Hobson's Cottage Pet-Friendly Cottage description

Holiday home
Hobson's Cottage is a stone built semi detached cottage on the outskirts of the hamlet of Fremington, and within walking distance of the village of Reeth in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This ‘upside down' cottage has one double bedroom and one full size bunks on the ground floor, which means the cottage can sleep four people. The cottage also has a family bathroom and on the first floor a open plan living area with a kitchen, a dining and a sitting area. Outside, there is off road parking 50 yards from the cottage and a raised patio area with garden furniture. Hobson's Cottage is in a wonderful area and is perfect for families or couples.

Area
Situated at the southernmost point of Arkengarthdale is the pretty little Swaledale hamlet of Fremington. Set in a delightful area with magnificent countryside and spectacular views, this charming village is just a short walk from Grinton and Reeth – both of which offer good pubs and excellent places to eat. Originally a Saxon settlement, nearby Reeth became a centre for hand knitting and local lead mining duringthe 18th Century. Its houses and hotel, clustered around a large village green, make it one of the most popular Dales villages. The quaint town of Askrigg is also within easy driving distance and may be better known as ‘Darrowby', the setting for the television series, "All Creatures Great and Small". Hardraw Force, England's highest single drop waterfall is close by, as are the historic market towns of Richmond and Leyburn.

Region
From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

Amenities
Electric night storage heaters with small electric stove in sitting area. Electric cooker, microwave, fridge, automatic washer/dryer, TV, DVD, radio/CD/cassette player. All power inc. in rent. Bed linen inc. in rent. Off road parking 50 yards from property. Raised patio area with garden furniture. One well-behaved pet welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shop and pub 12 mins walk.

A very peaceful and relaxing environment in a lovely cosy little cottage.
Mrs Jaynes
August 2014
This was our third visit to this cottage because it is in a lovely position, within easy walking distance of Reeth and Grinton, where there are plenty of places to eat/drink. Especially liked the food at The Bridge pub at Grinton. Walks from the doorstep. Views of Reeth and surrounding countryside from the lounge. Loads of lovely place to drive to, e.g. The Buttertubs Pass, Tan Hill, over Grinton Moor to Leyburn, Hawes and Thwaite to name a few. Easy to get to Richmond for shopping. We really do love this homely cottage for the scope it gives you even if you are not a hardened walker.

The cottage has excellent views over the surrounding countryside and had everything needed for a relaxing break in the Yorkshire Dales. It was warm, cosy and comfortable. We will certainly be going back to this cottage.

Old fashioned English country life, so different from home. The cottage was cosy, and situated in one of the prettiest Dales: Swaledale!

Warm and cosy accommodation, well equipped property. Very peaceful and quiet position with lovely open views over surrounding countryside. Many walking opportunities straight from the door, local shops and pubs only 10-15 minutes walking distance. Reasonably priced for a weeks stay.

The cottage is quite small but that is more than made up for by the location, near to many facilities but surrounded by beautiful countryside.

May 2009
The whole peaceful holiday, I was totally chilled out by Sunday afternoon! Paid a visit to Sedbergh to visit the book shops there, what a lovely place! The sight of the new born lamb's frolicking in the field next to the cottage was fantastic. In all we had a wonderful time The short walk to Grinton and down by the side of the church along the river Swale and then into Reeth for a couple of pints and some good food left us feeling refreshed and invigorated. First time in the dales for us, certainly not the last though. Will be looking to book Hobson's cottage again.

Cottage is even nicer than previously due to the owners refurbishing the kitchen and bathroom. The patio area is a good addition, although we didn't get the benefit in February! The cottage is wonderfully situated for a walking holiday and Reeth is well catered for with shops and pubs.

March 2007
The cottage was very warm and cosy which was important as we had unseasonably cold weather! It is in a prime position for walking; and although in a quiet and peaceful location is within a short walk of Reeth centre where there are shops and pubs. We had everything we needed in the cottage. Overall the best thing was being able to literally put your boots on, go out of the front door and immediately be up in the hills without having to drive anywhere. We would definitely book again.

An excellent base for walking (despite the snow). Would like to return to complete longer walks in better weather. We saw an amazing range of birds, who were attracted to the feeder in the tree just outside the lounge window.

The setting of the cottage was superb, allowing easy access to walks straight from the cottage door. The house, although compact, was very well furnished and equipped, and suited our needs just fine - the owners had also included very nice extra touches such as leaving a selection of jams and toiletries for our use - and a very extensive and informative collection of local walking books.

A delightful cottage, warm, homely and beautifully decorated, with lovely bedding and curtains, and everything one could want for home comfort. There were clear and helpful notes on the property and the area. We were very pleased that the heaters were on, giving us a warm welcome on our arrival! The many extras such as maps, books, and videos, were all appreciated. We loved it! It's the perfect base for all your basics, great pubs and cafes. May 2005
Our second stay in Hobson's Cottage will definitely be followed by a third time and who knows............!

September 2005
The cottage was ideal for the two of us and everything was exactly as described and expected. The views out of the lounge window every morning were a real treat for us estate dwellers - fields and hills, animals and birds, just what the doctor ordered. Although we didn't make much use of them (as the weather was good and so we were out walking every day) there was an excellent provision of things to occupy a day indoors - books, games, videos, etc, - probably the best we've found anywhere.
Mr Ryan
July 2005

The converted barn was picturesque, warm and comfortable enough. The setting of the cottage, amongst the splendours of Swaledale, was wonderful. The quiet lane outside, led straight to a number of routes for walking in the fields and hill tops. The Reeth Show, in the fields next to the cottage, during the second week of our stay, was a very interesting bonus for us.
