Groveside Cottage is situated in Saltburn, a quaint seaside town located between Cleveland and the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, a great base for walkers as the Cleveland Way passes through Saltburn. Once a vibrant smugglers cove, it‘s now a more traditional seaside resort with a fantastic beach for surfers, dog walkers and families alike.
The last remaining iron pier in Yorkshire stretches out to sea, where you can stroll along and enjoy the stunning views down towards Whitby or north towards Redcar. Sit at the end of the pier to watch the daring surfers or just to enjoy an ice cream.
A charming feature is the Victorian Cliff Lift, with its beautiful stained glass windows. Although the trip is short, it’s the best and most rewarding way of getting from the beach to the town, and has taken many a passenger over the years. A ride on the lift gives you spectacular views along the rugged coastline and out to sea. In the town there are plenty of cafes, bars and bistros, as well as traditional pubs.
Travel down the coast and within a short drive you have the resorts of Staithes, Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay. Further down the coast are the larger resorts of Scarborough and Bridlington. Enjoy sandcastles, donkey rides and fish and chips. Visitors of all ages will find something to enjoy at Saltburn.
Experience the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway which goes from Whitby to Pickering through villages such as Grosmont and Goathland (aka Aidensfield in the TV series ‘Heartbeat’), these villages are also easily reached by car. On a smaller scale, there is Saltburn Miniature Railway which operates during the summer months and takes you through the Valley Gardens to the Italian Gardens, and a delightful tea shop. There is also a rally school locally with professional rally instructors to test your driving ability.
Groveside Cottage is tucked away in a quiet corner just set back from the clifftop road. All done to a very good standard, Groveside Cottage is an upside down house with the bedroom on the ground floor and the spacious kitchen, diner and lounge on the first floor. It is a great escape for couples to relax and enjoy Saltburn’s beautiful area.
With a lovely wood burner, it also makes it an ideal place for winter breaks, after those long bracing walks along the clifftops to come back and snuggle up in front of the fire. There is a private enclosed terrace area, which is perfect for the dog or to sit out and enjoy the sunshine.
