Healer's Cottage Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
Healer's Cottage is a lovely holiday home on the outskirts of the rural village of Hoarwithy. This delightful and welcoming 17th century stone built detached barn conversion is set in the owners' 5 acre smallholding and boasts a lovely shared lawned garden and private patio with furniture, a peaceful spot in which to enjoy some al fresco dining, reached through French windows from the bedroom. The cottage offers an open plan living area including a well-equipped fitted kitchen, dining and sitting areas, and a warming wood burner. The garden affords gorgeous views over the Wye Valley and the fields of this area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Healer's Cottage is a wonderful holiday retreat for a romantic break.

The village is a place where you can truly get away from it all, but is also easily accessed from the M50. The rural beauty of the village has remained virtually unchanged for centuries, and the countryside all around with its rolling hills, lush pastures and woodland is gloriously unspoilt. Nestling on the banks of the River Wye, Hoarwithy is home to a beautiful Italianate church, a superb pub with a restaurant and wonderful walking opportunities on the doorstep. Picturesque Ross-on-Wye is close by, and if you venture a little further afield you will find the historic cathedral city of Hereford, the incredible Wye Gorge at Symonds Yat, the Forest of Dean, and the gateway to Wales, Monmouth.

Herefordshire offers visitors the chance to journey through lush green countryside, enjoying splendid black-and-white timbered villages, a magnificent cathedral city, a fairytale Georgian castle at Eastnor or books galore in famous Hay-on-Wye.

Oil central heating with woodburning stove in sitting room. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, TV, DVD. All fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Off road parking for 2 cars. Shared, lawned garden and private patio with garden furniture. Two well-behaved dogs welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shop 7 miles, pub 2.5 miles. Note: Unfortunately this property does not accept children due to the owner's free-roaming donkeys located within the grounds. This property is also unsuitable for infants. Note: The shower room has grab rails and a shower seat.

The cottage is set in quiet peaceful countryside and has everything you could possibly want. The only neighbours you have are the owners and the donkeys, our dogs fell in love with the donkeys. The cottage was so comfortable that on wet days we were quite happy to sit in, read our books and watch the wildlife. There are several local pubs that provide excellent food if you do not want cater for yourself. We cannot wait to return, it certainly was a healing time.
Mr Hobson
November 2015
Isolation, woodlands, wildlife and peace with wellies and walks on the doorstep. An essentially English experience with a frisson of adventure negotiating Herefordshire's highways and byways. Unbeatable English country life and folk, smiling faces and no road rage. Fantastic.
Mrs Welford

In a lovely location, right on the edge of a bluebell wood. There was plenty of space for our dog to run around. It was very peaceful and to have the company of 7 donkeys in the adjoining field was quite a treat.

The cottage was nicely situated in a quiet location and is down a long, narrow country road. The owner was helpful and friendly without being intrusive. The owner also has several donkeys on the property which were friendly and often came to say hello to us. The area has many places to see and Hereford is a few miles away.

This cottage is perfect if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of normal life. The location is excellent if you enjoy walking as there are lovely walks from the doorstep. The owner is very helpful if you need anything but leaves you in peace. We enjoyed meeting her seven donkeys and treating them to the odd carrot! Most pubs around the area are dog friendly so we were able to eat out a couple of times. A little bit of Heaven on Earth!

If you want a remote, peaceful location this is it. The cottage is comfortable and large enough for a couple with dogs, it is well equipped with all the basic requirements. The property is surrounded by a field with donkeys which is very nice, they are very friendly and we took a few bags of carrots with us. The owner was very pleasant and helpful, but respected our privacy which was perfect. The area is an ideal base for Wales and the Forest of Dean as well as nearby Ross-On-Wye and Hereford.
Mrs Lustig

Healers cottage is such a beautiful, peaceful place to spend a holiday. The setting is lovely with the owners six donkeys coming to the fence by the patio twice a day for their carrots. There are deer, woodpeckers, rabbits and lots of wildlife to enjoy. The walks are lovely as the cottage is surrounded by woods. The owner is such a lovely person who also has a beautiful Basset Izzy. It's definitely a cottage that one visit is not enough and if peace and quiet is what you want this is the place for you. Definitely deserves five stars.

The cottage had a real home-from-home feeling. The area in which it was set was particularly quiet and restful and, although there was rather heavy rain, it was still not too difficult to reach, even in a small saloon car. The owner welcomed us and then left us to do our own thing, which is what we appreciate.

This cottage is just the place to" recharge your batteries" and get away from it all. Built in the middle of Ballis Wood next to the owner's own property,it is perfect if you enjoy walking and enjoying the countryside. The owner is a very nice lady, very helpful if you need anything, but will leave you in peace. Her donkeys are lovely and will come to visit you daily especially if you happen to have some carrots! The Cottage is very well equipped and comfortable. The shower is excellent and there's plenty of hot water. Our dog had a lovely time walking through the woods. You do need a torch though, as it's very dark on those early morning and late night walkies! Ross on Wye is about 7 miles away and has a large Morrisons and will soon have an Aldi. We enjoyed the 3.5 mile John Kyrle walk which takes you along the river and through some of the town. You need a car of course as the cottage is quite remote, but it's a wonderful base to return to at the end of a busy day sightseeing. We were very sorry to leave and look forwards to our next visit.
Ms Gould
January 2007

The lady owner was very nice and friendly. The cottage was absolutely perfect if you like peace and quiet and isolation. The donkeys were friendly and loved to come and see us. Situated right in the woods with no other residence in sight except for the owner*s house. It was very comfortable. The only possible downside were the horseflies but to be expected as there were donkeys in the field.
December 2012
If you are looking for a place for relaxation and peace - this is it. Lovely cottage set in woodland away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Accommodation very spacious and full of character. Wonderful donkeys in the surrounding fields who were more than ready to be friendly, especially when there were carrots and apples on offer! Lots of relevant information available with suggestions for places to visit or to eat. Loved our stay and would thoroughly recommend to others.

Healers cotage is one of our favorite spots for holiday's The cottage is well equipt with interesting books There is a log fire with plenty of fuel making for a very cosy time Outside the cottage is the owners private woodland making the dogs stay also very enjoyable Locally there are several places to eat. Everything about the cottage is clean and welcoming, and finally the donkeys looking at you over the fence is quite delightful.

This was one of those special cottages that ticked all the boxes. Well furnished, everything there that you might need, warm, cosy, and picturesque. We will certainly return for another week of heaven. The area is excellent for walking, including on the property, where there is extensive woodland and path, with wide variety of animal life, to say nothing of the donkeys in the paddock itself. July 2010
An excellent cottage in a gorgeous location - with the added bonus of the donkeys! Perfect to "get away from it all".
December 2009
We had an excellent week at this cottage with a warm welcome from the owner and her delightful donkeys. The directions to the cottage need improvement but once found in its very isolated setting it was delightful. It was a good place from which to explore the area and certainly had all the right ingredients to make it a home from home holiday.
December 2009
On a last minuate decision to have a late holiday we choose this one,it was situated in a lovely quiet area the cottage itself was well equipted and mantained, near to Hereford, local pubs, restaurants, plenty of nearby walks and with the friendly neighbours of the donkeys who visited us every day we had a really enjoyable holiday. Our only gripe was the lane up to the cottage was very wet and muddy.
