Fountain View Cottage description

Holiday home
Fountain View Cottage is in the village of Youlgreave just four miles from Bakewell. The cottage sleeps eight people and has two family bedrooms, one on the ground floor, one double and a family bathroom. Also in the cottage is a kitchen with dining area, dining room with electric fire and sitting room with open fire. Outside is off road parking for one car and roadside parking, together with enclosed courtyard. Situated in a valley, Fountain View Cottage is a lovely family holiday cottage all year round.

Surrounded by stunning countryside, the ancient village of Youlgreave winds its way along a narrow limestone shelf, situated between two of the area's loveliest valleys - Lathkill Dale to the north and Bradford Dale to the south. Once the centre of Derbyshire's lead-mining industry, this charming village now plays home to three pubs, all serving food, two shops (one with a Post Office) and a delightful medieval church. The attractive market town of Bakewell is nearby and offers a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as a frequent local market. With the whole of the Peak District National Park on the doorstep, many stately homes to visit including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall, as well as Alton Towers, Britain's premier theme park, just a short drive away, this great area has plenty to offer!

The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Large quaint cottage and nice pub. Decor plain with loads of nick nacks. High vaulted lounge with huge working fire. Probably due to us renting at end of summer season before deep clean, bins near the back door and previous guests, the kitchen had flies that we had difficulty getting rid of. Well equipped although no foil, fly spray and little washing liquid. Kindly left some left over tea bags and oil which was very welcome. Toilet seat needs replacing. The house manual asked us to strip all the five beds before we left at ten which was new to us.

We were a family of 5 adults & were very pleased with the cottage . Only draw back we found ,was only 1 bathroom ,another toilet would have been handy . It was well equipped & spacious. All in all we were happy .

Lovely location. Large spacious cottage, good for family get togethers. Kitchen well equipped. Plenty of games in cupboard. Although stated there was parking for one car in back, it was very difficult to access. The place was very cold on arrival and needed the large upstairs open fire to be lit every day, which was expensive for the week, obviously not a problem during summer months. Toilet seat was not very nice, damaged wood, likely to harbour germs, and needs replacing, especially with it being the only toilet in the house. The house would benefit from another toilet/shower room and in my opinion is in need of a good freshen up. It was decorated for Christmas which was nice and once we got the place warmed up provided us with a nice place for our family get together. For the size of the accommodation, I would not recommend this to a party of more than 6 people, due to the toilet facilities.

Quiet town, friendly locals, reasonably close to amenities and the surroundings were amazing. The accommodation was nice; the kids loved it, particularly the park nearby.
