Fred's Cottage description

Holiday home
This 17th Century mid-terrace cottage is well situated in the large village of Briston, just four miles from the market town of Holt. Full of character, this property offers exposed oak beams, a fantastic inglenook fireplace in the sitting room and two en-suite bedrooms, providing a great base for anyone looking to explore this lovely area. The accommodation has been renovated to an exceptionally high standard to provide guests with a comfortable, cosy home from home. The village itself provides a good range of local amenities, whilst the Georgian town of Holt is close by for all your holiday essentials.

Situated in North Norfolk and offering a local store, a village post office, a good bakery and a superb butcher's shop, the large village of Briston also provides two pubs, a sports field and a sizeable village green. Situated in a central position, the village provides a good base for exploring the surrounding area and is close to both the historic Georgian town of Holt - with its tempting tea-rooms and interesting shops, and Blakeney coastal nature reserve which provides visitors with fantastic birdwatching opportunities. Also available nearby are several 'seal spotting' boat trips which take visitors up and down the coast, or alternatively, there is a wonderful beach at the seaside resort of Sheringham. The local countryside is wonderfully diverse and offers walkers and cyclists the chance to explore the many fascinating trails.

Picturesque rolling Fens, unspoilt beaches, and pretty waterways – East Anglia is a dream holiday destination. Norfolk offers beaches, saltmarshes and quaint villages whilst equally as charming are the coast and countryside of Suffolk.

Fred's Cottage was lovely, I particularly liked the layout of it with a good kitchen and lounge etc. Particularly liked that there were en suites for both bedrooms. It was local to pubs and shops with easy access to green space to walk the dog, I found it very relaxing.
Mr Spencer
August 2016
We had a fabulous holiday at Fred's cottage. Everything you could possibly want was in the cottage. It is in a lovely village and having the pub so near was a bonus, and it served very good food. Everything in the cottage was well looked after, the crockery was particularly lovely, and having the dishwasher was fantastic. Thank you for a lovely holiday.
Mrs Darby

This was our second visit to Fred's Cottage, and we enjoyed it just as much as the first. It has a very peaceful atmosphere and is also very comfortable. We felt very relaxed the moment we stepped inside, and again we took advantage of several meals at the pub opposite. The village of Briston is also very pleasant with good shopping facilities. We hope to return sometime.
Mrs Evans
May 2014
A good location and a comfortable and well equipped cottage. Excellent amenities close by, e.g. a pub opposite serving good value food, bakers, butchers, local shop and also the Norfolk Larder close by just off Mill Street which sells fish and lobster, prawns, dressed crab etc. Well recommended. Coastal walks and excellent beaches at Holkham and Burnam Overy Staithe just to mention a few. We would definitely like to return to this area.
Mrs Arnould
May 2014
Our second visit to Fred's Cottage was as enjoyable as the first. Briston is a very central location for North Norfolk and there are a great variety of things to do close by. There are some exceptionally nice gardens to visit, lots of local walking and excellent, local food. The cottage is comfortable, well equipped and suits our needs very well.
Mrs Winslow
March 2014
This was a very comfortable, well equipped cottage in an attractive village, with a good choice of shops and a public house serving good food directly opposite. It was a good place for my husband and I to meet up with our daughter, and we hope to do it all again sometime. We had a lovely time together.
May 2013
It was a very relaxed break away. The cottage was superb. It was very warm and cosy. We are looking forward to a return visit as soon as we can get a booking. The owners were excellent hosts, welcoming us with fresh flowers and wine. Even the weather for our last 4 days was superb with over 10 hours of sun each day.

July 2012
The location of the cottage in Briston was a good starting point for visiting places of interest around the North Norfolk coast. We like to wine and dine out a lot when on holiday and we had no trouble finding excellent pubs/restaurants that were not too many miles away from the cottage. The Norfolk Larder which is based in Briston is a good shop to try if you are looking for fresh, good quality fish.
Mrs Tarbox

Very quiet and relaxed. Just what we needed. The cottage was newly refurbished to a very high standard, was spotlessly clean and for this reason we felt very much at home.
July 2013
it was like home from home , the steep stair case was a bind for us oldies . Everything was perfect , If I had the money I'd but it . the shops were all so close such a small village with it's own Bakery and Butchers ..Brilliant
August 2014
Charming cottage in a pretty village, opposite a pub! The cottage was clean and well equipped with everything you need for a stay away. Great location for a easy drive to the costal towns. Highly recommend!
August 2016
The cottage was scrupulously clean and had every mod con. Though small it had everything you could wish for and more besides. The only negative is that there is nowhere you could walk to in the evenings but the bar opposite was excellent with good food options.
May 2012
Lovely cottage, couldn't fault it. Extremely well stocked kitchen, thoughtfully arranged by the owners. Everything we needed and more. The owners are not just out for making money from the property, they genuinely want people to enjoy their stay and feel at home. They also were friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them.

August 2016
We stayed here for a week and found it to be excellent, it was very clean and comfortable wilt lots of extras. Across the road was a lovely pub and local shops 10 mins walk up the road. We will definitely return to Fred's Cottage, it was a great week.
September 2011
A typical north norfolk cottage to relax and unwind and to have the perfect holiday in.

April 2012
To start with the property was described as with a garden&patio furniture to use, which was unusable, dirty&full of mold, the rear garden was like a jungle and un accessable. 3 bathrooms of which all 3 had showers which are tempermental with the water temperature going from hot to freezing cold to boiling without anything being adjusted so was unusable for the kids, radiators in the property had been set to zero aswell. In the fridge we found tomato sauce 2, yes 2 years out of date and also in the kitchen was a variety of spices upto 4 years!! yes 4 years out of date.In the storage cupboard there was a horrible smell of dogs and then anytime we opened this cupboard the smell lingerd. very unsatisfactory holiday cottage and very over priced wouldnt recommend a holiday at this property possibly the worst cottage we have ever stayed in.
Mrs Ann Tennant
January 2011
I have already completed a review. The booking was made in the name of my husband Richard Charles Tennant who died in June 2010. Because of the stress we had all been under, we decided to go ahead with the holiday to give us a break. My brother-in-law and wife accompanied me. It was just what we needed with no interuptions or upheavals.
August 2011
Having 3 bathrooms was a bonus. The cottage was very well equiped with all any family or friends would need. The only down side was the fact that the single beds were only 2ft 6inches wide and should really be 3feet wide. Having looked at the room 2 fullsize beds could go in the room if re arranged. However the whole experiance was very good.

December 2009
Fred's Cottage is excellently equipped with just about everything you could wish for, even down to a bath for the baby! The property is well furnished and comfortable and Briston is a very good central village to access the North Norfolk coast and the beautiful town of Holt, it also has its own bakers and butchers plus supermarkets - so everything on the door step. The only downside was the noise from the local pub at closing time, and the small garden. Would certainly stay here again.
