Foxgloves Cottage description

Holiday home
Foxgloves Cottage is a stone built cottage which adjoins the owners' farmhouse, two miles from the town of Wigton, near to the Lake District National Park. Boasting three bedrooms, comprising of one family room with a double and adult bunk beds, one double bedroom and one twin bedroom, this cottage sleeps eight people. The cottage also has a family bathroom and a family shower room, a kitchen with a dining area and a sitting room with an open fire. To the outside of this cottage there is a garden with furniture and ample parking. Foxgloves Cottage is an ideal holiday cottage for exploring Cumbria and the Lake District National Park.

With a charter granted in 1262, the traditional Cumbrian market town of Wigton still holds a market each Tuesday in the covered market hall. This lovely town is a popular centre for shopping, pubs and restaurants, as well as for other activities such as theatre, bowls, swimming, tennis and other sports. The Lord Melvyn Bragg novel, 'A Time to Dance', featured the town of Thurston, which was based on Wigton and the local area. The town is just 18 miles from Penrith and so makes an excellent base from which to explore the cathedral city of Carlisle, the North Lakes and the natural beauty of the West Cumbrian Coast. The epic Roman construction, Hadrian's Wall, is within 25 miles, whilst the Scottish borders and their famous town of Gretna Green are within easy driving distance.

Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

Night storage heaters with oil-fired AGA and open fire in sitting room. AGA cooker, electric cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, TV with Freeview, DVD/video. Use of washing machine and tumble dryer by arrangement. All fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Cot and highchair on request. Sunny garden with garden furniture. Ample parking. Two well-behaved pets welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shop and pub 2 miles.

A great location to get to Hadrian's Wall and the Lake District. The property was excellent for a large group with a great kitchen and dining area, loved the Aga. The owners could not have been more welcoming and helpful. It was a really different experience on a farm which we all enjoyed.

A true farm stay with animals galore and hosts who had a vast array of experience in rural life. The physical warmth of the building as a consequence of the Aga was a real bonus.

The house was immaculate and everything we needed was there. It was particularly spacious inside and the gardens outside were fabulous with loads of relaxing seating and a great long table to accommodate us all. We were surrounded by farm animals and our grandchildren loved meeting them all. The owners also had some puppies which the children were allowed to play with in the garden. The owners were great and extremely friendly - nothing was too much trouble for them - all the children liked chatting to them especially our Rebecca. The surrounding area had loads of things for kids to do and all reasonably priced. Keep up the good work.

The owners were absolutely fantastic. The cottage is very spacious and could easily accommodate eight people. It was well maintained with all of the furniture that might be expected. The cottage is set within farmland and is ideally situated to access the Lake District National Park, Carlisle etc. I would highly recommend this cottage to everybody.

Loved everything about the holiday, the owners are wonderful people and nothing is to much trouble for them. The cottage was very well equipped, with everything you needed and more! The property was clean and very well kept. The bedrooms were spacious and beautifully decorated and really welcoming with warm colours. The kids enjoyed helping the owners with the animals on the farm especially feeding the lambs and were pleased to be able to see a newborn lamb, which was born the day before we left. Overall an excellent holiday, great hosts, great location, great house! We will definitely return in the future and highly recommend it!

Immaculate - kitchen facilities with aga were second to none. Huge table and it was nice for the eight of us to sit down together for a meal. Loads of animals for the children to see and feed. Owners were very laid back and friendly - nothing was too much trouble for them. Difficult to gauge the size of the rental but it was huge. lovely owners, friendly, helpful and laid-back, great source of info on things to do and the best way to get there. The cottage was huge, with 5 adults, 3 children and 2 dogs, space was certainly not a problem. We especially loved the kitchen and the AGA is amazing. The cottage was clean and comfortable, unfortunately it was not cold enough for us to light the open fire which was all laid and ready to go if needed. The garden was massive, very secluded, private and super secure for the kids and dogs, lots of seating and views to die for! animals galore and bramble picking which the kids loved. Could happily have stayed forever..... looking forward to returning ASAP!
March 2010
We all stayed here for New Year Eve and loved it. The farmer and his wife were real helpful and made sure we were comfy in the cottage. It is attached to the working farm with some fab animals - sheep, dogs and horses that we got to play with ;- there is acres of land that you can go for walks in and not to far to get to other parts but i would say a car is needed!! the amenities were great could not ask for more - 2 bathrooms 3 bedrooms........the kitchen had all that was needed to live there.............. I do recommend the cottage to all......
November 2010

This was avery spacious and comfortable place to stay which was exactly what we expected of a country cottage and more. The addition of it being located on a working farm enhanced our stay. The owners were friendly and helpful and nothing was abother to themand the free range eggs they supplied beautiful and stright from the nest. An all round joy of a stay

December 2009
The agar in the kitchen was wonderful. The cottage was well equipped for all members of the family including toys for the granchildren to books and games for the adults. The granchildren adored the baby lamb which hd been born the day we arrived. The grounds were a haven tucked away which were safe for the children to explore and the farmer and his wife very hospitable. The bedrooms were roomy and well decorated. It was one of the best holidays we have had with our son and his family for a long time even though it was the height of the season and the weather wasnt that wonderful. It would be good to hsave a bigger television in the lounge but it really wasnt a major problem...even the dog had a good time. Really depends if you are looking for a farmhouse accommodation or a more up market modern property. For us it was ideal.
December 2009
A great warm and cozy farmhouse property. The kitchen was huge well stocked and the Aga a treat. BUt the jewel were the owners, nothing was too much trouble - eggs delivered and milk. But the attention they gave my boys is not forgotton - animals and tractors - a great combination.
