Hartswood West is one of two apartments situated above the swimming pool. The apartment is clean and comfortable and has everything you need. The double and twin beds are all very comfortable and we slept very well for the whole week, just what we needed. There are sloping ceilings but they didn't cause us a problem and my husband is 6ft 2. Access is via an outdoor staircase - it might be tricky with very young children, fine once they are safe on stairs.
The pool was a huge bonus, there are only three holiday rentals on site so it never gets busy. You just take the covers off whenever you want to use it and put them back if you're last out. The pool was lovely and warm and there is a jacuzzi which isn't too hot so my nine year old son could use it - his first ever jacuzzi, he loved it!
Location wise, Hartswood is off the A64 about ten minutes drive from Malton. There are supermarkets in Malton and a village shop a couple of minutes drive away just off the A64. There is some road noise when the windows are open but it's not too bad. There are goats and chickens in the field which children can have a look at. There is also a large patio and grassy area just outside the apartment, great for BBQs and for playing on. There is lots to see in the area within half an hour's drive. We visited Yorkshire Lavender, Castle Howard, Scarborough, Dalby Forest and Eden Camp as well as the tiny cinema at Malton.
The only down sides were: the apartment is very warm in summer due to the skylights and heated pool underneath, we slept with the windows open; the conservatory area in front of the pool was looking a little tired and in need of some tidying and sprucing up.
