Plus side ? Coddenham is a lovely village to visit.
Please avoid this cottage if you want a peaceful country retreat. It is nothing like what you would expect from the pics and 'blurb'...
The noise is horrendous. From the HGVs that thunder inches past your windows day and night , to the local mod base with helicopters on military exercises , usually around 0100 ...maybe 2300 if you're lucky .
There is no such thing as 'on street parking ' ... We had to park almost out of the village and walk back with luggage/5 year old in tow, taking your life in your hands as no pavement and constant traffic. You can't even park outside to unload without risking a) glares/comments from locals b) risking damage to yourself or vech!! (Just google Coddenham /traffic complaints...wish we had ...)
There is no local pub as detailed in the description ... It has been closed down at least 2 years ...
Rear patio area with furniture? That's slightly exaggerated ?! If you want to squeeze your 3 guests on to 2 chairs on a 2ft wide plank of wood...bizarre.
Now to the cottage itself ... I'm not sure what hits you first - the smell of damp dog or the air fresheners put EVERYWHERE to disguise it. It's disgusting. The whole place is filthy , and every where covered in dog hairs. As previous comments said , the whole place could do with a really good scrub. We found dirty crockery in cupboards, rubbish left in wardrobes, and when we first arrived we thought we could be in wrong place as the porch was full of old boots, jackets and rubbish left behind... No room for our own stuff.
We didn't stay long- left after 3 nights and booked into travel lodge as couldn't bear another sleepless night and our daughter wouldn't sleep in her dismal room.
But any time we did spend there we just stayed in the bedroom , as the sofa /cushions/rug were all sticky and covered in dog hair- just awful.
We stay in self catering cottages many times every year, and this was the worst place we've ever seen.
Have just secured a partial refund to cover our travel lodge stay , and admission that the description was perhaps 'not entirely' accurate ...
If there's only one or two of you, arriving without a car to park , and you are taking dogs, and you don't care about not sleeping a wink, or using clean cutlery, I'm sure you'll have a lovely time in this cottage in beautiful Suffolk.
