Granton Coach House Romantic Cottage description

Holiday home
This beautiful coach house has been tastefully restored and offers fabulous accommodation on the first floor of the house. It is decorated very simply and elegantly which show off the many original features to perfection throughout the property. The quality and attention to detail is obvious. The open plan living area has a high beamed ceiling, a woodburning stove and original wooden floors, and there is a fabulous veranda to sit out and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the woodland garden. The spacious bedroom has beams and other delightfully quirky features and the benefit of a luxurious en-suite shower room whilst the kitchen is bright, well equipped and has a contemporary feel. This property offers a charming holiday idyll, perfect for seeing this stunning area.

The charming village of Goodrich stands on the River Wye, in the village is Goodrich Castle a fine example of a 12th Century Marcher Castle. The term 'marcher' is derived from the Anglo-Saxon 'mearc,' meaning boundary. The village amenities include a store and a couple of pubs serving good food. The nearby town of Ross-on-Wye is a delight to visit, with its 17th Century Market Hall, riverside walks, and a variety of shops, and eateries. Cruises are available along the river, but for something a little different why not try a hot air balloon trip and see the world from a different perspective? Symonds Yat is only one and a half miles away, and the book town of Hay-on-Wye is always worth a visit.

Herefordshire offers visitors the chance to journey through lush green countryside, enjoying splendid black-and-white timbered villages, a magnificent cathedral city, a fairytale Georgian castle at Eastnor or books galore in famous Hay-on-Wye.

June 2015
Absolutely thrilled with this lovely Coach House, it had everything needed to make our stay perfect. Loved coming 'home' after a busy day sightseeing, it was so comfortable. We hardly ate out during our stay, as it was so easy to cook and enjoy our meals in the Coach House. Really enjoyed the view over the owner's garden, very pretty, and it was convenient for Ross, Hereford, Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds. Brilliant!
Mrs Polhill

Fantastic cottage, both in terms of location and quality of the accommodation. This is an ideal location for exploring the Wye Valley and Black Mountains, with many walks accessible from the cottage. Good pubs also within walking distance, and Goodrich Castle which is also very worthwhile visiting. The cottage is well furnished, and spacious for a couple staying here. It is both comfortable and well-equipped. We are planning to return.

First off, the most important thing for me is an excellent comfortable bed and a good nights sleep, and this one was spot on, excellent bed and very peaceful. Kitchen was top-notch and we enjoyed the lounge with wood-burner and bathroom was good too. Lovely veranda out front, great location. Lots of good walks and pubs nearby.

The cottage was well equipped and furnished to a high standard. Its location was perfect as a touring base for the Wye valley and into South Wales. Hereford, Tewkesbury, and Abergavenny are all within easy reach and are worth a visit, but there is stil plenty to see locally, Symonds Yat, Forest of Dean to name but two. The cottage had a nice shady garden and we enjoyed a couple of BBQs. A really good holiday.

A delightful cottage - ranks as one of the best we have stayed in. A perfect location for exploring the Wye valley, and so much valuable information about walks and the surrounding area in the cottage. A warm welcome from the owners. Not surprising to see that this cottage is always well booked up. We received a warm welcome at the Cross Keys Inn and the food was good.

It was so lovely and quiet that you could hear a pin drop at night and the black out blinds throughout the property was a great idea. The owners were so welcoming and we knew we could pop round to the house if we needed to ask any questions. This cottage suited us perfectly.

A relaxing week spent exploring the local area over Christmas (in the snow!). We would highly recommend Granton Coach House to anyone seeking a high standard of self catering accommodation situated in the country but close enough to the sights, villages, walking trails, cosy pubs and friendly locals! The owners are great hosts and we will definitely return to stay.

Most pleasant cottage we have stayed in, owners had thought of everything we could possibly need. Kitchen brilliant, bedroom very comfortable with lovely en-suite. Very pretty coach house close to owner's house in beautiful grounds, quiet and very relaxing, a perfect place to chill. Perfect place to visit Symonds Yat, Herefordshire, South Wales and Cotswolds. So nice to come back to after a long day visiting all our favourite places.

June 2015
Lovely accommodation, lovely owners next door. All very clean and comfortable, especially that bed. Visitor reviews in the Visitors Book are all very positive. Plenty of tips for local hostelries and restaurants. Within easy reach of many attractions and beautiful countryside. Very satisfied.
March 2016
Lovely small cottage. Well equipped with woodburning stove and very large comfortable bed. Great location in pretty village with two pubs within walking distance and a great base for exploring the Wye valley. Owners very throughtful with lots of recommendations about what to do and where to eat.

April 2016
This is a real home from home. We stay in a lot of holiday homes and this is one of the nicest we have ever been in. It was really clean and welcoming, with lots of light coming in. The bed was really comfortable and had nice quality bed linen. It was in a very quiet location with the owners nearby if there were any problems. It was very warm with the facility to override the heating if necessary. There is also a wood burner, but we never needed it. Also there was a plentiful supply of dishwasher tablets, toilet rolls etc., which often isn't the case! We were able to visit Ross on Wye, Monmouth, Gloucester and Hereford by bus. The local pub, the Hostelrie, was a short walk away which had excellent food. There was lots of walking right from the door, with walking books provided in the house. Symonds Yat Rock is a must to see the nesting peregrine falcons and the most fantastic views. All in all would highly recommend and would like to visit again.
March 2015
The coach house is in a beautiful setting, very peaceful and relaxing. It is well equipped and spotlessly clean. The bed is extremely comfortable with lovely linen. The en suite bathroom has a heated towel rail which is on all the time making it lovely and warm and a excellent power shower with instant hot water. The heating is user friendly and the property is always comfortable. The owners are not intrusive at all but should you need them they are on hand. The area is outstanding with many walks and easy access to Cardiff if you need some retail therapy . We would recommend this property to couples who would like a nice relaxing break away and would definitely return ourselves.
May 2015
We stayed at Granton Cochhouse for a week at the beginning of May. We regularly have self-catering breaks in the UK, some good, some not so good, but this one is exactly what it says on the tin. It has a welcoming verandah, handy for off-loading your muddy boots after a beautiful walk in the surrounding breath taking countryside. It's a lovely bright and comfortable accommodation with everything you might need for a week away. With a well equipped kitchen with everything you might need, pretty little bathroom with wonderfully powerful shower and a sumptuously clean and comfortable bed. It's set in a lovely village which is right on top of a footpath, the scenery is breath taking, with the views of surrounding Coppett Hill and the pretty old church mesmerising from the inside of the cottage. There is also a good pub within a short walk. Relaxation isn't hard to come by here and we will be back - Bliss, Kay & Mike Burridge.

