Gerlan description

Gerlan is a traditional, terraced Welsh cottage full of characterful features such as beams, exposed stone walls and a cosy wood burner to curl up in front of. Just 20 yards from the property you will find a covered seating area, ideal for enjoying a drink or barbecue whilst listening to the sound of the river below. The cottage, in the hamlet of Aberbanc, is just a few miles from the interesting market town of Newcastle Emlyn with a wide choice of shopping and eateries and is fast becoming the place to go for those browsing for antiques. Gerlan is also the perfect base for discovering all that the dramatic west Wales coastline has to offer and many wonderful cycle routes and walks are available, both coastal and inland including the coastal path walks. The pretty cove of Llangrannog with its beach side pubs, restaurants and cafes is worth discovering and within very easy reach is the picturesque coastal town of New Quay, once the home to Dylan Thomas and where you can wander round the quaint streets visiting the appealing shops. Here you will also find plenty of cafes and eateries, and sitting on the stone harbour wall with fish and chips or ice cream, looking out for the frequent visiting Bottlenose dolphins is a past-time not to be missed! Dolphin, wildlife watching and fishing boat trips are available in season.

The area has a wealth of attractions to offer all year round, including several sandy (and dog friendly!) beaches, and charming towns within easy reach, such as Aberaeron with its Georgian harbour and coloured houses, and a peaceful walk that leads to the National Trust property of Llanerchaeron, a rare example of an 18th Century Welsh gentry estate, Cardigan with its castle, and the interesting town of Aberystwyth with its 1¼ mile long promenade, and from where you can take the steam railway into the mountains to Devil’s Bridge. A half hour drive will bring you to the falls at Cenarth where you can watch the trout and salmon swim in the crystal clear waters or visit the Coracle Museum. After a busy day exploring the area, the local gastro pub is just a mile away and offers a welcoming retreat.
