Rossett is a pretty village that sits alongside the River Alyn. It plays host to a number of unusual and striking buildings that have made it a source of inspiration to painters and artists for many years. The Jacobean Trevalyn Hall is made up of drunken timbers that give it a pleasingly unsteady appearance, whilst the local Church calls the inhabitants using tubular bells designed in the 19th Century. There is a golf course available for enthusiasts, while those interested in nature might like to try and spot the abundant wildlife that has made the River Alyn its home. The River Alyn is also a great local fishing spot and plays host to a number of other pursuits such as kayaking and the occasional prospector looking for elusive Welsh gold. The village has a number of good restaurants, pubs and shops and there are more to be found further afield in the historic city of Chester. Chester plays host to a variety of other attractions, such as Chester Zoo and the notable Gateway Theatre.

Famous for its choirs, stunning mountain ranges and beautiful valleys, this wonderful country has something for everyone. From Snowdonia in North Wales to the Brecon Beacons and the Pembrokeshire Coast in the South.

It was lovely and huge, so there was plenty of space for the four adults, three-year old and baby. The area is very interesting and we visited Chester Zoo which is top standard and also the lovely N.T. house and wolf's den grounds at Erddig. It was only five miles away from the cottage and absolutely unique.

Hen Cottage was a spacious, immaculately clean accommodation. There were many practical and welcoming touches and the property boasts the additional interest of animals and a play area for children. Location was excellent for reaching many places of interest, details of which were available in the cottage. The owner was most helpful and made us feel welcome.

This is one of the best cottages we have visited over the years. We enjoyed being on a working farm and loved the walks right from the front door. The cottage is situated in the country side but so close to interesting towns and cities.

Hen Cottage met all the standards in the brochure. It's well equipped and is a 'home away from home'. The cottage is well located to visit both north Wales and Liverpool.

Good, clean and spacious property. Friendly people, games room, trampoline and play area for the family. Quiet and peaceful country location. Plenty to see and do in the area. Chester zoo was excellent plus the city of Chester itself and local attractions. Plenty of good eating establishments in the area. There are several castles and stately homes that can be visited within a reasonable range of miles.

This cottage was excellent just how it should be, clean, well equipped and well maintained. Everything was of a excellent quality, clearly the owners take pride in in the property. Children's play area was brilliant-top quality equipment as was the games room (for adults and for children) Thoroughly recommend for families.

We were greeted by our host, Bev, who showed us around and explained the workings of the cottage. Our visit, in February, was when the weather was particularly cold and we were pleased to find the heating had been on for some time before our arrival. The cottage is well furnished and we found it very comfortable. This is a working farm in a rural location and you need to be aware that the shop is not at the end of the driveway. That said there are lots of walks and the 'play area' is great. There are loads of places to visit in the area and it is an ideal touring centre, i.e. Chester, Liverpool, North Wales, etc. We loved it staying in Hen Cottage, the only 'gripe' are several low beams but after a couple of knocks you soon get used to them.
Mrs Shannon
