Mine is widely regarded as the best preserved copper mine in the Lake District. There is a beautiful walk to these remote remains, offering unsurpassed views of the region.

Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

We've been to Fell Foot Cottage before and returned because we love its isolation and silence at night, and being able to walk from the door of the cottage. It's comfortable and a perfect place to collapse after a long day in the hills.

The cottage was perfect for the location; cosy, quirky and full of character. The views from every window were spectacular and we had many fantastic walks straight from the doorstep. The log burner was a treat to come back to and we spent quality family time relaxing in the most perfect surroundings. Would definitely recommend to anyone who appreciates getting away from it all.

Attractive well equipped cottage in an excellent location.

The views from this cottage are spectacular! We've stayed at the lakes several times, but Fell Foot gave us seclusion. You are minutes from the shops and several great spots, yet far enough away to feel alone in the hills. Walks from the cottage are terrific, and it's right at the start of Wrynose Pass. We'll definitely return.

It was well situated in a picturesque location. There were brilliant walks and good food at The Three Shires. The farmer had prepared the log fire and everything was just perfect. Would book again and would highly recommend this cottage.

This is a lovely property to take you back in time - excellent if you like historic things, with 'Ting Mound' just a few yards away and Roman ruins close by, plus beautiful views on the walk to Blea Tarn. Best of all there is NO mobile signal so making for a peaceful holiday - Perfect!

November 2007
We were really impressed with both the area and the cottage itself, the views from the cottage were stunning. There were loads of places to visit all within easy travelling distance. The cottage was as a cottage should be, beams, stone floor etc. We just wish we had booked it for a week in the summer but we will definitely be holidaying with Sykes Cottages again, and I have recommended you to my friends.

Lovely hideaway, away from the hustle and bustle of the main Lake District. Quiet and cosy. Excellent for walking.
October 2011
as there was no mobile phone signal and no phone in cottage we were glad there was no emergencies no neighbours no instructions about anything discovered p ub 1 mile awayfelt isolated

A beautiful old cottage nestled in a valley a mile or so west of Little Langdale. As such, it is remote but if you like to be away from a town, this is perfect with loads of hiking from the front door. Very comfortable with wood burning stove to help keep room warm. Kitchen did lack a few basic amenities - kitchen foil, washing up liquid, kitchen tools and such. But, all appliances worked, fridge, 4 burner stove and wahing machine and dishwasher. 4 people might be a bit cramped, but for 2 of us, it was fine and bed very comfortable.

May 2011
A very nice in-character restoration in which we had a very pleasant stay. Be prepared to duck under the beam over the inglenook fireplace - you will learn, but then you'll forget again! The owner was very helpful when needed. No mobile signal for miles, but that could be a blessing. A surprising amount of walkers and passing traffic for such a remote road, but that was a reflection of a very fortunate week weatherwise. Great countryside and, from the guestbook, we won't be the last planning to return there.
January 2011
The cottage was well equipped and in a beautiful location, but staying in the winter, my friend and I found it very cold. The storage heater in the living area was totally ineffecient and as we had paid the extra fuel supplement of ?20 for 3 days, we felt we should have been warmer. Also it was difficult to buy logs for the wood burner as only one fire's worth of logs were left by the owner.
December 2009
although we know the lakes well fell foot cottage was a wonderful homely cottage full of history, it is right beside the start of the wrynose/hard knot pass so single line traffic outside the windows but not a problem it all added to the atmosphere especially with THE LANGDALE PIKES in full view, lots of walks right from the door, it is very rural and picturesque away from everything. We would certainly stay there again, the owners live next door & are both very friendly & helpful the cottage has everything you need
December 2009
Lovely comfortable and well appointed cottage but not as quiet as we had hoped as there was a surpringly rather busy road immediately outside. Great for walking directly from the cottage and within a mile or so there was a delightful pub but one would need a torch to get back after dark.
