Glen Cottage Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
Less than two miles from the Peaks village of Longnor on a working smallholding lies this detached stone-built cottage. Able to sleep a total of five people, this cottage is ideal for a group of friends or a family to use as a base whilst exploring all this magical area has to offer. With so much to see and do in the local area, everyone is sure to find something they'll enjoy amongst the Peak District hills.

Situated in beautiful countryside on the Staffordshire Moorlands is the charming Peak village of Longnor. Set with the River Dove to the east and the River Manifold to the west, this quaint little town makes an excellent centre for those wishing to tour the area. The cobbled market square is still very much a central part of the town and a scale of market charges is still posted on a board outside the market hall. Boasting several shops, a Post Office, tea shop, great craft centre and a beautiful church, the village is well served by its own local amenities, however, only slightly further a field are Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, the Spa town of Buxton, the attractive market town of Bakewell and Alton Towers theme park, making this wonderful, centrally located spot an ideal starting point when setting out to explore the region.

The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Electric storage heaters with electric woodburner-style stove. Electric cooker, microwave, fridge, TV, DVD player, CD player/cassette/radio. All fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Ample off road parking. Small patio area with garden furniture and BBQ. One well-behaved dog welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shops and pubs 2 miles.

The owners were very friendly. The cottage was warm very comfortable with plenty of room for the 3 adults 1 child in our party. There is a lovely boardwalk woodland trail which was brilliant for our 6 year old. He also loved making friends with the owners dogs, cats chickens. The location was good, just not enough time to see everything we wanted to in one week, so will just have to go back again sometime!

We have had a fantastic holiday from start to finish. The owners were amazing and helped us in finding the best places to visit during our stay. They were friendly and helpful and nothing was a problem which certainly made the holiday more enjoyable. When we return to the area again, we won't look any further than this cottage as I can't imagine anywhere being equal to it or better. I would recommend it to everyone and we are looking forward to returning.

October 2013
My sister, husband and I stayed at Glen Cottage with our 5 and 7 year old niece and nephew. Claire, the owner was great with lots of communication before we arrived as it is a little off the beaten track. The cottage was beautifully renovated and absolutely immaculate and plenty big enough for us all. The farm was great for the kids who had so much fun playing safely with the 2 dogs. It is a beautiful location in the countryside and while you need a car, it is close enough to Buxton, Alton Towers, Matlock and all the other fun things to do in the area. We were visiting from Canada so it was exactly what we needed to spend quality time with our family, do activities with the kids, as well find peace and quiet when we needed it. Would definitely recommend and would visit again when we are back in the UK. Thanks Claire and family you are wonderful hosts!
February 2011

Greeted when we arrived very welcoming. House very clean and easy to live in. Although the owners lived nearby they gave us plenty of space to come and go as we pleased This was a very remote cottage but easy to go from and to. We had no children with us but they would have enjoyed the farm yard animals. We have already given a review on this holiday in June

The cottage was in a nice quiet location outside Longnor, and had everything we required for our week's stay. The owners were very friendly and chatted to us on a regular basis. On the Monday of our visit, the TV programme 'Countryfile' to film about the farm which was most interesting. Julia Bradbury was the presenter and she was very friendly and spoke to us all and answered some questions we had about her exploits. All in all a very enjoyable stay,
Mrs Muller
May 2016
The hosts were excellent; very friendly, informative and welcoming. This is a lovely cottage that is well equipped. We would certainly recommend to friends and family. There was excellent walking in the area.
November 2010
On-line booking was so easy and when I rang the owner to arrange key collection we chatted like old friends. The cottage was well appointed, nicely decorated and very cosy. Our grandchildren loved their bedrooms and enjoyed going out to see the animals, especially the turkeys. It was quiet and safe for the grandchildren and all the tourist attractions were within reasonable driving distance. Supermarkets, too, were relatively close; just a few miles. Longnor has a small store and deli for emergencies. Everything about our stay was brilliant and the owner was so friendly and helpful. The only small quibble is that the raised kitchen area resulted in a few stumbles, but we would certainly choose to stay there again.
April 2010
