Foxholes description

Holiday home
Foxholes is set on a working farm close to the village of Staindrop in Teesdale, just five miles from Barnard Castle. The cottage has two double bedrooms (one with an ensuite) and one twin as well as a family bathroom which makes it suitable for six people. Also in the cottage are a fitted kitchen with a breakfast area and a sitting room with a dining area. Outside the cottage is off road parking for two cars, a sheltered shared front courtyard with furniture and a designated play area for children (adult supervision required). Ideal for exploring the northern Dales, Foxholes is sure to appeal to the whole family.

Area
Set in the York Dales, the pretty Teesdale village of Staindrop has always been closely associated with the fortunes of nearby Raby Castle. This impressive building is open to the public and is one of the finest in England. Extended and modified over the centuries, the castle is medieval in origin and boasts a walled garden and 200-acre deer park. The village of Staindrop itself has many interesting shops, pubs and cafes, all set around its long village green. The popular market town of Barnard Castle is only five miles away and, in addition to it's famous fort, is home to the Bowes Museum and a wide selection of shops and tea-rooms. The area also offers many exceptional walking and cycling routes through the beautiful countryside.

Region
From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

Greeted on arrival by the owner who was very welcoming and friendly. The cottage was very cosy with a fantastic heating system and abundance of hot water which made for great power showers. Good base for touring the Durham area.

The accommodation was perfect for us and it was furnished to a very high standard. It is in the country but ideally placed to visit local sites and places of interest. When there was a small issue the owner responded immediately and was very helpful.

We chose Foxholes for the all on one level accommodation and the en-suite. The layout was great with the en-suite room at one side of accommodation and the bedroom with bathroom on the other side of the lounge. It was also good to be able to park close to the front door.

We were made to feel at home and it was lovely area, our dog felt at home too and the accommodation was ideal for my mother-in-law too as she isn't very good on her legs but she was in her own end of the accommodation but with easy reach if we were needed.

Foxholes is a spacious property with excellent facilities near many interesting places, but away from the hustle of nearby towns. It is not overlooked and is in a beautiful location.

The owners were friendly and made us all feel like we were family - nothing was too much trouble. It was home from home and set in a great place with wonderful views and places to visit. The kids loved being able to play safely in the court yard on the front, we enjoyed ourselves and liked it so much that we are looking at re-booking again next year. Would recommend it and have told family and friends.

Beautiful scenery quite close to property - this area of the country is really undersold. Very cosy and warm for our week.

Excellent location and a very impressive barn conversion. The property was top quality. We really liked the lay out of the property, a bedroom at each end allowed the two halves of our family their own privacy.

Foxholes is an ideal base for the Tees valley, Durham and the Lakes. The accommodation is first class for a 'get away from it all' holiday and the excellent amenities make it feel like a home from home. The cottage was very well heated with lots of lovely hot water and big enough for 6 people to all have their own space. The surrounding countryside absolutely beautiful!

The friendliness of the owners was excellent. We'd booked it especially for my parents, with my dad being unsteady on his feet, and the property did not disappoint.

The three properties were ideal for our family. They offered individual space and yet were accessible to each other. A good location in the country but lots to see and do in the area. A very enjoyable holiday. The welcome bottle of wine added a nice touch to the holiday.

Location was fantastic, loads to see and do. Beamish and Hartlepool Historic Quay are well worth a visit. The accommodation is located in an ideal area for children as there are no major roads running through. The owners are friendly and welcoming. We would definitely recommend Foxholes or any of the adjacent properties to family and friends. Well worth the visit and we have been twice so far.....

Surrounding area was very interesting. House was a very spacious and well appointed renovation. Very hot water on instant supply. Owners were very friendly. Negatives - the oven took a lot of understanding, as did the dishwasher, and the cow byre was too close. No smell inside the house but outside was quite often a bit smelly.
Mr Humphrey