October 2014
This was our second trip to this cottage, and like our trip in March we were extremely jammy with the weather so once again had a fantastic time enjoying the walks and scenery. The location of this cottage is excellent for us as there are two very good pubs in the village, the Cross Keys which was our favorite and we had an excellent meal there and also the Hostelrie which is very nice too which you can both walk to, and a little further out is the Inn on the Wye and Mill Race in Walford which are both well worth a visit. The other reason we loved the location is that there are plenty of walks right on your doorstep and we really enjoyed the views from Coppet Hill (which you can see from the cottage) and if you are up for a bit of a walk,Symonds Yat is approx 80 minute walk from the cottage. As for the cottage it is beautiful, a very peaceful location in the grounds of the owners house, it has a very well equipped Kitchen and we loved the big comfortable bed. The only issue we had was that the weather was so good we did not get to use the log burner but we certainly enjoyed that on our visit in March. The owners Liz and John are both lovely and helpful and a pleasure to deal with so we thoroughly recommend this both for the quality of the accommodation and the excellent and very pretty locale that it resides in. Just one point, if WiFi is important to you it is worth checking with the owner whether the fibre optic upgrade this is imminently due has sorted out the issue that you cannot really get Wifi inside the cottage as we had to use this in the owners garden.
August 2014
Just back from our visit to Goodrich and our stay at the Granton Coach House. A really tastefully refurbished property, retaining lots of character. I was particularly struck by the imaginative use of lighting. There is plenty of space and the kitchen very well equipped. (There is also a utility room). Spotlessly clean and very comfortable bed and sofa. We had fresh eggs left for us on arrival and other home grown produce during our stay which was much appreciated and just one of the little touches that makes this place so special. It's in a great location - easy driving for all Wye Valley sites and beyond, we didn't have to spend hours in the car getting from A to B which was nice. Two good pubs within walking distance but you will need a torch to see your way home. There is one at the property but not very bright so if you don't have a torch app on your phone I'd recommend just taking a torch along with you. Ye Hostelrie was our favourite pub - a short cut through the local church graveyard in daylight, up to you if you want to do that at night! The other pub, the Cross Keys seems to be more of a restaurant but good food and very popular. I'll review them separately if you want to check them out. Supermarkets in Ross on Wye and Monmouth depending on which way you are travelling from, for a shop before you arrive. We didn't need to use the local shop (opposite Ye Hostelrie) so can't comment on that. I would say that the only reason that I haven't given a full marks is because the DVD player packed up (we were planning a bit of a boxset binge for a couple of evenings!) However I understand that's been replaced so all should be fine now in that respect. All in all a super little find and will definitely be recommending to friends and family. Thanks to John and Liz for providing such a great place to stay.

October 2013
Granton Coach House was very well run and exceptionally clean. The area is quite expensive both drinking and eating out and as Lancastrians, we don't like skin on fried fish or bones.
June 2014
Lovely setting, very peaceful, loved listening to the birds in morning. Great pub within walking distance, lots of places nearby to visit.
April 2013
A really lovely cottage. Very well equipped and lots of useful information about the local area and in particular walking. So many cottages have loads of information that is out of date. Not this one. We actually did a number of the walks from the books provided. The cottage was lovely and warm and everything was presented thoughtfully. Definitely one of the best we have been to. We would definitely go there again. In fact tried to book for May but someone has beaten us to it.Also a warm welcome at the Cross Keys where the food was good and reasonably priced.
Mr Goddard
December 2015
We had a lovely week and the cottage was so nice, warm and beautifully furnished. If we do come back to the UK we would go again and certainly recommend it to friends.
Ms Richards
June 2016
Granton Coach House was a quiet, restful haven in a particularly beautiful part of the country.
March 2012
We received a warm and friendly welcome from the owners and were told immediately to treat the cottage as our home. The cottage was very clean, had a fantastic bed and wonderful kitchen facilities. The open fire was great on the cold nights and made the whole place cosy and warm.
Ian Scott
January 2012
I stayed here for a week in late November. The property was excellent and the owners were friendly and on hand to help us settle in. Goodrich is a lovely village and is ideally placed to visit some of the best parts of England and Wales, plus there is good walk within 2 minutes of the House. Would recommend the House whether you want an activity break or just to chill and relax.
August 2011
we had a wonderful busy but relaxing week, accommodation first class, walks from the door, easy to difficult, the only problem was deciding which bits to leave out. the whole area is beautiful, it was a delightful way to celebrate becoming a pensioner!
September 2010
Lovely place, very well equipped. Quiet and relaxing. Wifi was not good, we had to go outside the owners' house usually. We didn't meet the lady of the house , only the man a few times but that was no problem !
